Hi all,
the much needed and anticipated update to the BadmintonCentral review section is now online!
you can go to www.badmintonreview.com
it uses a completely new software than before and it will certainly make the review section much much better.
i have migrated the old reviews and i have tried to trim away the irrelevant reviews. there bound to be a few that i missed, please let me know by PM'ing me.
there are still a bit of work to be done so it is not perfect. let me know if you run into any bugs...
and if you have suggestions on more products to be added, please let me know too.
other 10-03-2003, 03:27 AM excellent:D :D
oh. i forgot to say.
badmintonreview.com and badmintonforum.com shares the same username/password database. so you use your BF username and password to log in.
enjoy!
Carbonexer 10-03-2003, 04:24 AM Cool.........
Things are just getting better here but I still hope that the home page of badmintoncentral.com could be better improved by changing the photos to the more recent ones.
wilfredlgf 10-03-2003, 06:54 AM Great to have it segmented like that. Love it! But the danger here is having the review part become a 'chat thread', if u know what i mean.
"You go tell Alex, that if we beat them, I'll really luv it, luv it!!"
LazyBuddy 10-03-2003, 07:05 AM Great work!
Maybe more models in "SOTX" section? Woven 4A + STB 8080+ are not listed...
I know, I know, not too many ppl using them yet... but still... :D
Well, this time it's moderated!
Yee hah, the update looks awesome!!!
And it's faster!!
crazy_smasher 10-03-2003, 07:27 AM Hi,
Badmintonreview.com looks great!!!!!!!!!
Badmintoncentral reviews were not very updated , by putting the reviews in Badmintonreview, it is clearer for someone to zoom to one particular item review.
Anyone who already made a valuable review on an item at some time in the badmintonforum can copy and paste it into the badmintonreview section with some minor retouching without retyping the personal review all over again. What do u think?:D
BobbyGeneric 10-03-2003, 08:22 AM i think everyone agrees, badmintonreview.com is a great idea! keep up the great work! thanks for putting in so much time to making BF/BC/BR what it is today
bluejeff 10-03-2003, 10:34 AM very nice, and it's more organized than before !!
Rohly 10-03-2003, 11:01 AM Great idea!! Its also very organised which is good!

bluejeff, is it because color shade is now blue?:p
so guys. don't be shy now. you asked for a better review section. now type in the reviews. ;)
Traum 10-03-2003, 01:02 PM Hey Kwun. Awesome work with BadmintonReview.com!!!
Looking through the site, I am wondering how we can add a review for a product that isn't already listed in the site. For example, the Gosen strings that are listed there are somewhat out-dated. I've recently tried a whole bunch of their newer strings, so I'm wondering how I can add a review for that. But it doesn't look like there are any links or buttons I can press to add a new item for review.
Please Help?
-Rick
p.s. Hmm... maybe someone will add a review or two about Pointfore racquets? :D
LazyBuddy 10-03-2003, 01:50 PM Kwun,
Can u add "Babolat" in "racket" section, too? I remember there were several long threads about babolat satelite series.
bigredlemon 10-03-2003, 01:52 PM what exactly are migrated products?

those are the products migrated from the old review section and yet to be sorted into the new sections.
bigredlemon 10-03-2003, 04:22 PM shouldn't it be migrating products?
1. migrated from old review to new review.
2. migrating from temporary holding location to permanent holding location.
take your pick. :)
bigredlemon 10-03-2003, 05:08 PM I would have gone with "unsorted." That's what most hotline and ftp servers use.

no worries, I have a lot of info to share as I've tried many of the products in there.:D I think i've already typed up about 10 reviews in the last 20-30 mins.
Great job kwun and team, nicely organized and many thanks
Cheung 10-03-2003, 06:21 PM And, guys, let's keep to good quality reviews - negative and positive aspects of equipment.
BFer's demanded it, it's up to forum users to increase the quality and therefore, its use:)
Hey, BRL, given your penchant for details, we are expecting great things from you on the reviews.;) :p :D hahaha.
Cruxradio 10-04-2003, 10:54 AM Please add Black Knight racquets to the review section. They are the most popular racquet in Canada along with Yonex so they are very popular. Maybe just lisiting the 1000 series 800 series and 700 series from www.blackknight.ca
Thanks
bigredlemon 10-04-2003, 11:10 AM don't forget 900 series and 2000 series! (http://blackknight.ca/eng/badminton.htm)
btw, when did 1000s come out?
Traum 10-04-2003, 07:23 PM Hey Kwun. Would you please add an entry in the strings section for Gosen's BioGut Bio Roots 68/70 (BS-807 / BS-808), Roots Aermet (BS-310), GS-80 (BS-320), and Hy Sheep Super Micro (BS-210)? They are some of the current strings from Gosen. I promise I'll write a review for each of these strings if an entry is added in BadmintonReview.

