View Full Version : autographs, anyone
da ding 01-12-2004, 11:08 PM )hey chaps, i really have no idea how much autogrpahs of badminton players are worth... i ran my little arse off in the HK open chasing players to sign my shirt...:D :D :D
on that shirt, i have the signatures of... gao ling, zhang jun, kim dong moon, ra kyung min, ha tae kwon, sigit b, trikus haryanto, limpele, eng hian, lin dan, chen hong, rikke olsen, JR(:D ), boeson, jens eriksen, huang sui, zhang ning, cai yun, fu haifeng, bao chunlai, xia xuanze, choong tan fook, lee wan wah, zheng bo, lee hyun il, lee dong soo, yoo yong sung, the malaysian doubles coach (forgot his name), kim yong hyun...
how much do you reckon that shirt is worth?
sigh...didnt get peter gade, camilla, candra or xie xingfang...got rejected by gong ruina cuz she was all dejected after losing the final, rejected li yongbo myself cuz he's such a badtempered old fogey..
worth? probably not much as these are still current players.
i was accept autographs from Li Yongbo, TianBY, TangXF, Xia, GongRN (she is prettier in person!) and some others...
but was rejected by Wei Yili. she just kinda waved me off.. :(
birdieman 01-12-2004, 11:38 PM LOL...there's actually people that want badminton players' autographs? ;)
xofrevlis 01-13-2004, 02:57 AM You can have my autograph as well, next time I go to Hong Kong. :D

That really sucks..i think she might have a bad day that day. i was waved off few times as well. But manage to get them after all my charm and persistence.
jamesd20 03-03-2004, 01:34 PM Me and my G/f dont like wei yilli, she was rude to her when she ask fo rher autograph. She said she was tired, which was fair enough, but I still dont like her, Zhoa tinting (her partner, looked even moer tired, but she still signed, like her!)
Well we can say that she is not that al accomodating.
khelben 03-04-2004, 09:13 AM haha read some article somewhere that she gets very worked up after matches so i guess u prob picked the wrong time... last singapore open a kid approached her and not only did she sign, she brought his shirt in to the restricted player's section and got all the china team member's there to sign on it... must have been like 20 signatures!! haha she's actually quite nice i guess... haha
WoAiZhongGuo 03-25-2004, 01:52 PM dey'r all pretty nice. in EO2004, i asked Cai Yun or sumone i fink, 'Can i have your autograph please?' He then grinned and asked back in chinese, 'Why dont you speak Chinese?' I was so embarassed. my friend (stupidly) then asked him in chinese 'is dat guy LinDan' and pointed. Ahhhhhhh... Who is Wei Yili anyway? I dont realli care bout the females... lol

wilfredlgf 03-25-2004, 11:08 PM Try getting one from Taufik after losing a game due to bad calls...

actually Boonsak Polsana of thailand came second that time, but i didn't get his signature either.
I caught Bao Chunlai going down an elevator and kinda screamed his name in excitement--he looked around at me like i was a retard. I managed to run down the stairs fast enough to catch him (his elevator had restricted access).
I found Lin Dan warming up in preparation for the finals on the training courts with only sang yang and zheng bo--i asked him for his autograph and afterwards wished him good luck in Chinese, but he kinda mumbled a strange sounding reply back
:)
I've tried getting some shirts from the players.
gooooo china! 03-27-2004, 11:50 AM I asked her twice at the YAE and she always rejected me, so did Zhang Ning but everyone else didn't from the China team  worth? probably not much as these are still current players.

how did i manage to get their shirts? Well its not as hard.. just ask but make friends with them first.. just don't act like those fans ..crazy for an autograph or something.. they are humans as well. Once i did ask Lin Dan , now it seems that everyone gone crazy over you.. how do you manage to stand those fans? His answer was simple , just smile and walk away as fast as you can.. and we laughed!!
I manage to go to the players lounge few times. And i just ask.. since i was too excited to get the shirts.. i forgot to ask them to sign on it. Anyway the shirts is already good enough for me. Sweaty or not? Hmm the one Xia gave me is sweaty it was like yuck!. The rest the gave it to me fresh from their bags. Maybe they just dont like to give sweaty shirts to pll :D. I try to post some pics later.

did you mean trading in some skirts with Ants? :D:D:D
That would be a lot more fun!! Guess what would Ants do with skirts!? :)
wilfredlgf 03-31-2004, 07:49 PM The ladies should just wear something short and tight and ask Ants nicely. Ask him how you would look wearing this shirt and if he says, "You will look good", then reply, "How about if I make it a real, hmm?".
Ants a good lookin' dude, so both side wins. ;)
ok guys.. back on topic!!!
wilfredlgf 03-31-2004, 08:35 PM The closest I ever had to an autograph is one by Gong Li on a postcard. Too bad, not that of Gong Ruina.

