View Full Version : Why is it so hard....
SL55gIrLy 10-06-2003, 10:24 PM Why is it so hard to find badminton eqipment/badmin buddies? Today, I went to many stores looking for a specific racquet (which I saw on their websites) and none of them has it in store. After all that driving around, I thought, "Even if I got the racquet, who am I gonna go with?" Thinking, thinking, and more thinking..... Finally, I realise: No one I know play badminton!!
bigredlemon 10-06-2003, 10:26 PM join a club. more players than you'll ever need.

This surely sounds sad...
What's ur location anyway? Maybe u can search the "market place" for local / online dealers, and "Place to play" to see whether u can join some clubs around ur home area.
If no such luck, post and pray for answers. :D
woop. 10-07-2003, 03:11 AM I make a habit of buying badders stuff on the net. Firstly I get good deals that way and secondly I'd have to drive a ridiculous distance to even find a shop that sells Yonex trainers.
Joanne 10-07-2003, 05:39 AM Sounds like your 1st racquet? Are you a beginner or been playing for quite a while already? Because if you're a beginner you can easily start badminton training(like me!:D). Or you could introduce the game to friends. Many of my friends I play with barely know how to serve though, and it's not much fun after playing with them for about an hour. If you start training you can play against others.
Just my two cents. ;)
SL55gIrLy 10-07-2003, 11:25 AM Thanks for everyone's advice. It actually is my second racquet. I used to have one but I left it at home when I moved to this country 5 years (or so...) ago. I'm just trying to get back to it so I can get my healthy dose of excerise. I live in the SF Bay area. I guess I'll have to put more effort searching around since people here seem quite busy all the time.

I think there are many BFers around ur area. Surely u can do a serach in the "Place to play" section, and find some local clubs around ur home. As for local equipment dealers, I am not sure how far each one of them away from ur home. However, there are several reputable ones in CA, and I am sure u can somehow get a hand on the stuff easily.
Is it that hard to find players in US or CND?
Joanne.. you must be good then since you went for a trainning before. :) ehhe
wood_22_chuck 10-07-2003, 12:16 PM or you could take a 30 min drive and play with Kwun!

That's not such a bad idea :D
I can get to Mountain View in 15 minutes.
What is he like?
there are tons of places to play in the bay area. you need to do the work and find them.
as mentioned, places to play forum is a good start. specificly, there is this thread that is only a day or two old:

That's totally fine, I haven't played in 5 yrs :P
I contacted a friend whose from HK (where I was from), and he said he wouldn't mind going practicing with me ;)
-- Just got an email from the site where I ordered the racquet. They said it's out of stock, so I'll have to wait another 2 weeks until they get a shipment.
Joseph 10-07-2003, 09:08 PM what racquet did you order?
Traum 10-07-2003, 09:35 PM What racquet are you looking for? There are lots of shops on the Internet that carry numerous racquets from different manufacturers, so you're bound to find one that carries the racquet you're looking for. Granted, I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a racquet unless they've tried it out first. But if you know what you're looking for and it hasn't been discontinued yet, finding it online can't be that difficult.

Joanne 10-07-2003, 09:43 PM So what exactly made you remember about badminton after 5 years? You saw the WC or something? :D
Ants, I'm currently STILL training. Can't be good. ;)
joanne.. the national team also still on trainning everyday... what about them? :P
Joanne 10-08-2003, 10:46 AM I only train weekly. ;) People who don't know how to even serve start training too... ;)
:) ok i was jesting you. So who trains you? How much do you pay for the trainning?
SL55gIrLy 10-08-2003, 06:02 PM I ordered the Wilson Hyper Hammer 85 from sportsUnlimited.com
I guess I always want to get back into it because I was in the team back then. Plus, now that I'm working in front of a computer in an office 5 days a week, I really need to find something I like to get my excerise going.
Tezta.com 10-08-2003, 11:08 PM so just out of curiosity, what does SL55 mean?
Traum 10-09-2003, 01:48 AM That's the AMG Mercedes that I drool over each and every day la.

wood_22_chuck 10-09-2003, 12:17 PM Holee moley,
If that's what she drives, no wonder she can make it to Mountain View in 15 mins, as she attests!

SL55gIrLy 10-09-2003, 05:15 PM The SL55 does mean the Mercedes SL55 AMG, but I don't drive one though ( but I see it every time I drive to work, and I have it on the background of my workstation :D) I drive a Lexus, so 15 minutes to Mountain View is still quite easy.:D

Do you want to play badminton at Bintang on Saturday night from 7-11?

Where is Bintag?? I really wish I can, but I'm still waiting for my racquect:(
Joseph 10-09-2003, 05:33 PM Bintang is located in Mountain View I think. At Shoreline? Not sure, Kwun can clear this up. I'm almost always there on Saturday nights. If you see two teenagers sitting down or playing on the first court, then that's us. Just pm me when you can possibly play.
