Sorry that this is a repeat post but the original posting was put in a wrong thread.

Hi there,
Looks like there might be a few folks from out of town coming in this week.

John Luu (Tangent Sports in Edmonton) will be here this week and is looking to play some games. He will be bringing some Karakal racquets and accessories for folks interested in trying out the racquets.

I don't know how many folks are interested but I am thinking Thursday evening at Darryl's Clearone facility and then Saturday evening at the VRC (will need the members like Timeless, TTT, Gryp, Pete LSD, etc) to sign us in.

For Thursday (say 7pm to 10pm), depending on the number of people interested, we might have to book a couple of courts (thinking 6 or so per court so around $7.5/person). Please let me know as early as possible so that I can book the courts.

ouch, I am leaving Vancovuer to LA tomorrow early morning for 12 days.
I wish this comes early for me so I can try out the karakal racquets.
-_-||

but thankz WWC, thank for this info

Thanks for the intro WWC.

If you have any request for rackets, please let me know before I start to drive out to Vancouver. I know it's really short notice, but atleast I'm giving you guys a chance ;)
PM me before 3am Vancouver time. So besides the rackets, I'm bringing the Karakal PU Grips, which, in my opinion, is the best grip out there. If you want to try them out just show up or if you want to know what time I'm going to be where, just give Winex West Canada a shout. I'll be tagging along with him around from club to club. Thanks very much

not sure about Thursday night - how many are showing up? mrs. badrad and I may drop by if we can can get the time.

Saturday night sounds okay with me. I might be having a game earlier and will stick around for the BF'ers.

WWC, did you book the courts yet for Thur? I think there are only two courts available, the rest are utilized for drop-ins. I was there last week and it was extremely busy.

What? We ain't good enough for you? :D :D :D

So far, the count is 6 or 7 or 9 depending...

1) Myself
2) John Luu
3) Wood_22_Chuck
4) Gryp
5 and 6) 15Love and Mr. 15Love
7 and 8) Badrad and Mrs. Badrad

Have not heard from TTT, Seot, Timeless (& Mrs. Timeless), Pete LSD, Absinte, WilloW, etc.

UPDATE:
No courts are available at ClearOne for booking tomorrow so what I am suggesting that those who are interested come at 7pm and register for the drop in session ($6.00 and starts 7:30 pm to 10pm) so as to avoid not be able to get in (max of 32 over 4 courts). John and I will definitely be there so feel free to come.

We will also be at the VRC on Saturday evening (around 9-ish pm).

Time: Thursday, June 26th (7:30 pm to 10 pm)
Locnt: ClearOne Badminton (Richmond)
John Luu and I will be there around 7pm to sign in for the drop in sessions. Unfortunately the two courts available for booking are fully booked.

Time: Saturday, June 28th (9 pm onwards)
Locnt: Vancouver Racquets Club (Vancouver)
John and I will be there and would like to have a couple of the members sign us in.

BTW, John has asked me to let you all know that he will have Karakal latest models (2003 yet to be released) available for folks to try out at both locations as well Karakal grips.

I'm in for sure on Saturday. I'd really like to get a peek at VRC :)

So how do we sync at VRC? Is there a waiting area or something?

Marky
06-26-2003, 05:04 PM
WWC: I can sign one guest in. The problem is I can only make it, say 9:45 pm the earliest.

Wood_22: There is no waiting area or so. The door entrance to the courts is locked, so every member has a specially-coded-stainless-steel key to get in. You need to tell when you will exactly arrive at the door, so we can open up the door (from inside) for you.

badrad
06-26-2003, 05:50 PM
The waiting area is the covered awning outside the front door....:D

Press the door buzzer, I'm sure there will be a number of BF'ers floating around expecting fellow BF'ers to buzz in. If other members do open the door and ask you, you can just tell them that you are expected by another member. It is up to the generosity or stupidity of the member to allow you in or not... If it was me and I didn't know you, I wouldn't! Hahahahahah!

For you non-members - remember to bring your own feather shuttles. I'm sure you can buy some from WWC if you don't have any.

wood_22_chuck
06-26-2003, 06:04 PM
WWC,

Once you have a guest list for VRC (please add me :) ), let's try to sync up. I think it's better that we get signed in wholesale, i.e. all at once.

Or if you prefer, maybe we can PM you our cellphone # or something like that.

Winex West Can
06-26-2003, 06:29 PM
Okay, it sounded that today's meet will just be myself and John Luu and/or LoveJoy. We are planning to get to ClearOne by 7pm to sign in for the drop in session.

Saturday's meet at the VRC includes: NOTE:Adults has priority over juniors during the evening.
a) myself (non-member)
b) John Luu (non-member)
c) Wood_22_chuck (non-member)
d) Smashing Bird (non-member)
e) Badrad & Mrs. (members)
f) Marky (member)
g) 15Love & Mr. (members)
h) TTT (member)

I think we have enough members to sign in the non-members @$10.00/person. Let's schedule 9:30pm as the time to meet.

Have not heard from Timeless & Mrs. (members), WilloW (??), Seot (member), Pete LSD (member).

Any others? Absinthe? ChimpmunkBoy? Jay L? SChan? Dropsmash? WhiteNova? Kyoto_fukada87? Wonger47? JChen99? Traum? Grufey? Vicous Circle?

Guys, in case you think his forehand smash is weak.. I actually meant his backhand smash is very strong.. :)

Surprisingly, ClearOne wasn't that crowded at all. I dropped in but didn't play, cause I expected the drop-in to be full, and didn't bring my gear. I was there about 8:30 pm and the drop-in was 24 out of 32 ... so still 8 more spots available.

