I couldn't find a better way to explain the term. I noticed at the Japan Open that there were a couple of pairs in the mens doubles who were from different countries. Like Harmono Yuwono(INA)/Yusuke Sekine (JPN) and Reony Mainaky (INA) and Keita Masuda (JPN) who lost to Tony/Halim and Candra/Sigit respectively.

Why are pairs made with players of different nationalities? You could also ask why not but since its not so common in badminton, why do you think they do it?

Why not just make Yuwono/Mainaky and Sekine/Masuda. That way, they would have an all Indonesian and all Japanese pair.

Sometimes pairings are not based mainly on the origin of the players...

It's been done before as well... I forget the names, but you can have players from North America teaming up to take on your European, and Asian super powers.
(not like we would win or anything...)

Don't worry, all of Singapore's top players are Indonesians...... eg Indra Wijaya, Ronald Susilo and Aman Santoso.....

At least you have top players... j/k
Our players here train very hard, and I respect them all for all the work they put into the sport.

It's just too bad that we're not able to really compete with the rest of the world yet.

I think North America should start up some sort of competitive league here... that would drum up some more support for our sport.

Have like league matches, and a point system... that would be pretty interesting here.

I know in Europe they have their own league circuit... that would help to generate some interest in the sport here.

Maybe there was an arrangement between the two countries to give each others players more exposure to a different style of partner.

At other times, there may be an adhoc arrangment if one partner has to suddenly withdraw.

I know that Marleve Mainaky is heading to Japan to play for the clubs there. could similar thing be happening for Reony and Yuwono? Some country has resident requirement before a player can represent them.

Some players are club sponsored. As they could not make the national team, any expenses in taking part in international c'ship is not subsidised. You have to look for your own fund. In the case of Reony and Yuwono, most probably they are sponsored by some Japanese club hence the pairing with Japs.
