Now Chen Hong has collected 2118 points for the Olympics 2004, and Lee HI has 2151+ points which put him at the top.

Lin Dan has 1986+ as the third, and Bao CL has 1743+ has the distant fourth.

If Lin wins the Hong Kong title, he will pass Chen Hong as the second, otherwise, he remains the third. Bao CL stays the fourth no matter how he performs at Hong Kong open.

Polsana did pretty good at Germany open, before that he always lost in the earliest two rounds in all Olympic qualifying events. Now this time, he is doing even much, much better. I have to kick Lee TS out of the list

Points Leaders:

Lee HI 2151
ChenHong 2118
Lin Dan 2067
Bao 1743
Shon 1692
Xia 1452
Wong 1407
ChenYu 1332
Roslin 1329
Susilo 1314
Ng 1293
Sony 1170
Hafiz 1149
Lee CW 1143
Polsana 1077 (was 618 before HK open)
Taufik 1047
Gade 966
Jonassen 873

Prize leaders:

ChenHong 35.95

This is impressive. I wonder if the players are interested in this. Maybe they already have somebody calculating it out already.

There should be totally 16 one star and above tournaments for Olympics qualifications. Hong Kong open is the 8th in the time order. So it is exactly the half way in the race. The points they got so far are listed as following:

Lee HI ……………. 2151
Lin Dan ……………. 2148
Chen H ……………. 2118
Bao ……………. 1743
Shon ……………. 1692
Xia ……………. 1533
Wong ……………. 1407
ChenYu ……………. 1332
Roslin ……………. 1329
Susilo ……………. 1314
Ng ……………. 1293
Sony ……………. 1170
Hafiz ……………. 1149
Lee CW ……………. 1143
Polsana ……………. 1077
Taufik ……………. 1047
Gade ……………. 966
Jonassen ……………. 873
LeeTS ……………. 780

Lee HI, Lin D, Chen H are very close in points. Although Lee is now at the 1st place, only 10 best records will be counted, so at the end, he might collect too many useless points. He's number 1 because he played more tournaments (all 8 tournaments). His biggest points from a single event were from Singapore open, and Indonesia open, where he got 336 each for reaching the semi-finals. While Chen Hong has 480, 408, and 420 in the south east asia trip, any of them has more points than Lee's biggest contribution.

So if we only count the best 5, here is the list:

Chen H ……………. 1902
Lin Dan ……………. 1851
Lee HI ……………. 1569
Bao ……………. 1503
Xia ……………. 1458
Wong ……………. 1407
Shon ……………. 1305
ChenYu ……………. 1257
Roslin ……………. 1194
Sony ……………. 1170
Lee CW ……………. 1143
Susilo ……………. 1140
Ng ……………. 1053
Taufik ……………. 1047
Hafiz ……………. 981
Polsana ……………. 981
Gade ……………. 924
Jonassen ……………. 873
LeeTS ……………. 750

This way, Chen Hong and Lin Dan are the top 2. And there are 4 Chinese in the top 5 positions.

If count 4 best performances:

Chen H ……………. 1638
Lin Dan ……………. 1611
Xia ……………. 1338
Wong ……………. 1332
Bao ……………. 1293
Lee HI ……………. 1272
ChenYu ……………. 1152
Shon ……………. 1140
Roslin ……………. 1074
Sony ……………. 1050
Taufik ……………. 1047
Lee CW ……………. 1023
Susilo ……………. 960
Polsana ……………. 921
Ng ……………. 888
Jonassen ……………. 873
Gade ……………. 864
Hafiz ……………. 831
LeeTS ……………. 708

By this calculation, all top three are Chinese, Chen Hong, Lin Dan and Xia Xuanze. Lee HI is out of top 5.

If count only 3 best results:

Lin Dan ……………. 1356
Chen H ……………. 1308
Xia ……………. 1170
Wong ……………. 1140
Bao ……………. 1062
ChenYu ……………. 1032
Lee HI ……………. 972
Shon ……………. 948
Taufik ……………. 912
Roslin ……………. 882
Sony ……………. 858
Lee CW ……………. 831
Polsana ……………. 816
Susilo ……………. 768
Jonassen ……………. 753
Gade ……………. 744
Ng ……………. 720
Hafiz ……………. 663
LeeTS ……………. 648

Wow, all 5 Chinese are ahead of Lee HI, and Lin Dan will be the number one.

The reason for these discrepency is the draw. IBF always wants Chinese players collide each other as early as possible. In Hong Kong Open, 5 Chinese are all ranked. The earliest possible round to collide is in the 3rd round. Then they let 4 Chinese fight each other in the 3rd round. Lin Dan was lucky because there is no 6th ranked Chinese.

As in all the tounaments, as long as Chinese have 3 spots in top 4, the fourth quadrant will always not accept other Chinese (mostly Xie Xing fang), and Camila Martin always in that quadrant. If only one event, it's okay, because the chance is (1/4)*(3/4)= 0.1875. But for all 6 tournaments (except Holland open which had no Chinese, and Germany open which Chinese occupied all top 4 seeds), the chance is only 0.00004

Last, the prize money leaders:

Lin Dan ……………. 41.95
Chen H ……………. 35.95
Xia ……………. 30.875
Lee HI ……………. 21.2
Wong ……………. 18.65
Taufik ……………. 16.575
Bao ……………. 15.75
ChenYu ……………. 15.575
Shon ……………. 12.375
Polsana ……………. 11.65
Roslin ……………. 9.525
Lee CW ……………. 8.775
Sony ……………. 7.975
Susilo ……………. 7.0325
Ng ……………. 6.4
Hafiz ……………. 5.875
Jonassen ……………. 5.475
Gade ……………. 4.9

You are right. The list was updated in the same pace as the real time games going. The last one was calculated after the HK final.

After the China open, badminton will go off season. I am wondering why Wong CH, Lee TS, Lee CW skipped so important 6 star HK open?

thanks 2cents, i would expect you to be very up-to-date. but just want to confirm to be sure.

not sure why Wong skipped it. but i read that Misbun felt that Lee and Lee are not up to the form and fitness to play badminton so they were left at home. as to why Misbun thinks Hafiz and Roslin are in form, that's just beyond my comprehension.

I think that is a good question. actually, I could see the logic of only playing 2 rather than 3 tournaments, and playing the 2nd, 3rd tournament (because other competitors might become tired for the 3rd one if they had played 3)[. anybody follow that?]. Seems that Lee CW is the most unlucky one becuase he reached the final of the M'sian Open and that set up a good basis to gain more point. Don't know if he is playing in the China Open but it seems a little risky to bank on gaining many points from one tournamnet (if he is playing in China).

I think Misben make a mistake about the abence of WONG CH and Lee CW in hongkong open.

I don't think Lee CW can get enough points in China open.Because many talent young chinese ms players will run for china open.I think they will make some impressive upset in China open.