Even if he lose.. of coz u dun go and ask him for autograph or picture taking if not you will be surely get rejected.. just approach him and say WE Will STILL SUpport You! You are still the best!.. i'm sure he will smile at you. Guarantee!

wood_22_chuck 04-22-2004, 12:24 AM I'll hazard a guess. This cutesy-boopsie language has got me scratching my eyeballs out *ahem* ...
Okay sorry about that. The enthusiasm of the fans has been really encouraging, with the candid pictures and engaging stories of meeting with these professional players which we all adore.
Now if there's some sort of automatic spell-corrector that translates:
noe -> know
tot -> thought
<cutesy-boopsie> --> coherent language
I'll be peachy-weachy.

HoNgHoNg 04-25-2004, 09:03 AM ok... i've got a few more autographs during the ABC :D

Fook90 04-26-2004, 04:09 AM During the last Sing Open, I met Wu Yun Yong, Bao Chun Lai, Fu Hai Feng and Cai Yun. I asked for their autographs and they gave it to me.
Actually, those players are not at all fierce. But if it is otherwise, who would you nominate as one ?
For me, I would think Chen Hong qualifies.

haha...yea, i experienced the same thing. The last time when I had the chance to meet him, I was too excited and hardly gave him any time to rest and cool down after his match. He was topless, of course as mentioned by spectra, so he asked us to wait for a moment while he gets his shirt. Besides him, I remember Lee Tsuen Seng's hand was shaking terribly when he signed on our books...it was because of his powerful smashes he used in his previous match the other day. As for Xia, no offense his his fans, I really adore him in many ways...on and off court but he looks really terrible, so sick tired kind of face after his match, therefore, he didn't look good the photo which I took.
btw, wow, ants, your best friend is choong hann's cousin? He must be damn lucky.

IF she is his GF.. he must be smiling :) not frowning.. maybe he is frowning coz she is not his Gf hehehe
At the recent ABC in KL, on the Final day, Taufik was chased by a number of teenagers to be photographed and autographed by him. Taufik, maybe he was very happy after defeating Sony, obliged readily.
Sony was being interviewed sitting down by a host of reporters but there was a "lady" in the second floor gallery who persistently called out his name in Malay and asking for his shirt! This "lady" is a 'shim' who must be a loyal badminton fan like us for I have seen 'her' the last time at the TC Qualifiers. She was bold, carried a loud voice and liked to attract attention and those were the reasons why Sony just couldn't ignore her. In the end, she surprised everybody when she happily walked around in Sony's still soaking T-shirt in Indonesia's colours.
So Spectra, if you are bold enough to ask I'm sure you'll get more than autographs and photographs or just one shirt, especially with that sweet, innocent and smiling face of yours.
I'm sure those who followed the Indonesian players in their return coach back to Federal Hotel after each evening's matches during the ABC will have no trouble acquiring their autographs and pics. Put on a smile and you often get what you want, within reason of course.

Loh,
Do u remember what the teenagers u spotted chasing after taufik was wearing? One of them could be me... ;)
*izzyC* 05-02-2004, 09:16 AM HONG HONG,
u were so lucky to stay at the same hotel as the indonesian players...
i was dying to see them... i was at the ABC too.. i couldnt sat down n watch the matches without running down every 5 minutes when i saw a player going out.. anyway, i managed to get autographs from halim, candra, sony, taufik, kim dong moon, ra kyung min, lee hyo jung n this really cute player from korea though i have no idea who he is.... i did the dummest thing in my life during the semi finals... i saw kim dong moon leaving so i ran all the way down to get his autograph... instead of kim, i saw halim coming out.. i shouted his name to my friend cos i was over excited... then he turned n look at me...i was too shy to ask for his autograph so i just stared back at him...he stared back at me as if i was retarded n when back in... i was telling my friend "WHAT ON EARTH WAS I DOING!" I missed the best opportunity of my life... at that time everybody else was busy watching the taufik-shon seung mo n sony-park tae sang match that nobody else was there except for the yonex staffs... Arrrrrrr.... i regretted so much so i went back to watch the finals as a consolation for myself.... ;) i did managed to take a photo with lee wan wah btw... took a few photos too with the above players ive mentioned... but the best moment was when we begged the guard to let us in to get autographs from kim-ra after he saw us peeping through the locked doors... wasnt my usual self at that time.... :p hope u guys arent bored with my little experience at my first live tournament....btw.. does anyone of the malaysian friends here know the whereabouts of the korean team right now? i know kim dong moon will retire after Athens and this could be my last opportunity to meet him... i was so desperate i even called the hotel they were staying to check whether they r still there.... but the receptionist told me they have left... Any informations on their whereabouts now will be highly appreciated... Thanks in advance..
jeicegreen 05-02-2004, 10:06 AM this really cute player from korea though i have no idea who he is
Is he Lee Hyun Il? or Jang Young Soo? :D :D
I think you are very pure. :) :)
Kim Dong Moon is very kind and he had warm-hearted. I'm sure he will also give a kindness to you. :) I hope you will meet him.

