For those with towel grips...

Hi all,

Just thought id try out some towel grips....please tell me, those who use them, do you take off say the PU grip and then the grip onto the wood of the handle, or do you leave it on and put the towel over the PU grip?

i put it on the pu grip but then the handle gets way too big for me. If you put it directly onto the wood, you'll have trouble removing all of the tape when u replace it. But then again you'll probably damage the pu grip when you remove it from that too.

Putting onto the wood might also be a bad idea because then you wouldn't have much shock absorption once the material gets wet from play.

BRL, I put my grip right over my PU grip, with a layer of saran wrap in the middle. This way it prevents both breaking the the PU grip when removing the towel, or H2O soaking the PU grip, making it stinky. When you remove the towel grip, the saran wrap just goes out with it :D

I dont do this with towel grip, but I do it with all my overgrips because they are VERY sticky. Preserves the PU grip well!

I remove the PU grip , then i put a layer of scotch tape over the wood grip before i put on the towel grip. Hence make it easier to remove the towel grip when you want to dispose it. And also it protects the wood.

I use the towel grip from Central Sports that comes in 20m (or whatever) rolls.
I did once put it straight onto a PU grip and when I came to change it it ripped the PU up. It's got very sticky glue on it.

So now I always use some electrical insulation tape as a protective layer before putting the towel grip on.

Depending on how big a grip I want, I might go wood, tape, towel
or wood, original grip, tape, towel.

My racket's grip is 3 1/4 inches thick and I put a layer of scotch tape before the towel grip to protect the wood just like what ants does.

A collegue of mine at the club we play suggested wraping clingfilm in the anti-clockwise direction just like the PU grip and then putting on the towel grip in the same direction. Have been doing this for quite a while and my original grip looks as good as new. As you unwrap the old towel the clingfilm comes off with it leaving no signs of gunginess(?) behind. And you start the same process for replacments.:D

So you wouldnt suggest gripping onto wood?

Actually, I have the racquet of an exprofessional.

When I first got the racquet, it had a towel grip on it which I then removed. The leather grip underneath had been removed and there was a very thin layer of material, not even covering all of the wood (rather like the gauze grip).

The racquet was a Yonex G4 size handle, so with practically just a towel grip on it, the handle felt really small. Of course, that was when I knew less about badminton grip size and didn't realise how important it was.

That would depend on your personal preference.
