Trying to find a good coach in the milton keynes area. If anyone has any experience of coaches near or in milton keynes in the uk I'd be very grateful to hear about it.

Thanks.

You've got to be kidding right? Milton Keynes is the home of the Badminton Association of England - it is FULL of badminton coaches.

Just call them up or go to baofe.co.uk (or is it .org?) and there is a long long list.

I know, I play at the National Badminton Centre. I have a mate who has a coach but he is always fully booked. And I have tried looking on the BAofE site but can't find the list you mentioned. I initially looked in the coaching section (seemed sensible) but it seemed to be geared towards encouraging people to become a coach.

I even mailed them (before my initial post on here) but haven't heard back.

So you train at the National badminton centre but do not have a coach?

Just ask around at the centre...

The BA of E have a block about returning e-mails

You need to phone them and ask them to fax you a list of coaches as per your financial requirements

By far your best bet for quality coaching is Manfred Tripp. He is a moody git but he's as good as they come. Just communicate to him through your training that you are willing to work hard and you will be in. PM me if you want more info.

Just to sort this out someone dug up this thread, it's an old one. I am now coached by Sara Sankey who I rate as first class.

Slanter - I was watching Mani play in a tournament yesterday. Are you coached by him?

Nah, but I've seen him work. He's good. But very grumpy.

My game standard is between beginner and intermediate (70% beginner and 30% intermediate). What's yours game standards jonno and batgirl? My fitness level is very poor and my knee problem really concerns me for the workshops. Anyway those problems won't stop me from enjoying the day :)

You can't find anywhere to stay in Littleport? Thats a bit of a worry, I haven't even looked yet. I take it the recommended places all booked up?

What's yours game standards jonno and batgirl? I used to play county juniors, now just for the university. I'm looking forward to going as well, it'll make a change from work! :D

I fall somewhere around intermediate, I guess ... (probably somewhere below!). My footwork isn't what it used to be and I could really use some serious work on my clears, and backhand. But if enthusiasm counts for anything ... :D

Oh, that's pretty rough! I hope everyone finds something. Ely should be easier: Littleport is quite small I guess.

Hi Guys

It seems like a few of you attending the LIBA Badminton workshops
starting this weekend are having some problems finding somewhere to stay.

Well, I guess Littleport is not called Little Port for nothing :)

Try doing a search for B&Bs in Ely. It's not too far away. Also, if you want to try a search for B&Bs in Mildenhall I can give you a lift ( or you can follow me if you are driving ) to the Littleport Sports Centre.

In any event email me if you are stuck. We can sort something out.

How did todays course go?
Just got back from Day Two of the LIBA Badminton Workshops. You will be pleased to learn that all the Forum members played very well and trained very hard! Yesterday Lee Jae Bok challenged Sunny to play a rally of five shots with him. If Sunny can keep in the rally for five shots he wins Lee Jae Bok's favourite racket.

Sunny did the workshop today and is still using his own racket. He He :p

Lee Jae Bok has too much deception.

Batgirl was partnered with Young Sook Lee ( Ex korean National Ladies Champion ) in a mini tournament. Batgirl was outstanding.

Today the workshop concentrated on singles tactics. We also did footwork drills and shot selection and technique. We had a slightly higher level of player on the course today so the physical work was harder.

I am now going for a little rest :)

How did todays course go?

:) Wow, the last two days have been quite amazing. The workshops were excellent, very well organised and run. I was certainly challenged, both in terms of fitness level (hmm) and mentally.

The standard and intensity definitely increased on the second day, and having deconstructed various parts of my "game" over the weekend, I did have a couple of demotivated moments at my resulting lack of skill. But I know that it's important to take a few steps backwards sometimes in order to advance, and I know that if I can keep using and developing the concepts and skills of the last couple of days then I should be a much stronger player at the end of it. Phew!

I highly recommend the workshops though!

Batgirl was partnered with Young Sook Lee ( Ex korean National Ladies Champion ) in a mini tournament. Batgirl was outstanding.
Thanks, Skates. I think you're far far too kind! It was amazing to have the chance to play with Young Sook though. Made me feel truly humble! Thanks, Skates, for helping to organise the workshops in our corner of the country.

Sunny, I hope that day three is going well...

I remember when i done my course (Skates can back me up here), it was a week and involved absolutely everything, including fitness and then endurance running right after a tournament.

Once we had finished the days training, i would go home and have a shower to find that on EVERY single toe i had a bit of skin coming off where the training was so tough (and they were nice showers too!! I think skates stayed at a B&B or was that James who done that?)

