I used to use the old MP-77 3G model until someone broke it.
So I bought a really cheap deal Mp-77 2003 4G model which is a lot lighter.
Now I can't smash as hard as I used to but net play is easier.
I prefer the Mp-100 series but they don't make it anymore :( Can't afford the Amrocs either.

It's the same with me here, my Cab 20 is kinda light, can't really smash. I guess, the only way to improve on that will be to train your technique and wrist strength.

As far as I can see it, the effects won't be so good as well, as I've seen a good player using a light racquet, his smashes much subdued.

Buy a new raccquet? I don't know about you, but I would learn to play two styles to use, depending on the type of racquet. That way my racquet don't go to waste and I get to learn more.

Thanks.

I've been using Ti-7 for 3 years, which is quite light. I haven't been able to generate power at first, but over time, my technique has improved and now I can do devasting smashes. I recommend you practice more.

with light rackets, i don't really find it a matter of smashing harder an issue...with really light rackets, such as karakal brand..i find that smashing "hard" is not an easy task to do no matter what wrist strength you haev. However, i believe with lighter rackets, the "faster" the smash is generated...which means in order to use the light racket, you haev to haev fast wrist in order to generate the fast smashes..

Don't mean to be funny but how do you smash?

If you do the full wind up technique and full swing then try the stick smash method, Slightly pan handle grip with no or little back swing.

If holding your racket upright at full stretch is 12.00, then your prep is 11.00 - 11.30 and more forearm power as opposed to the full swing and a lot of pronation. Early prep is the key to this one

I changed to the lightest of the Ti SP's and was shown this method, after spending time working with the different grip so that I didn't slice or knock the shuttle out it works fine and uses a lot less energy. Also its quite deceptive because the recket face is very open.

Also because the racket is lighter you should be able to swing it faster because you are using your forearm power to generate the speed of the rackethead giving a better smash.

You need to be more relax and swing faster in order to generate powerful smashes with light racquet. In fact, I smash more powerful with 3U MP90 than 2U MP90.

However, for extremely light racquet such as MP80 4U, it would be difficult.

Warm up before the initial play using tennis racquet to practice your wrist.
Or what my teammate did, warm up using two cheap heavy racquets.
Dun have to play with it, just slap, not swing, it in the air many times for a few minutes before playing.

it's not the racket that could help you generating more power ... it's your wrist power.

there are many factors which affect the power of your shot. racket, its string and tension, moreover your style too... :D .. so string your racket at required tension and start practicing...

in order to compensate for the lack of weight you need to increase your swing/wrist power.

Nothing to do with the racket. I use Karakal Ti-75 and can only think of a couple of players on the Uni circuit that were harder last year - and thats a pertty reasonable standard.

hmm this might be a bit odd..

but you can try adding some tape at the 9 and 3 o clock of your frame to add more weight...

remember only 3 and 9 o'clock

Why 3 and 9, not 12??
