How good a quality are these compared to the videos available for download from www.badmintongallery.com?

I can vouch for the quality of his videos and for the price its a great deal.

The master copies are in PAL format copied from Malaysia/Singapore satellite/cable TVs. So the resolution is vhs(330 lines) except in digital MPEG2 format. It's not as crystal clear as true DVD but is good enough to see details of players movement on court. If you think the regular vhs is good enough for viewing then this is good enough. However, be aware that my DVDs are recorded in NTSC format and using DVD-R disc so for those PAL nations, you need to have multisystem DVD player that supports DVD-R disc in order to play.
May be some of my customers can provide feedback about my video, good and bad.

I got the wc2003 from Han and I can say that the video quality is excellent. Certainly at least as good as if taped onto vhs.
I wouldn't hesitate to purchase others from him if the wc is any indication.

I can confirm the good quality of the goods as well as the superb service, Han is a very honest and trustworthy vendor. He even told me all the stuff above because living in the UK he was unsure of the goods working on my DVD player and was concerned about conflicts with the UK DVD players. He had to go out of his way to get the money transfer and also shipped the goods the same day.

A gem, very rare these days.

Bought worldchampionship 2003 collections from Han, the quality is really good. Han, sorry, but the only reason I didn't buy from you again is these four DVDs are too good, I watched them almost everyday!:D

The one Xia Xue Ze Vs Jonassen is so good, I watched it again and again, I just can't go on to the next one! Highly recommend.

I am also looking forward to China Open.

Especially watching pros running back from the net and hitting overhead backhand clear to the other side's deep corner in super slow motion. I can see the motion, but somehow can't do it myself. :( But Han's DVDs are very clear even in super slow motion, great quality.

I also wanted to know more about the payment method and so on. Maybe you're away for the holiday or you changed your email address. I'll try again later.

I will add my vote of approval for Han. Excellent service. DVDs got to the UK in about 4 days from original order.

My old DVD player wasn't too happy with the DVD-R format, but they play fine on my PS2. I have an NTSC capable TV, and the picture quality is good on what I have watched so far (I got 10 discs so I'm gonna be busy for a while)

if you live in the states these are the best ones to get JVC

http://samstores.com/Store.asp?CtgID=47

I bought the 77sl and it works great

all the other makes you need to have a multi system TV as well for the DVD player to work not JVC

Just bought a Philips DVDR80 for 700 Euro. I'm living in Holland so I had to have the player/recorder adjusted so that it can play both NTSC and PAL dvds. Something apparently went wrong because it often freezes up, doesn't respond if I press a button on the remote or the player itself. It works again after I turn off and turn on the power. Could be a software problem, if it persists I'll have to return it. I really cannot recommend this player.

Sure it's not impatience.

I've heard these gizmos do not have immediate responses.

There's a time lag of about 5 secs b4 the writer operates or stops.

Another exciting oldie from 1986, the Thomas Cup Final between China vs Indonesia. For those who like to know Yang Yang, Icuk Sugiarto, high octane Lius Pongoh and Ding Qiqing, Li Yongbo/Tian Benyi, Lim Swee King and Xiong Guoboo, don't miss this one. The draw backs are camera technique and lighting were not as great as the recent video, no slow motion and reply either, but still very exciting to watch overall. The famous Eddie Chong was one of the analysts.
NTSC format, price $10

Han,
I'm a new member.
I'm interested in buying your DVDs. I emailed you for info last week but have not gotten a reply. I live about 10 mins from Milpitas so I'm wondering if
I could buy them in person. I'm thinking of buying several of them.
My email is n_kiattinant@hotmail.com

Never really seen any professional matches except for small clips here and there. Any suggestions on which one to get? 03 WC? Is it really worth $30? Or should i keep trying dl them online?

Hi Scriber,

Is it $20, not $30?

