View Full Version : New to sport need raquet
Lychee 12-07-2003, 04:44 PM Hey guys i'm planning to start getting into badminton and i need to find a raquet to start off with. I'm planning to spend like 70-80 dollar canadian. I don't really know my style as i don't play much but i would want something that is fairly light weight that is balanced, don't like really heavy heads. The frame should be like semi-stiff.
I was kinda looking at the Black Knight Aero Pro TI 733, does anybody know if it is any good?
What raquets might you recommend?
cooler 12-07-2003, 04:58 PM mp22, 24, and 27. check '2003 racket measurement' for their specification
Also check Winex and SOTX but i dunno their current model line
bigredlemon 12-07-2003, 05:01 PM 733 is aeropro ti ver 2. I have one and think it's great for the price. You might be able to find it for $50ish. It's a great all-round racquet. Head heavy but not slow. Neither heavy nor light (87g). Extra long handle for easier backhand serves and fast drives. I'd pick that over the yonex or sotx racquets mentioned above any day.
Change the strings though. It feels deader than bg70. As for TUFF-grip... something like it while others hate it. You might want to replace it with something else if you find it comfortable.
Lychee 12-07-2003, 05:13 PM yeah my friend says that the spiral grip sucks but that is his opinion, i've never tried playing with a spiral grip but i'll find out if i get the BK. As for the strings i'll probably stick with the ones they come with for a bit until i get my technique back then swith to BG80 or something.
the yonex mp 22 is like 95 bucks canadian so that is a little out of my price range
iso 63mf and carbonex 8400 is something i can afford how are those raquets? i dont' think they are as stiff as the BK 733 though
cooler 12-07-2003, 05:17 PM offer them 75 dollar.
80% chance they will say yes
bigredlemon 12-07-2003, 06:06 PM more $$$ ==//== better.
The 733 has just the right amount of stiffness. You don't want to play with some noodle flexing low end yonex. IIRC, it feels about as stiff as a mp99.
ps. MSRP of 733 is $90. That's how much Brown's sells it for anyway.

Brown's sells the MP22 for 79.99:p
better yet, just offer 70$ :)
I'm not promoting or pushing any stores. I just want to present a balanced point of view.:)
bigredlemon 12-07-2003, 07:37 PM i think mp22 is a good racquet for him too....
but i think 733 is better and cheaper. :D
i'm sure u realize by now i'm a BK fan boy right? ;)
my next racquet isn't going to be a BK though...
cooler 12-07-2003, 07:39 PM of course, you spelled it out in your profile. Hehe
LazyBuddy 12-07-2003, 09:59 PM Just browse through WWC's site, and found 2 SOTX rackets are listed to be CAN$65-70.
http://www3.telus.net/K-SIS/Winex/eStore/SOTX_rac.htm
However, I never played with these 2 models, so, maybe contact Winex West Can for more information? Overall, with my experience with SOTX, they worth the $$$ I spent.
Also, why nobody metioned about Yonex Cab8200 light? That's a very good beginner's racket, easy to use, good for learning progress.
you should give the Victor Badminton Racket G 7500 III a try, not very light, good allrounder, perfect beginner racket.

Lychee 12-08-2003, 04:42 PM i think the yonex cab would be a little to flexable to me. as for the victor i'll check those out after my finals, gonna go around town checking out the badminton shops.
gonna compare the Bk 733, some yonex's, and the victor you mentioned
thanx for all the replies, it's been very helpful

thanx for all the replies, it's been very helpful hurry up though. Sportmart's 733 price going back up to $90... as of last month. If u can still find it for $50 then snatch if up fast. In their online site, the carbo knight was already back up to $70 for awhile. (It's similar to the cab 8200 in flex and weight imho.)
Lychee 12-08-2003, 04:52 PM i didn't know sportmart sold raquets, well i guess i did but forgot to check them lol
they only have the graphtec 9 and carbotec :( i wanted the 733 not the 703, maybe it's not on their site and their stores carry it?

Lychee 12-08-2003, 09:17 PM well sport mart in winnipeg has nadda. it has the BK's up to the carbo9 something and like one of them had the really low end yonex iso's. those ones were light enough i guess, can't really tell they got that cardboard thingy on them but they flex way too much for my liking.
Traum 12-09-2003, 12:12 AM If you're new to the sport and don't know your style yet, why don't check out the Yonex Iso 62 MF (or something like that) at your local Sports Chek? I've seen them on sale for as little as $39.99, and that's an incredible deal for a decent racquet.

Pointfore.Ca 12-09-2003, 05:07 PM I'd have to agree with Rick. Not to knock you or anything at all, but if you're new to the sport, you can definitely get a decent racquet for about $50 or so. Or even better, borrow someone else's racquet until you get a feel for what you like and then buy yourself a racquet. :)
Lychee 12-09-2003, 08:20 PM well i don't really know what style i play but i'm probably pretty balanced defensive/offensive wise although i do like to smash hard. i've played a bit with my cousin's old racquet and i like it. it was pretty heavy like 94g strung and stiff. so i think i want a semi-stiff racquet. would anyone know what raquet it was? it's a wilson, all grey frame and all grey full bag. it had a t-joint but the frame was all carbon i believe or graphite(same thing)