They should have 1000 its right after 900! - only had a couple of hours sleep when I posted that.
ok. i added the 800/900/2000 series from Blackknight. let me know if the other series are worth uploading..
bigredlemon 10-05-2003, 02:57 PM I'd also add
BK733 Aero Pro Ti version 2. No other racquet like it because it's cone is about an inch higher and thus has a short shaft but normal length racquet. Very powerful yet quick. If you hold it at the cone, you can push backward on the pinky and ring finger while psuhing forward with the thumb to get an insanly powerful drive. First time i've tried that I shot it way out of court--it was like a horizontal smash with no windup! The short shaft also makes the racquet feel fairly stiff. It's a great all-round racquet I wouldn't be afaird of using as my main in a torunament and inexpensive so that i won't be too upset if i break them all (which won't happen since it's near indestructible.) Comes with TUF-GRIP (awful) and factory strings (awful.)
Bk703 Carbo Knight. A cheap all graphite racquet. That's all i know. Seems to be popular for beginners given the attractive price.
ok. i added the Blackknight 700 series.
Pecheur 10-06-2003, 05:56 PM So do you intend to populate all these reviews or are you just going to keep bugging poor old kwun to make new sections? ;)
Winex West Can 10-06-2003, 07:11 PM Wondered if there would be enough interest for reviews of stringing machines. I know that there are sites which contains reviews of stringing machines but I am thinking more along getting reviews from badminton stringers (not tennis stringers).
Also, you might want to add the SOTX STB-8080+ to the list along with Winex Mighty Muscle 100, Mighty Muscle 90 (reviews are located in the migrated products under Winex Upside Down) and the Winex Ti Swing Power.

Wow...
Are u trying to create these for my "private" sections? Especially 8080+? :D
Oh, please add "Babolat Satelite series", too.

(All 800 series are defacto discontinued so far as i know with the exception of the new Be racquet.)
grissom 10-06-2003, 11:42 PM kudos!
Sliced Drop 10-07-2003, 09:49 PM Great!
Can we also have a Gosen shuttle section and a Karakal Accessory section please.
Traum 10-07-2003, 11:03 PM Hey Kwun. I don't mean to gripe, but I just noticed that in the review section, the "reply to" button doesn't come up unless there is already an existing review for the given product. Also, I can't seem to figure out from the interface how a user can submit the very first review for a given product. Since the review site is moderated, does it mean we should submit the initial review directly to you?
Please advice.
-Rick

Click on the "post a review" button
Traum 10-08-2003, 12:18 AM Oh, man... I am so sorry... I must be blind... :(
Thank you, BRL...
-Rick
bigredlemon 10-08-2003, 01:01 AM glad to help
:)
GarlicJoe 10-08-2003, 06:23 AM This is great, something people have been waiting for I'm sure..
Bear with me Kwun: ;)
I'd like to have some products added. Yonex AS10, T90 feather shuttles, Carlton feather shuttles (I haven't seen anyone use the Carton shuttles in the review section, those have to be very old), Karakal grips, Yonex CBG100 strings. I vote for a stringing machine section too..
Some things appear twice, such as Yonex MP 77. Also It would be nice to have them in alphabetical order (or in series-alphabetical order). The Yonex - Racquets section is a mess in this regard.
Perhaps it should be possible for the users to enlist new products themselves? This could be implemented later of course.
It would be nicer to have categories for the different shoes instead of having "Yonex Badminton Shoes" with all different reviews in there..
PS. My dayjob is to find bugs in software and to propose different software behaviours. :D
Hi,
a couple of requests to allow user to upload products. i have turned that feature on, you can find it on 'upload product'.
enjoy. don't abuse it, else we will turn it off... ;)
bigredlemon 10-08-2003, 02:52 PM or you could allow people to upload only to the unsorted directory if the current state is abused
Traum 10-09-2003, 01:34 PM Sorry for being such a nuisance, but I've been trying to add a Gosen string (Hy Sheep Super Micro) review without very much success. In fact, I think I screwed up the process rather badly too...
At first, I was having difficulty uploading an image of the product. The server said it couldn't locate the file after it has been uploaded. (And in my infinite wisdom, I somehow didn't write the error message down... :( )
Also, I guess I wasn't familiar with the way the reviews are set up, and I've wrongfully put my review in the description section when the "upload a product" link is first loaded up. I didn't realize my mistake until I was asked to do a proper review after the new product has been added.
But even after that, the review didn't show up in the proper category. Instead of appearing under Home > Badminton Strings > Gosen > Hy Sheep Super Micro, it showed up under the Home > Traum category as you can see from here:
http://www.badmintonreview.com/rp/showproduct.php?product=391
Upon a more thorough look through the products upload page (http://www.badmintonreview.com/rp/uploadproduct.php), I noticed that in the Category combobox (the one that pulls down when you click on the arrow), we can't select any categories to file my review under. I don't know why I don't see anything there. Perhaps only administrators/moderators can see the proper categories?
I know my unfamiliarity with the review system and the resulting mistakes are causing extra work for the mods, and I am really sorry about that. Would Kwun and the mods please look into this?
-Rick
bigredlemon 10-09-2003, 02:37 PM Looks fine to me Rick
i am still learning too. every time a user adds a product, it has to be approved by the admin. so i actually went in to approved and selected the appropriate category for you.
let me see if there are better ways to go about this..
but thanks for the add and review... :)
bigredlemon 10-09-2003, 03:01 PM is the program in php? if so can i see the source?

Just experienced the same.
1. Having difficulty to upload pic for SOTX STB 8080+
2. The "category" is empty, and don't know if this will mess up the set up or not.
3. Received error message for "can't locate files" (image files) in under "kwun's folder"... Nononon... I am not trying to hack in or something.
4. Can't see 8080+ after the error message. Assume did not upload it correctly, or I just mis-placed somewhere?
Help, help, help... Or maybe I should just email all the info to the moderators, and let them handle the work? Losing confidence and braveness to do this work by myself already... :D