I think for 4 dvds for 17 hrs of professional level badminton is very reasonable price.
Even though i have not bought any dvds from Han yet, the testimonies from the buyers have described the quality to be very good. As for downloading them, it will maybe not worth the effort if it takes long time and then to convert them to dvd for collection will take even more time and hardware/cost.

For the advice on which one to get, i guess it depends on what you want to see.
If you want to see certain players / matches or types of games(doubles, singles, strategic, long rallies games) specifically, then maybe you can give some hints about it and Han can advise you which one to get. I guess Wc03 should have a large variety of players, games and is a good all-round view of competitive play.

By the way, thanks Han for sharing with other Bfers great badminton matches , especially old matches!!!

I spent a lot of time finding badminton video on the internet. I bought a DVD from WorldBadminton.net for $39 for about 100 mins of badminton. I just discover this forum last week and I'm planning to order a whole bunch from Han.

Quality is very good and shipping was quick. Got to me in 2 days. And he did not even wait till he received my payment. He shipped as soon as I mailed the check.

Honest and very very accomodating.... thumbs up!!!!

:D :D :D :D

Scriber - FYI on movies found on the web. The qualities are not good. If you watch them in half the size of 15 inch monitor, then its okay. But if you put it in full screen, the videos get choppy. Also, if you can't keep your connection and computer on 24/7 then dont even try downloading.

~ my two cents ~ ;)

I had the exact same experience with Han, he is a good guy.

Nowhere else can I find stuff like this for as cheap and quick, and reliable. With 17 hours on 4 DVDs, it is highly compressed video--don't expect DVD quality. Still, the 03 WC was a steal.. Very watchable and exciting... I will definitely buy more from Han, once through with this set (on the second DVD now, it's fantastic!)

The battle between Kenneth Jonassen and Xia Xuanze on the first disc was the most exciting match I've seen yet!!

Great stuff.

Just got the All England 85 from Han. Quick and great service as usual. First watch the semi-final match between Frost and Han Jain, the pace was so slow that I thought the players forgot the match had begun and still warming up. Then watch the final between Frost and Zhao, wow, I thought I pressed fast forward by mistake. Frost changed his style completely and played attacking game trying to match up with Zhao. Even Frost lost, his attaching style made Zhao make a lot of mistakes and make the final a very close match - Zhao won the 3th game 18 - 16. No wonder the commentator said Frost was one of the smartest players in the world because he had good game plans against different players. Just the match between Zhao and Frost match only worth the $10 already.

Of course I'll cover postage, thats a given....I'm sure it NTSC should be OK, cos I bought one of those "Yumcha" brand dvd players from eBay that claims to play any region, any code etc.... just bought a HK movie DVD from the US from eBay, played fine on it.

Got any 2003 tournament featuring the top men pros in MD & MS? For example, the 2003 world championships or Thomas Cups etc....

Another oldies which I think is worth to introduce
from 1983, Jakarta. The 4 top guns that advanced into
the Semi final include Misbun Sidek, Prakash Padukone,
Morten Frost and Luan Jin. Yes, Misbun was a bad dude
had his hair dyed while gentleman Prakash demonstrated
his master skill on court. Luan Jin and Morten Frost
were as usual, excellent and cool. Very close games on
all matches played, cheer along with 10,000 audiences
& thumbs up for this collection!
Malay commentation, NTSC format, price $10.
hint : "Keluarrrr" means "out", "Dalam" means "in" in Malay :-)

Oh, and I recommend that Park/Kim match against Antonius/Kantono - I watched it live. A very fine display of mens doubles badminton - a top ranking Indonesian pair being destroyed by a scratch pair. A very, very rare sight indeed! My friend missed the first set because of needing the toilet.

Hi Han,
I am delighted to note that you have a solid collection of DVDs on badminton matches. I am new to Badminton Central as I have just come across this web site. I have a collection of video tapes of matches shown over TV Malaysia as I used to record them in the 90's. However, video tapes get mouldy over time and I have lost most of my recording, and have to send them into the trash. Well, I am interested in the matches played in the 80's. I just like to know:-

1) how do I pay you, as I am in Malaysia? bank transfers?
2) when you mention $10, does that mean $10 per disc? and is this inclusive of the shipping charges, if not how much do you charge?

