I just bought a new tournament style badminton net. It has the typical nylon cords at each corner for attachment to the poles. However, it also has a steel cable which runs through the top section of the net. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the cable is. Can someone enlighten me ?
Thanks.

I think it's suppose to be there to keep the net straight.

steel makes it more durable and can support the weight of the net

Its so that it holds the net up better and straight. If you don't have the steel, the net would be lower in the middle than at the sides.

Does the steel cable pass through it and stick out on each ends? If so then it would work like tennis nets where you have a winch on each side to tighten the line.

Michael,

i believe the steel cable is the main attachment, the nylon cord is only for holding the net in the right place.
