For me? :p

Seriously though, this could be titled "Look for the two Forza signs in this picture".

Wonder when we are going to see some of the guys do the same?

In one of my gyms, it was so hot, we would sometimes take off the T-shirt (still keep the shorts on). We got shouted at for being indecent!!

Running shorts don't seem to be popular here for playing badminton, though it seems quite acceptable for runners..

One of the reasons why I enjoy badminton is because the clothing is decent. Imagine if we have to wear clothes like some tennis players... no thank you!

Isn't it strange how there are some very attractive female pro tennis-players (even though they are hardly world class) and virtually no attractive female badminton players? I've also noticed this at the badminton clubs I play at; but perhaps that's a good thing, as I wouldn't be able to concentrate if there were.

Try Carola Bott of Germany, but you'd have to up sticks and move to be in the same club.

The current Yonex skirt thingy looks pretty good, esp on Zhou Mi. That I think is good enough as I don't think they need to bare more skin on the court. It's not outdoors where one needs some extra 'exposure' to help dry the sweat. :)

But if Camilla does wear that for her matches, I'm sure many won't be protesting, no? :D

i too think the new clothings Yonex has came up with are very nice. modern and yet attractive. also nice to see ladies players are starting to wear skirts too, i think they do look rather nice on them. badminton has been rather "boring" in terms of appearance, so this is definitely a good move. scanning through some old tapes, now badminton players looks much more professional than say 10 yrs ago where they are only allowed to wear white+white.. yucks.

I agree Kwun.. Last time the attire is very boring. Nowadays the new clothing is really a so called "turn on" to all the fans. At least something different. Simple and yet look attractive.

Oh well, I'm a rather conservative person, don't even like sleeveless shirts. And besides, I doubt I'll be comfortable with tight fitting clothes, I prefer lose ones. ;) Badminton shirts can be colourful too, look at some of the Chinese players. I love their shirts!

And Kwun, white+white isn't that bad, I like wearing white when playing badminton. And according to some people white+white=angel. :)

I am open to whatever is lying around the house if it is just a club night (I can often be found playing in my Liverpool shirt) but I do keep some standards for matches. I normally play in white(ish) sports shirts or maybe a coloured Yonex one.

Some people seem to get a bit funny if you play in something too exotic for a match.

depends. i wouldn't mind wearing one for the recreational games. but to attend a real tournament, probably not.

There's a teen in the club I play at who has his name and country of origin printed on every Yonex polo shirt he wears to play, as if he was a professional player. He even switches to different shirts between every game. Even though he's not a national player he still looks very sharp and I'm sure he feels good/proud wearing it which is pretty much all that matters :).

So I think your daughter should just wear the shirt proudly, especially since it was a gift from her coach. I think it's just like wearing NHL hockey jerseys, or soccer/football jerseys. Nothing wrong with wanting to dress like top players or being proud of your country, especially if it will make you feel better and perhaps even play better. If your daughter is afraid of what the other kids will think, then just explain that she should wear the shirt as a reminder to always train hard and aspire to achieve high goals :).

=Begin of non-relevant post=

The thing is, wearing those jerseys of hockey or football (soccer to you Yankees) could actually hinder movement as they usually have longer sleeves or length that could become heavy when it starts absorbing sweat.

My personal favourite (although no relevance to 'new female attire... :D ) is the simple collared-T shirt made especially for badminton, tennis or table tennis which are much lighter than common cotton T-shirts. The sleeves are also a tad shorter. I always pull the sleeves up when I wear normal T-shirts as they felt 'annoying'...

Ummm... perhaps I should have been more clear. I meant wearing pro hockey and soccer/football jerseys while playing hockey or soccer/football... not for playing badminton! :D Although there is one guy at my club that always wears huge basketball shorts and soccer/football jerseys... he looks very... unique :D.

yes there's this girl who is also training under the same coach as my daughter who always wear a pair of basket ball shorts, and as she is not tall she looks sort of cute and 'unique' as timeless has mentioned, but she can play very well.

I think we can certainly do with colourful, well-cut and comfortable sports wear for our badminton players, especially the ladies.

Why should we allow the tennis girls to steal all the thunder and international limelight? Of course we have in badminton, beautiful girls with well-proportioned bodies to match in both the West and the East but so far, maybe because of the more conservative guidelines issued by the world badminton body, our girls are not allowed to display their charm and their assets.

We want the mass media, especially the TV, to focus on badminton as an attractive and demanding sport and one way is to attract worldwide attention with our model-like ladies in attractive colours! Badminton may then become a glamour sport and gather mass appeal. With this will follow generous sponsorship and the creation of a viable badminton industry worldwide. This is what our laggard badminton fraternity needs to push itself into the ranks of the world most popular sports.

Already, our so-call conservative Chinese girls are abandoning the dull and unattractive clothing of the past and are even prepared to wear skirts which hitherto seem only the domain of our badminton girls from the West. You can't miss the glaring differences between now and then. How attractive they look nowadays!

