Wow, good showing by Malaysia in Men's friendlies. WCH sure dispatched Lee HI quickly. It seems Lee can only pull off great victories at certain times.

Korean's weakest point though, is probably their women's singles. They should have played Jae Youn Jun who (I think) is better, instead of Kim Kyeung Ran.

The local paper highlighted Wong Mew Choo's efforts against Kim Yeung-ran which is considered quite remarkable.

I have a feeling that Mew Choo is likely to go far if she keeps getting quality matches like this.

Yes, I think she is shaping up nicely. I have seen her play before, very good racquet skills and quite fast around the court.
However, like most Malaysian lady-players, she is quite small in size and probably not much power. But her skill makes up for it.

I recorded it from about 4.20pm to 6pm. And 6.20pm-7pm.

Anybody have the results for Leg 2 in Kota Bharu? Strange enough I didn't see it on the papers.

I watched the game yesterday on TV.

1 : 1st Doubles between Chan CM-Choong TF and Kim DM-Ha TK was pretty good although the Malaysians could not really match up to the class of the Koreans.

The encouraging part is to actually see Chan-Choong take the initiative to actually attack instead of being on the receiving end of all the Koreans could give them.

There's still defensive lapses as noticed on the second set when during a rally, both Malaysians were forced to the right side of their courts, opening up a large area for Ha TK to just drive it over. Maybe it's just that they seldom play together.

There had been a question to why Chan-Chew wasn't fielded together against the world no one pair. It could have been a golden opportunity for the Malaysian pair to learn some quality lessons from their world class opponents.

2: Roslin Hashim vs Shon Sheung-mo

Maybe because of watching the 1st doubles game I find this somewhat boring. I had no doubt that Roslin could beat Shon but his lapses of concentration during the final parts of the second set really got on my nerves. As modius had said, this is perfect example of how NOT to play badminton.

3: Malaysian Girls

What a pity really. I'm sure they gave their best to try to play their Korean counterparts but the sad thing is that they have already lost part of the game before it started. When Chan-Choong put up a fight to Kim-Ha, the crowd went 'woo' 'haa' 'haa' 'waa',

Where was that chant when the girls played? I didn't get to see WongMC play Ra KM but she might have had the chance to beat the Korean 3 out of 3 if only the crowd were behind her.

This is perhaps another reason why Malaysian women can't seem to do well enough against international opponents; their own countrymen and women simply don't care. Everybody had their eye fixed on seeing Ha TK whip the shuttle into Chan CM's face but nobody seem to care much when the girls played.

The usual $0.02 from the spectators will likely be like this "... haiya, Korea so strong one, where can they win? Don't need to play also know lar they will lose...".

*Sigh*

4: Wong Mew Choo

She beat Ra Kyeung-min twice and lost once. Does this mean anything? I haven't seen her play against the likes of Wang Chen or Gong Zi Chao but I must commend that she could only get better with more and more quality opponents to match wits and skills against.

The expected $0.02 from the typical ah beng or ah lian "... haiya.. Malaysia so hot... Korea come they feel tired mah... that's why she win lor... if not where got chance... "

Ra Kyung-min and Kim Yeung-ran are 2 different players.
Ra is a double specialists, Kim is the full time singles player.
Wong Mew Choo actually played Kim 3 times in this series (won the 1st two showdown, but lost the 3rd one in KL), instead of Ra.
The RTM commentator got it wrong too... ;)

The 1st doubles was actually the match of the day. IMHO, Chan-Choong is a better combination than Chan-Chew. Chew has the knack of making lots of unforced errors when it matters most, and he's not mentally strong enough to take on top Korean and Indonesian pairs.

The fact that Chan-Chew lost to the scratch pair of Kim DM-Lee DS in the 1st leg really irritates me. Despite having the upperhand (after 'injuring' Lee DS's nose or what-so-ever), the Malaysian duo failed to press on to win. Something wrong with their mental power.

It's quite a pity that Lee Tsuen Seng did not get the opportunity to play either of the top 2 Koreans (faced Korean junior in both occasions). Anyway, this is Misbun's prerogative...

I am still wondering about what makes Korean men double such powerful opponents that make them specialists at the game in comparison to many other countries in the world. Is it their training mentality, social norm or Korean ginseng?

He (Lee) had better do something about his mental discipline judging from the newspaper article. During major tournaments such the World Championships and AE, he'd be up against opponents who may not be better than him, but has superior mental control. There will be matches where he will be stretched to the limits and at the end of the day, whoever that could keep their mind focused the task best, will win.

Reminds me of people like Yang Yang and Hendrawan who have an almost super-ice mentality that is hard to break.

Park Sung-hwan is just 17? Hmm...

Lee TS is definitely the better player at the moment.
His main problem is still the inconsistency in his form.... he could beat the world no 1 today, but lose the world no 100 the next day.

Was quoted in Malaysian dailies that he has doubt in Misbun's training method before the Elite Challenge, which resulted in his poor performance. How true is this statement??:confused:

This appears to be Malaysia's best back-up pair around.

Malaysia MD head coach Yap Kim Hock made a critical decision for not fielding Chan/Chew and Lee/Choong head to head against Ha/Kim and Lee/???. Wasn't it the purpose of this friendly tune-up matches between the Koreans and the Malaysians, to guage the preparation of WC bound players in MS as well as MD?
The Koreans had certainly found out there are works need to be done on MS department but certainly not the Malaysian double players as Lee/Choong and Chan/Chew did not have chance to engage with the world #1.
Lets pray the Malaysians pairs do not meet the Koreans in early round and lose miserably or else coach Yap will be in deep **** and deservely so.