Looking forward to playing with you guys this Sat, and also meet Chi-Ho ...

Passed on the message to JChen99 about the meet, by the way.

I think by tonight we should do a final attendance check so we can make sure all the guests can get signed in. They are totally cracking down on the regulations lately and checking all guests.

The nights have been getting more busy at the club. Probably due to summer vacation and all the new summer members. Even at 11PM there are sometimes up to 5+ court waits on any given night. So it might be mad crazy tomorrow. I advise anyone planning on getting their money's worth of court time to plan to stay late... VERY late ;) :D.

It is a 24x7 facility. The question is whether we (the players) can stay up and play that late (being the "old" and non-crafty variety) :D :D

We should do a final tally and see how many non members we have and have a member buy the bulk guest passes (lower cost).

It is a 24hr facility. Hmmm... did I make it sound like it closes early? My bad if I did. VRC is a 24-7 never closing badminton facility. Everyone who turns out tomorrow is welcome to play out their entire 24 hour guest pass if you so wish (and can physically endure it). The latest (earliest?) I've played until is past 4AM hahaha.

Technically the guest is signed in until midnight and if they are staying later, they would have to pay another fee. It's not a 24 hour guest pass per se, the fee the pay is valid for the day they signed in and paid for.

As for the other VRC members on this forum let's be a bit more diligent about our club as well. Although most guests are fairly responsible and do not abuse the club rules, we do know that there are a few that do abuse the rules of guest priviledges - primarily 2 times per month, maximum of 12 times per year rule.

As a vrc club member, who have been frustrated with extremely long waits on certain evenings, as result of too many guests I certain will agree there are some things we should try to enforce. After all it is our club.... It's not a drop-in community center.

I think the limit is not more than 6 visits per year and not more twice a month.

Right now I have not heard from John Luu (he went up to Prince Rupert today and planned to be back tomorrow).

So... exactly who's showing up? As far as guest sign-in coverage, we have Badrad's family, TTT, Chi-Hong, Marky, and the Mrs. and I. Did I miss anyone? If I haven't, then that allows for 8 guests. If there are more than 8 guests I can probably find other friends that won't mind signing in a guest but no guarantees.

I was at the club last night and it was not very busy at all. So if all the Friday regulars decide to turn out tonight instead, boy it's going to be NUTS hehehehe :).

wood_22_chuck
06-28-2003, 06:22 PM

timeless
06-28-2003, 07:27 PM
I think I made a mistake when I counted 8 for the guest sign-in coverage. Badrad jr. is still a jr so I believe the club rules state juniors cannot sign in guests(?). So that brings the coverage back down to 7. Not that it really matters since I'm sure we can find other members to cover all guests if necessary.

I also wanted to stress that everyone have proper indoor court shoes. No dark marking soles are allowed. Basketball shoes or cross-trainers with coloured soles will most likely not be allowed. However, I believe, true indoor court shoes with coloured soles are allowed.

Also as a reminder that all guests must provide their own feather shuttles (you can purchase tubes of Winex shuttles from WWC if necessary). The club doesn't provide shuttles at all (I wish!). As a rule of thumb, all players bring out a shuttle for every game. At the end of the game, the remaining unused shuttles are randomly distributed. Or the foursome, can just remain together until all the shuttles are used up. It's up to you as long as everyone agrees.

See you all tonight! :)

Was nice to meet you Wood_22_Chuck :). Hopefully you'll have more energy to spare next time and get your money's worth. If you had stayed longer you could have seen Chi-Ho do his amazing rubber band smashes. I swear that guy is like a contortionist sometimes! :D

wood_22_chuck
06-29-2003, 10:34 PM
It's where he jumps off the ground, reach up and stretch REALLY high, with chest and torso thrust forward (wind-up) ... then EXPLODES with the racket and feet thrusted forward. If you "twang" a rubber band stretch between your index finger and thumb, that's what it sorta looks like ... only backwards.

Okay, if this is really confusing, I'll defer to timeless to explain it.

Hrmmm... I was actually referring to Chi-Ho's uncanny agility. His ability to totally contort his body to take tape-height flat drives going down his backhand alley with his forehand. What makes him look like a rubber band is that he can hit a drive down his forehand alley and then rubber banding his body to his backhand alley to hit another drive. Both with his forehand... it's really quite a sight :). His body goes totally horizontal to one side and then to the other in a flash. Wish I was that nimble!

His smashes in general do have rubber band like attributes though. To me his arm resembles someone holding one end of a rubber band while pulling the other back and then letting it snap forward. Resulting in a nice welt for anyone who doesn't have their guard up :).

Too bad can't play this Saturday. Hope to be able to make it next time.

Hi viver, yes, i'm still at it but only once a week in the summer. So, you are playing more often than me. There're just not as many club here as in vancouver and toronto. :( It is puzzling how vancouver having higher land prices have more badminton facilities than Calgary.

Hey Cooler,
Time to get your buddies together and set up a facility :D I thought that Kelvin was in the process of securing some warehouse space.

Surprise surprise . . . I actually played Chi Hong back in March. We need more BF meets like this one in the future.

Sorry this is out of the topic but was wondering if there are any open gyms that I can drop in to play a little pick up game during the 25th, 26th or 27th of July. Thanks for any info you can give.

I would say that you can try either Clearone or the VRC. I will be out of town during that period but BF regulars like Timeless, Pete LSD, etc. all play at the VRC. Put up a new thread for the period that you are interested in and see which folks are in town.

For Clearone, they have drop-in sessions every day except Wed. The cost is $6.00/session and try to wrangle games from the other drop-ins.