hahaha... i purposely chose tat hotel :p
i think we r about the same.... but i'm not into korean players.... i saw them so many times, but i didn't ask for any autographs or photo-taking....
me too was running up n down, in n out of the stadium, after every match... hahahaha.... on the quarter final, i miss taufik n ronald susilo because i saw candra came in, n i was looking at him.... hahaha
on the semi final, i went down to wait for candra after MD, but saw taufik instead.... hahaha so funny
bump into them in hotel is so embarassing... as if i follow them all the way there.... hahaha but actually i stay there but they donno :p
*izzyC* 05-02-2004, 07:29 PM Im sure the cute player is not Lee Hyun Il cos he wasnt that good-looking :p it should either be Jang Young Soo or Park Sung Hwan...I cant find their pics on the ibf site... i managed to find some pics of him but the web site was in Korean so...:( Can u guys posts some pics of them? Thanks in advance... Im really into Korean players lately especially Kim DM.. He wasnt too friendly though when i saw him the other day... but he did say sorry to me after he dropped my pen cos my hand was shaking like crazy when i gave it to him... :D Oh where is he now...... btw, candra is really cute and he has a great personality... but i admire his skills the most... truly a great player...
nauknip 05-02-2004, 08:42 PM Im really into Korean players lately especially Kim DM.. He wasnt too friendly though when i saw him the other day...
Were you with two other girls when you went to look for him before his final match? If yes, then well, it was cos he was warming up and getting ready for his match. If you approached him after the match, it was probably cos they didn't play very well and Ra especially wasn't very pleased at all despite having won the match. Also, they were rushing off. Otherwise, Kim, like Candra, have always been very obliging and would accept most requests for autographs and photos. Great taste. ;)
Please let Candra go to Athens... whoever has the final say. :(
HoNgHoNg 05-02-2004, 09:19 PM btw, candra is really cute and he has a great personality... but i admire his skills the most... truly a great player...

i think he's cute too.... but he wasn't very friendly tat day when i bump into him at the lobby.... :(
he, halim n another guy (i donno who) went out, by then i've already check out, n i was at the lobby area.... only candra look into my direction for quite awhile until he walk out of the hotel... so embarassing.... mayb he recognise me.... hahaha.... i donno wat to do at tat time, i simply stare back... :p
abt an hr later, they came back... i stop candra at the entrance n ask for photo-taking again... halim n the other guy walk off without waiting for candra.... candra hesitate awhile n look at them.....
wow... i was so nervous at tat time... so afraid tat he will reject me....
then he turn back to me n say "OK".... although seems abit unwilling :(
Maybe next time when you see them , give them a gift or sumthing.. maybe a card to wish them luck. :) I'm sure they will like it and they will have no problems letting you take pics , give autographs and even shirts :)
mirrura 05-02-2004, 11:01 PM Im really into Korean players lately especially Kim DM..
If I'm not mistaken the Koreans should be training in the same area as the Malaysian squad...probably around the Bukit Kiara area. Anyone to confirm this??

u sure they will like it? mayb they will throw it away? :(
Most of the time players give autographs , is just out of obligation. We have to treat them like normal pll as well. They know they are the STARS! But after a while , they get bored. They want to be treated like normal pll as well. Giving gifts like food and maybe a thank you card will make them happy. Trust me.. the players prefer food , something they can chew on while trainning or share it with their other players.

I read that they should be training at KLBA, Cheras, the venue for the just concluded ABC. :)

*izzyC* 05-03-2004, 04:39 AM wow nauknip,
u are really observative... I WAS the one with 2 other girls... i have no choice but to ask for his signature that time cos im afraid i will missed him like the night before... i almost gave up when i couldnt get in.. but i suddenly saw 3 guys getting in... so i ran down and spoilt the guys day(they have to come out in order for me to get in...) :D i bumped into him twice that day actually when he was rushing to get on his bus.. that time a gal approached him but he kindly rejected though i dont understand what he said( :D he spoke in Korean language and was pointing towards the bus...btw, does anybody know when are the korean team leaving for Jakarta? i hope i can still make it to klba by tomorrow... im keeping my finger cross... Thanks guys for the information...i really appreciated it... :o
*izzyC* 05-03-2004, 04:48 AM I hope candra can make it to Athens too... but his regular partner, halim seems a bit off form lately... PBSI would most probably pick sigit-trikus over candra-halim... :( btw, halim is quite good looking despite the "SPECIAL LOOK" he gave me... :D
wow u noe them so well.... hahaha
food? tibits? hahaha donno wat they like....
SOme candies and biscuit bars will do.
nauknip 05-03-2004, 10:46 AM Actually I really appreciate players who agree to autograph and photograph requests before their matches, especially when they are warming up. I remember during the Singapore Open in 2001, I approached Hendrawan when he was warming up and he is one man who takes warm-ups very seriously. It's understandable due to his age and all, so he politely told me, in his exact words, "Later, after the match please." and unfortunately, I never got the chance again. :( My regret for life.
From then, I never really dared to approach players during their warmups for fear of disturbing them.