Maybe, the IBF should encourage greater flexibility and allow designers to come up with more attractive designs. Maybe our ladies from the West should lead again in wearing more bold and dashing outfits to give their tennis counterparts a good run for their money! Let us shed our conservative image! Be more creative, more dashing, more attractive, more appealing, more, more, more of every positive thing that can give badminton that extra lift to its image!

As an amateur athlete, wearing your country's name on your clothes is a sign of pride and support of your country and it's top representative athletes. There is no amount of skill requisite to want to do that. And it's not like your daughter walks around with her nose in the air, pretending to be on the national team. You know, you could always just ask the coach if it is "okay" to wear the shirt at training. That way if she has his "blessing" it might help her feel it's fine to wear it. In fact, you could always just say that the coach would feel insulted if she didn't wear it since he gave it to her as a gift! :D

Well done, Cheung! Hope our guys can take the lead.

Problem is design and fashion in men's wear seems to be limited. Take a look at tennis, which is a good benchmark, as it is always in the limelight. Compare the fashion between the guys and the gals. You normally find new creations for the gals and hardly anything for the guys. But I do appreciate that some guys try to maximize their 'macho' appeal by showing off their muscular and masculine bodies.

Which brings me to this irresistible topic that "the opposite attracts". More attractive looking lady badminton players will somehow get the guys excited and wanting to find out more. And vice-versa, although it can't be disputed that more guys are engaged in sports than gals.

Maybe our final BF T-shirt design, worn by both our BF guys and gals in their respective social games and even at international tournaments will cause a great deal of excitement and inquiry. The spin-off: More will want to play the game and want to find out "Who is BF?"

I go to two clubs, I would love to wear the clothes interchangably in them, but sadly I can't. In my more professional club, they restrict tanks, I love them, as long as you got your deodorant on, you can move more freely and I am pretty proud of my arms and wouldn't mind showing them off in front of the ladies, too bad, I'm only able to wear it in my other club. Also I refuse to wear those Yonex short shorts. My legs are quite muscular and I would look better than an average guy in them but still. If i wear my atheletic boxers, they would stick out, it's so sad when your boxers are longer than your shorts. All my shorts are usually just about knee length or lower.

A collared T-shirt as 'proper attire' is probably not due to Japanese conservatism in badminton. Not too long ago, it was a must even for tennis as was the colour 'all-white'. Badminton followed the same strict dress code until not too recently when tennis has broken away much earlier.

Even in most golf clubs, especially in the West, I suspect, the conformity to a collared T-shirt still rules, collarless or round-collared Ts are completely barred. As you probably know, in some hotel restaurants, shorts are not allowed.

But the sad thing is that there is still discrimination - some are allowed to bend the rules, depending on who you are.

I just read over the weekend that in one reputable international hotel here, a local went to the restaurant in his shorts because of the hot weather. He was promptly stopped and asked to change to long pants supplied by the hotel, which he reluctantly obliged since it was the hotel's dress code. But he saw another patron who wore shorts and allowed to remain in the restaurant.

He questioned the waiter about the disparity and was told that the hotel had run out of long pants. When approached, the hotel manager seemed to admit that it was not a case of shortage of pants and promised to look into the dress code policy. It appeared that the other patron was not asked to change to longs because of his skin colour. The 'colonial mentality' still remains in our midst and equality of treatment is not necessarily true even in modern Singapore.

the point is, in the previous picture, you saw Carola Bott in a tennis-like fashion of clothing... i'm sure even if it was allowed, some shuttlers may still prefer the traditional collared shirt and short-shorts, but some shuttlers may like to dress in a more...stylish, revealing, 21st century sports clothing... but why don't they? well because carola bott is not sponsored by yonex unlike almost every other shuttler out there...therefore, the lack of more interesting and attractive clothing is yonex's fault since they are the main suppliers of badminton clothing...

and yes its true Loh, racism exists as well, but i just don't think it plays much part in this... however...i do think that racism is getting better, maybe cause i'm in canada, there will always be unfairness and mistreatment in our society, but i do feel like its getting better, schools are making an effort to educate the kids in their infancy not to be discriminative and i do feel for the most part it is helping... :)

Personally, i think it doesn't matter what you wear for badminton.

As a girl, i find that when you wear a top or skirt that's tight or short, guys cannot seem to concentrate on anything else. You can just see their eyes lingering on places which THEY SHOULD NOT! (Although it'll be a good distraction, unless your doubles partner is not looking at the shuttle... )

Besides, tennis is played outside therefore it'll be much hotter. and in badminton, there is more dropshots and jumps, can you imagine how much flesh would flash in a mini-skirt? (says one with the experience ;) ) It's also annoying when picking up the shuttle and you have to bend down... :D

Well, anyway, i hope you understand what i mean... :D

oh, and guys! by all mean, if you wanna strip in the middle of the court, we have NO objections whatsoever ;) ;)

It's already a big improvement for IBF to allow badminton players to wear other colour t-shirts besides white colour. Before that, badminton players can only wear white t-shirts right???

I will wait and see, the next improvement.... ;)

However, I think it's not appropriate if badminton players are to wear like tennis players, esp. Kurnikova. Weird. Or you can imagine table tennis players wear like Kurnikova. Not suitable at all from looks to practical use.:cool:
