Hi,

I'm planning to buy a ISP 900SR soon and was thinking to restring it with Yonex BG-80.

How many lbs should I restring it in order to make it powerful and on the other hand, will not damage the racket?

Will 25/26 lbs be too tight?

Thanks for any suggestions and help! :)

From experience using the BG80 string, they don't last long. I play 3 times a week and I can only get 4-6 weeks of use from the strings. Great power and control but doesn't last. I'm only stringing at 20lbs. Also, after 2 weeks, the tension loses considerably. The BG80 is kind of like a racing tire, great for performance but poor on longevity.

If your BG80 breaks after 12-18 sessions then I think you have either a racquet problem or a bad stringer. I use BG-80 on several of my racquets, and I find it very durable. I play with feather shuttlecocks.

Or maybe one heck of a smash.

Probably 25lbs is for people who don;t mind if their racquet breaks.

Are you refering to BG-80 or BG-85? Cos from what I've seen from the review, BG-85 is the one that will break often, BG-80 is more durable.

So what do you recommend me?

Will 25/26 be too damaging for my racket?

What lbs should I strung it to? Thanks!

I would suggest you to try the Gosen Roots B505 string. They are like the Yonex BG-80 and they last a whole lot longer. You may need to put about 1/2 pound more becuase these strings stretch more. These strings are synthetic gut for very good performance. I used to use BG-80 until they kept breaking so many darn times until a specialty store rep asked me to try the Gosen roots which was just like the BG-80. Once I gave it a tried it, it was very good becuase the poping souned a whole lot differnt than BG 80. I forogt how long the strings lasted to the exact but they lasted a whole lot longer than BG-80.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the reply.

Is the Gosen Roots string easily found? Cos I'm living in Singapore and dunno is the string located here locally.

So how many lbs should I string if I'm using Gosen Roots?

Thanks again!

Hee modious also posting here :)

BTW, can we find Gosen Roots or BG90 locally? I heard BG90 also sort of imitate the "guts" string is it?

I never heard of BG90

I would start off at around 21/22 pounds then slowly move up the tension as and when you see fit. I tried 25/26 lbs with BG85 - I don't have quite the acceleration to use that sort of tension.
24/25 is fine for me and I play a lot.

I think BG-90 cannot be found anywhere else currently except Japan is it not?
Anyway Blitz, I think I saw Gosen Roots at Tapiness Sports Hall.

U're getting SR....
Why not SS or SX?
Too offensive for your liking?

Hi modious,

Cos I see carefully all the reviews and the statistics given by the Yonex website. It seems that the balance point position and the lightness of the SR is to my liking hee......

The SS is cool but the balance point is in the middle of the racket, which I think isn't much suited for me to smash......

It should be BG95, not BG90. In addition, it no longer manufactured. The latest string from Yonex is BG88-Ti.

As Cheung said, if you have no idea on how much string tension best fit yourself, you should start with 20-22 lbs and then gradually go up (e.g. by 2 lbs each time). Fyi, I start with 22 lbs and now I can play happily up to 30 lbs. Depending on the type of string and racquet, my preference is 25 to 28 lbs.

BG85 is a very good string, except for durability. IMO, a string which can play for 10-20 times is already ok (it just costs less than a shuttle for each play).

One of my coach said that BG66 is even better, but it is also less durable than BG85 too.

Yeah I'm using BG-66, seems to be very good!
