The draw is on worldbadminton.net

Not many big names though...

Well, except girls like Dai Yun and Zeng Yaqiong of course! :)

ah thanks.

and of course Mr. and Mrs. Gunawan.

that's the smallest WD draw in any star tournament i have seen.

i think the small draw has to do with the fact that we had 3 back-to-back 4+ star tournament going on in another continent. last year's USOpen was graced by PeterG and PeterR who use used the tournament as their recovery tournament. but this year we are mainly seeing retirees.

Did I read the title correctly?

The only player I can really identify with is Tony Gunawan.

I know this is off-topic, but I think Deyana Lomban is living in Indonesia. She and Rosie Riani were signed up for Houston Open (heaven only knows why) back in April, but didn't make it, supposedly because of SARS and inability to obtain a visa in time. This is only speculation, but I might know more after US Open is concluded.

Well, maybe the 'strong' competition of the US open should be read as 'for a 1* tournament'... Gunawan should be able to win the doubles, don't you think?

I'll be at the US Open tomorow. Watching that is, not playing :). U.S is so weak in badminton these days. I barely hear anything related to badminton. I thought Kevin Han was a badminton god.....so little i have known. 1* tournement....Pssssh! When will U.S reaches to a 6* tournement? oh i know, when i reach 65. That's when i'll retire then take my retirement money and open a 6* tournement. Join me?

Won't have to wait that long. In 2005 the World Champs are to be staged in LA, USA. That will be a 7 star tournament;)

Then again, perhaps you are already 64 years old! in which in case you will be correct.

US Open used to be a 5* before the Asian crisis I think...
(then they lost their sponsors)

Anybody has confirmation?

I wonder who pays for Dai Yun and Zeng Yaqiong's travel expensive because they are no longer in the national team. Probably the winner's money will only barely cover it. But in case they lost in early round accidentally, .....

retired player may still have sponsors. i remember Victor started sponsoring Sun Jun after his retirement from the national team. even without sponsor, it may not be a bad thing to be able to come to the US, play some baddy, and then do some sightseeing.

Exactly like I was expected. ONE BORING DAY!
Four of my friends were playing the preliminary round so i was there to support them but they didnt make it.

IWATA Yoshiko and TAI Miyuki were there practicing. Nothing big.
I was surprise to see so many Koreans there. A whole team of JP Junior nationals? I think they took all the preliminary spaces.

Did i say it was boring?

What do you think are the main reasons?

shawntn,

i'd be interested in the some of the results. who made it past the qualifying rounds? of the US players who were in the those rounds, which ones made it?

just wondering because my friend is also playing but to avoid roaming charges she has turned off her cell phone.

Isn't there any web site giving the US open results??

The US didn't make it to any of the rounds for the matches i have wached.

I am sorry guys/gals, i don't have any more update to the tourneyment. I didn't think it was worth to mention or watch. I should of taken the draw of those made it and those weren't. I have watch all the preliminary matches but i couldn't remember it all. The Koreans were playing superb badminton. They took all the spaces. Indo took the MD i think. Koreans had all the rest. They played very arrogant badminton.

I think the only reason my friends lost their matches was because they were so nervous playing the US open. I have learned a lesson though, to stay calm at all times.

If i have any updates i'll be posting.

Part of the tour for them after competing successfully in the Canadian Open. These guys/gals are probably the future of the Korean National team.

Deyana Lomban and Mona Santoso lost in a walkover in the first round. Did they fail to show up?

Zeng Yaqiong already lost in the 2nd round.

Dai Yun met Jennifer Coleman (US) in 3rd. The result seems like a one sided match, but the site did not show who's the winner.

I have complete videos of all the final matches. I'll have them burned onto DVD soon. The men's singles and doubles were definately the most exciting.
