*honestly*.... people expect the world for a penny....
speaking of which, just what are the odds of people winning this??? i'm willing to bet that kevin and raymond will be playing this...and i'm willing to bet that they will not be the strongest team.....
beat kevin and raymond, then we'll talk about prizes :D

So Nanashi, I suppose you're one of them too!:D :D Why do your staffs & members of Mandarin Club make everything sound so cheap! Do you actually want people to enter this "Varsity Level" of tournament? Afterall, Feb 21 is the Chinese New Year Eve, I suppose not everyone want to spend the whole evening at your club anyway......with no prizes or pizza being served. Thanks for your invitation! I will pass on all your words to everyone & make sure your club is well-known.

i'm pretty sure the person that wants dinner, a tournament, and prizes sounds pretty cheap to most people....
Obviously, you must not go to many tournaments (or dinners for that matter)
Actually, how about you run your OWN tournament, supply us ALL dinners, add some prizes, and charge each entrant $10? You can tell us all how much profit you made afterward.

How is 4:30-10:00pm the entire night? There are places that don't OPEN til 10pm.... And if you don't want to spend the entire night there, that's motivation to win your games quickly..

that tourney is at the same day as Ontario B's .....

it is... but it was either the 21st or 13st when 1/2 of the university students aren't on their reading/study week
since 21st is like in the middle of the two different time frame it is the better choice it's too bad that Ont. B is the same weekend but there are like more than one tournament each week!! hahah
it's either going to B and waste your money or Mandarin for $10 and have just as much fun for one day lol

Or you could play the mandarin tournament, not play singles at B's, and then play doubles and mixed at B;s! :D
assuming they are following a typical HP format

Sounds like a lot of fun - badminton and dinner. Hope someone can set up one here in the bay area also. :)

The tournament was run fairly well minus a few discrepancies in the draw. However this was hardly a "Varisty Challenge" considering half of the teams were not even on a varsity team or even in university for that matter. :)
But it was a fun a tournament and definitely well worth it for the price!

Yes, the day before, I saw the list of participants on a sheet of paper at the club. I was surprised, like Pointofore.ca said, lots of players were still in high school. But I also heard it was a fun tourney and was worth the price! Hope everyone had fun there. :)

i'd say the competition was rather meek on the ladies side.... 1-0 in the finals?!
the dinner wasn't bad... fish was a little risky.. considering that seafood allergies aren't particularly rare.. especially since each dish wasn't labelled... and one of the players told me it was chicken!!! "hmm.. this seems rather flaky for chicken..... wait a minute......!!!!"
