The strings on my old Cab 8 are broken. Brought to a badminton shop, and they were like, you still wanna string this racquet? Basically they meant my racquet is crap, and no need to restring it. Well, I know that, but I love this racquet, it won many matches ;) . Although I still have other racquets available, I just love this one.
Anyway, they said they can't string the racquet coz it's too old, and the tension would break the frame. So I guess it's time for my Cab 8 to retire and buy new racquet(s).

I saw lotsa good deals online, such as online stores and, better yet, on eBay. Thing is, how would I know for sure that the racquets they sell is legit and not fake. People told me to watch out for racquets with CH marked on it.
I read there are about 10 differences between real and fake. So should I ask the seller 10 questions about the racquets before buying them?

Absinthe.

PS. I'm gonna bring my Cab 8 to other shops and see what are their opinions. :)

FYI, a friend of mine is still using his cab-8 and cab-9 ... and strung them at 22-23 with no problem at all.

Maybe ask for the serial #s, and also see whether the seller being able to provide u some close look pics (not the ones from Yonex site / catalog) of his racket(s).

Useful pics should have head (looking for MP bump, for example), shaft (close to cone aread) and cone for serial #, and butt cap.

Exactly...
The strings on my Cab 8 broke a few times already, and I always had it restrung with no problem. Dunno why this particular store doesn't want to do it. Probably they're afraid they might break the head frame, and I'd sue them :D .

That's why I'm gonna check out some other shops.

no use, 10 questions you'll get 10 lies.
why would they bother with sending pics of this and that for 1 sale?
There are plenty of s.......s to sell fakes to.

Why? because

1. they like you to buy a new racquet from them
2. poor stringing job distorts aluminium frame (i assumed u have the old version). The next stringers can't see the stress and strain that have be built up in the frame. Why take the blame for other stringers's fault if the last stringer breaks it. why subject yourself a lawsuit :p because of other stringer's fault?
3. strings last shorter with time, they don't like those cab8/9 owners coming back demanding a free restring job.

I was thinking of the same thing.
Imagine you're a seller, and a potential buyer asks you 10 questions about a racquet plus pictures.
If you're a good seller, you might want to do that, but if you sell fakes, you'd probably ignore this buyer and find other buyers.

Agree on that one. I knew that.

I was just kidding on the lawsuit thing :D. That's no big deal for me. If it's really distorted, I wouldn't care much. I know it's old.

I agreed on the $13 stringing labor, they already did half way when they told me that they were not gonna string it. They didn't charge me in the end. No harm done. I wasn't expecting a free stringing job though. Just want my racquet to be done, that's all.

Same here, bought a Ti-10 racket and told them i want it strung around 24 tension, they said Yonex manual recomends only 22. and so they brought out this waiver that i have to sign it case it broke they are not obligated to it.

Sounds like they've really screwed it up and looks really distorted, better to cut the loss now than break it and give you a new (or credits) one.

Yep, sounds like it. What was the tension that you asked the stringer to put on the racquet, Absinthe?

Don't know where you brought the racquet to but try Tad's and ask Gary to string it for you.

Okay, I would suggest Abbie's Sports on Main/33rd.

If you racquet wasn't severly deformed in the first place, they wouldn't have started to string the raquet. They must have realised something was going wrong after they reached the halfway point and decided not to continue.

Did the shop actually say the racquet was too old or did they say since it's old and has had many restrings, the frame is weakening?

how old is your cab 8? 20 years old? what colour is the cone? orange/yellow/green
or is it red/blue?

Yeah, went there twice, first to drop the racquet, second to pick up. Both time I saw him in the same Liverpool jersey.

He said the frame is weak, and too much tension would bend it.

Can't remember exactly how old is the racquet. Been using it for around 15 years, on and off.
The cone is grey colour.

There was a middle aged guy who said he was in the Taiwan national team a while back. He came to our gym with 3 Cabonex 8 rackets. He beated every body including our advanced players (using MP's) easily with his "craps". :(
