They have the same moustache because they are blood brothers... furthermore its a trend that time in their family ... except the women. hehehe.. I don't think we will have any family badminton players as successful as them in the near future. The nearest is Hashim Brothers. But they are only 2.

Surely, this family is a "legendary" family in this sports.
Can't think too many cases ever in sports, maybe Sutter (not sure about the spell) brothers in Hockey?
Maybe someone from the forum want all their kids to be famous badminton players in the future. :)

Wow, all of the brothers were amazing badminton players. their parents must of brought them up well!!!!!
Yup , you imagine that they have a badminton court in their backyard when they are little kids. Its like the states...Bballers like MJ had basketball backboard and rim in his backyard when he was a kid. Nothing else but badminton for Sideks.

The pic brings back memories. I remember watching the live broadcast of Malaysia winning the Thomas Cup :)
Those were the days.. i think there is no badminton family that matches the Sideks so far. The only that i can this of is the Hashims.

Yes indeed, interesting pics of the Sidek brothers of younger days.
I recall seeing and chatting with Rashid during the Commonwealth Games '94 held in Victoria, BC. I still have the pictures I took of him and others in the locker room. That year, he captured the Mens Singles Gold medal very easily and no one was even close as the games were restricted to only athletes belonging to the British Commonwealth countires. Ah yes, the memories... :)

There are quite a lot like the 2 McEnroe brothers (tennis), 3 Stoudemire brothers (basketball), 3 Maleeva sisters (tennis) , ... But have 5 all in the world class level, that's very odd. We will have to wait to see the Hashims brothers can match the Sideks' success.

I heard that there is no wind in most places in Malaysia in the afternoon. So no indoor courts are needed. Just set up the net in the afternoon and play. Is that true?

It really depends where the court is setuped. Sometimes got wind , sometimes no wind. But dont expect to get quality games in these open area courts. More for recreational purposes.
Rahman Sidek is currently helping out in the Nusa Mahsuri Stable.

I can only recognize Misbun, Rashid, Razif and Jailani. I didnt even know there was another Sidek brother.
Still remembered when I was still a young kid, watching the several exciting encounters between Team Malaysia and Team Indonesia in the Thomas Cup. Team Indonesia lost most of the the times in those days....Rashid was the hero in one of the encounter.

Agree with Ants, outdoor badminton is for recreational. I played outdoor badminton growing up in MAS, not that I am any bloody good, and indoor courts are few and costs $ to book, cannot afford during my childhood in MAS. Outdoor courts are hard concrete, not the hardwood with support these players are playing now. Playing on concrete floor, you can forget about doing LD jump smash...hahaha!!:D

i had the chance of meeting the sidek brothers from the time i spent in the KLBA stadium in Cheras. My most poignant memory was meeting the infamous Misbun Sidek, I shook his hand and I remembered how small mine was.
Those were the days. Many happy memories and meeting so many BAM players at that time and after that I decided to follow football hahaha

But the achievement from Roslin & Hafiz is far more behind either Rashid or Misbun in their contemporary times, plus Roslin is almost at the end of his career now. The coming WC08 at KL could be his final chance to make himself an important part of Malaysian History. His younger brother could have 2 or more years though.
Anyway, is the youngest Sidek brother, Sharizan a potential player for the nation? Imagine he will train under Misbun, Rashid since young.

First time I noticed the Sidek brothers was in the World Championships in Jakarta 1980. While all the MAS senior players bit the dust early, in the Men's Doubles, Razif Sidek and Ong Beng Teong reached the q-finals and Misbun/Jalani the semis, losing to DEN pair (Flemming Delfs and partner, forgot his name) and eventual champions Ade Candra/Christian Hadinata respectively.
By end of the year, Misbun concentrated on MS only, and I saw him in a friendly match against Prakash Padukone (1980 All-England winner). Misbun won 8-15, 15-2, 18-14 (after being 0-9 down in 3rd game). The game was uneven, partly due to the ferocious draft inside Stadium Negara.
Yes, they were world class and were competitive, but had they had better coaching (BAM only employed Chinese coaches in late-80s), they could have done much better.

Maybe Dato Sidek has a 4th one too, as malay custom allows 4 wives..except the agong (king) could only have one I think, pity the poor guy. Anyway Dato Sidek is a busy fella, real real busy, no kidding...maybe he got his Datuk title for being so busy producing great badders for the country...!!!:D

I would hold back the word legend and not use it so sparringly. In my books, Razif and Jalani are decent but certainly not legends material.
The real legends are Tan Yee Khan and Ng Boon Bee

Interesting man, Ng Boon Bee. Represented Malaysia in soccer and badminton.
I've never seen a man so short jump so high ....... :D I'd say he's the pioneer of the jumping smash from baseline. Best rotation when he was at the back and Tan was in front, the opponents were confused until they saw Ng jump ......

The Sideks are so popular until there is a comic made specially for them titled 'anak-anak sidek'. perhaps that's the first comic based on badminton.