Thank you.

My DVDs are "Zone Free", however, it's in NTSC format so you need to have multisystem DVD player in order to play, many of the DVD players outside US are multisystem anyway but check out yours before placing order. I have few customers from New Zealand ordered from me and have been working well.

just in case you guys want to buy DVD's depending on the country they are from, here's a little improved list... i just copied from previous threads and added where they are from so not really a big deal but here they are:

Sorry for the delay, here's the Japan Open Final 2004
in NTSC format only, English commentation. Price $15.
Do not miss this high octane 5-star Final especially
MDF with veterans Kim/Ha vs youngsters Fu/Cai. I have

Very aggressive in attacking and very solid in
defensive on both sides, bullets flying everywhere ...
Also don't miss the feisty fight between Mia vs Gong,
another classic that hasn't happened since Ye Zhouying
vs Susanti era. Then there are the WD between Ra/Lee
vs Wei/Zhoa, MS Susilo vs Boa, oh man ...
Disc 1 :
XD : Widianto/Marissa vs Prapakamol/ThungThongkam(45m) (INA/THA)
MS : Ronald Susilo vs Boa Chunlai(45m); (SIN/CHN)
WS : Mia Audina vs Gong Runia(60m); (NED/CHN)

Sorry I'm confused. What are the differences between your DVD's and Han's DVD's? Or are you just competing with Han? Or are you and Han actually the same person using different user ID?

Hi Dill:
The 13-15 tapes are on the way to US from Malaysia and DVDs are from Australia. Not sure about the release date yet and not sure about what matches are in those tapes, my guess is more than just the final? Will inform you and sorry for the delay as US TV coverage is really nothing.
Will record into 2 hr mode for $5 per disc like Thomas Cup 2004.

I was in Taiwan the past 2 weeks. Major channels only showed olympic baseball games. Badminton matches were only shown on cable sport channels. But I think all semi's and finals were shown on sport channels. However, I missed some matches. So I'm waiting for your DVD also. :(

Han I'm looking for a match which I think is the Singapore Open 1992, It's for a friend?

"Zhao actually entered the Grand Prix Circuit of '92 and played out the Singapore final at the end of September that year where he taught Ardy Wiranata a valuable lesson in front of the whole world, winning 15-3, 15-1. Now that's one I'd love to see. Anyone got that on video?"

Any chances of having that on DVD?

I would have sent it to Stuart for him to give to you if you are still playing there, if not he could have forwarded to Denmark. I'm waiting for the olympics to be transfered to DVD and Han could have sent it with them

DLP logs in as himself so no, Phil (now I've given myself up  )yes ;) .

Good to see you have made it to this site, the depth of knowledge about the game is very high and no doubt you know Jonas and Lars who have their own forums.

Not like Han to take so long answering a request.

Hi Dill.

I most certainly am & have been now for almost 5 years. How do you know Stuart then? I'll be seeing him tomorrow & I'll have to ask if he knows you. However, I'm not sure if he'll know who you are as he doesn't come on this site but he may know you from our club perhaps?

I've been on this site for almost a year but I've been silent, choosing to talk to users directly via PM more, rather than posting. I prefer this site as well.

I have the MS, MD & XD Gold finals complete from the BBC digital broadcasts. I'll be happy to trade, especially for the above-mentioned match & two others of course. :D

Funny that, as I've just had a look at my posts & I've posted more than 6 but it seems to be stuck! I wonder what's going on? Kwun?

Dill

You should ask Han for any games you need and his e-mail address is earlier on in this thread.

I know Stuart from the site as I am the one sticking up for him in a certain thread in the site we frequent, I'm sure you know what is going on as you yorself have commented on but social circumstance would prevent me from naming it here.