Anyway, once we done that, we went for our dinner sometimes with Lee, sometimes not and then after that straight to the bar till night time. Lee would even come with us and socialise, and yes he beat me at pool im ashamed to say.

If you really want to make the most of these courses, they are the best things to do. I done it and it was probably the best 'holiday' so far. Like i say skates can back me up here, and we definately all need to meet up as a ''reunion'' :)

No comment :o

The thing was, it was a difficult pot on the black and we were playing for a pair of socks (!!), and i managed to get a nice angle, but it rattled in the jaws and sat nicely for Lee, so he managed to win (and beat me at an arm wrestle too!), I got some pics from the course i may put in...

Unfortunately i didnt manage to play Skates, i'm sure he would have beat me tho!

Of course, Lee has his own branded equipment so anything we done it was to win a pair of socks, alot cheaper than a racket i spose!!

Batgirl,

Day three went well and myself and richard won a T-Shirt in a mini tournament. I managed to attend fourth day as well and it was good fun. Fourth day was even harder and we learned deception. But myself and Young sook lost the mini tournament to richard and jonno. :(

I was gutted because I let down legendary Young Suk. She took it easily but after three days I still couldn't get over it. I hope I get a chance to play with her again and we will try to beat richard and jonno.

I heared there is another workshop in cambridge end of this month and I will be attending that too. :D

oh yesss. It is very very hard. On sunday after a very good lunch we had 30 mins of real hard warm-up. Simon Archer mentioned in a video... "You have got to be prepared for very hard physical training when you get onto the court for training with Lee Jae Bok" :)

Hi Sunny - I've recvered, it was only a bit of cramp.

Not sure if I'll be able to make the High Wycombe sessions. I'm definately going to the Wigan ones though.

My lunges aren't that good. Maybe it's just 'cos I'm short so I have to stretch further which makes them appear better than they are! ;)

Hiya Tomsk, when is the wigan one? how much does it cost? do you know if there are still spaces? team trials are coming up in my local league and i could do with some intensive work after spending all summer getting fitter..

I would greatly appreciate any information

Also - do you play for a club in the MDBL? i'm looking for a club to play for, but don't really know the standard and would like to come to a club with a big membership.

Cheers,

After that I'm hoping there will be a contingent of LJB workshop players going to the Dutchy of Cornwall in September. :D

So Sunny, Skates, Batgirl, Jonno and Mr Starface get that training started...I think Matt might have the slight edge......only slight mind :D

I really need to get fit. Since the last workshop at littleport I haven't played or practised anything that lee teached us. I'm back to square one and need to start all over again next week in High Wycombe.

me(sunny), skates and matt have plans for Cornwall but don't know about Jonno and Batgirl. I haven't spoke with richard, another LJB student about Cornwall. He may be interested as well. It will be really nice to have BFers and LJB's students getting together in Cornwall.

How about you dill? have you got any plans for cornwall? go on mate give it a shot. It will be fun :)

In other words I'll probably only get 2 games, I'll probably play singles on the Saturday and then play in the plate event so 2 games is about my limit. :(

I'm still trying to con **cough cough** persuade someone to play in the doubles so I can make a weekend of it.

Dill, I was planning to put on that hitting display. I will play singles on saturday and then play the plate event. A total of 2 games. If we get to play against each other in the singles then it will be more then 2 games for you mate 'cos I don't think I can't get past the first round in the main and plate event but I'm planning to give my best though. :)

Highly unlikely Sunny, if you are not known then you are usually drawn against the seeded players :( There's more of a chance one of us would be getting drawn against the no 1.

There is little or no chance of being drawn against anyone who is of the same standard, thats the thing I hate about actual knock out competitions, they are very one sided until you are good enough to get to the latter stages.

I played my first and last as an 18 year old when I was drawn against Anthony Clark in the first round of one and was whitewashed 15-2, 15-2.

me(sunny), skates and matt have plans for Cornwall but don't know about Jonno and Batgirl. Oh, I hadn't heard anything about the Duchy of Cornwall. It sounds very daunting to me though - I've never played on a circuit and my standard would be way too low!

I have been playing badminton feverishly since the Littleport workshops though, and trying hard to apply some of the things that LJB showed us, but I think it's going to be a long process! I need to improve my fitness as well, sunny!

I don't think I can make either High Wycombe weekends, sadly, due to prior commitments, but I'm trying to rearrange what I can, and still really hope to get to *something* before LJB returns to Korea! I'll be very envious of you all next weekend if I can't join you... http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/images/smilies/frown.gif