From the club? If only I were that good!

If Han gets in touch I'll let you know! He has 18 tapes from Asia coming in to convert all the games from the Olympics, should be a better epic than Ben Hur ;)

The 19 tapes have arrived and I have been busy converting from round 32 to some of the QF. Seemed like one center court was use since QF hence all matches should be captured on tapes. Sorry for the delay, takes lots of time to convert to NTSC and shall offer PAL version as well for Olympic 2004 video, like AE2004.

As long as you have multisystem DVD player capable of playing NTSC video format and don't mind the higher shipping cost using registered mail then shipping to Indonesia is not the problem. I am currently working with an Indoensian customer ...
email me han_cheong@yahoo.com in the future. Olympic 2004 should be ready early next week in PAL and NTSC version.

Dear All,

We really need to give a special recognition to HAN.

I have spent a lot of time trying to look for some DVD/VCD/VHS in Badminton but in vain.

By getting us Badminton DVD in a reasonable price, HAN not only helps us a great deal but also helps promoting the Badminton Sports.

Well done.

Dear Han,

By the way, do you have DVD that has mainly "left-handed" players.

Best regards

The main reason of compiling the Final into high resolution(1.5 hr mode) is bacause every single final match ran pretty long so no way to fit 2 matches into 1 DVD unless I compile in low resolution mode which will impact the image quality.
As for how I should release the Olympic video, I am sticking to my old method/package - Gold, Bronze, Semi, QF, Round 16, Round 32. No reason to have variety of combinations as they only will cost more due to hard drive utilization for each combo and don't under estimate the time requires to author those combo. Current way is the best and most cost effective, in my opinion. Time to sleep, night night.

sleep? It's only 4:46pm according to BC time. Get back to encoding *whip*

Keep the resolution high as most people's monitor size will be measured in feet in the future.

In case you didn't wear you glasses or potentially blindness, check out the post #202 in this thread, which is just at couple of posts above.

Why can't people read/search?!

From #202 to #213 (your post), It's only 11 posts above your original post!!
It's even in the same page!!

I think you can at least read 11 posts, right??

Plus each thread has dates on them, so at least you can look at the dates and you can skip the dates before the game. Isn't that easy?? Come on.....

Hi,
How do I make a payment in case I order the videos. My problem is that I can not make an PayPal account because there is no my country in the country list? What are the alternatives? Western Union? Credit Card?

Han

Hi:
You can use Western Union for cash transfer, the fees are quite high so be aware. The other alternative is to get bank draft from your bank and mail to me, the draw back is time consuming as I only ship after payment arrives.

I thought you just entered a credit number. Paypal charges your credit card and pay Han. I don't think Paypal cares which country you are from.

I thought you just entered a credit number. Paypal charges your credit card and pay Han. I don't think Paypal cares which country you are from. That depends if Han has turned on the PayPal Account Optional feature. This new feature doesn't force people to sign up for a PayPal account anymore just to pay for something.

I maybe mad a mistake so please explain me how paypal works. I thought that to pay Han I got to have my paypal account (which I can not create because I am from Croatia).

I know that Western Union is expensive but if it is the only way...

I would like to order many matches including all Finals, MS QF, SF, bronze medal, Lin Dan vs Susilo, Hidayat vs. Hann, Ruina vs. Audina and few others so have to wait for you to rip them all so I don't need to pay twice for delievery.

I'm interested in purchasing some titles, but have a hard time compiling a
shopping list from some rather disjointed posts.

I don't mean to criticise. Please forgive me if it sounds like that. I simply
want to place an order quickly so I can watch some world-class badminton. (c:

Han, are you planing to have any matches of new young Chinese players, like Chen Jin? (my suggestions would be China Open 2004: Chen Jin vs. Xia Xuanze, Peter Gade vs. GONG Weijie, Chen Jin vs. Bao Chunlai and Taufik Hidayat vs. GONG Weijie).