yah yah... tat isn't a good time....
tat time at ABC i saw Candra n Halim came out to warm up.... i ask them for autograph n they give it to me.... but as for photo, Halim told me after the match.... luckily i still got met them after the match... if not i'll lost my chances too.....
u noe? i cant come back spore empty handed.... the feeling will be so.... arghhh :(
imagine u go all the way there... pay so much n came back empty handed..... :( so wasted right???
Its understandable for us fans to get autographs and pics.. but we also have to respect the players. Its not that really polite in my opinion to ask for these things when they are doing their warm-up before a game.
Best time to ask is the day or few hrs before the game and after the game. :)
floorfilla 05-03-2004, 03:47 PM Just like to share my experience with all of u here..
I’m Indonesian, so naturally I’m a big fan of my country’s players..
My most memorable ‘ask-for-autograph-and-photographs’ thing was in 17 Aug 1998.. I will never forget that day in my whole life..
That year’s Singapore Open Finals was on 16 august, so the next day was Indo’s national day.. I had a feeling all the Indo players would be going to the Indo Embassy that morning, so I skipped school just to go and see them (and skip my test as well!)..
I arrived at about 8 am.. I waited till like about 830 and was so disappointed when I didn’t see them.. But thank god, at about 9, a whole group of them came walking in.. They were naturally the centre of attraction.. All of us who were there were like staring at them, quite unbelievable that all of them went there.. There they were, waving to all of us and it looked like they were walking down the red carpet.. It just shows how Indo’s badminton players are treated like some movie stars in Indo..
And there were bodyguards too, some representatives of the Embassy.. They were brought into a place for their own private space.. After the whole singing ceremony, we were allowed to mingle with the players.. (Yohooooo!!) The first autograph I asked for was Sigit’s (my fav. player, but I was so disappointed with him after he was tested positive for drugs a few weeks after that final vs Ricky/Rexy, nevertheless, he’s still one of my fav.).. Being a 14-year-old girl at that time, I went around hunting for autographs like some crazy fan.. Then I asked for Candra’s.. He was among one of the friendliest.. All the fans were flocking around him.. I think he stood at the same spot for about 15 mins signing autographs and taking pictures.. Ricky Soebagdja was one of the faves of those down there.. He just sat at a corner and people came non stop to him taking pictures and autographs.. For the whole time he was there, he was just at THAT corner, didn’t even have the chance to get the refreshments provided.. Then I saw this person talking to Candra, and I guessed he must be a player too.. So I asked his autograph without knowing who he was.. A couple of months later, then I realized he was Taufik Hidayat!!
Other than those mentioned above, I also had autographs from Hendrawan, Rexy, Eng Hian, Johan Hadikusuma(representing HK), Deyana Lomban(no longer playing), Lidya Djaelawidjaya(no longer playing), Marleve Mainaky(representing Swiss), Christian Hadinata, Tony, Halim, Alan Budikusuma, Susy Susanti, Mia Audina (she was with her husband, had not left for Netherlands then).. My biggest regret was not having the chance to take photographs with Alan, Susy and Mia.. Alan and Susy retired soon after or a year later, thus I never had the chance again.. I remembered feeling very, very excited when I saw them.. I thought I can only see Alan and Susy through our TV screens..
Then all of them left for the airport at around 1030..
I stopped asking for autographs 2 yrs ago.. I don’t think it’s appropriate for my age now.. Feels kind of embarrassing.. Now, whenever I see them, I only request for a picture taken.. I never failed to take a picture with Candra every year he was here for Sgp Open..
Talking about Candra, my classmate used to stay in the same hostel where Candra’s cousin was staying at.. Her guardian is a friend of Candra too.. I’m not sure if it’s 1998 or 1999, Candra went to their hostel to visit his cousin and friend.. My friend called me up to say that he was in their hostel and she had the chance to chat with him!! I was like urrgghhhhhhh!! I wanted to go there but it was already around 8 at night, and there’s a curfew in my hostel.. Urrgghhhh..
Ok, forget it.. It’s all over.. :o

it's hard to ask for autographs or photographs before the match, because the players usually come slightly before their match to change n warm up... there isn't much time where u can approach them....
but after the match... fans will all crowd around them.... sometimes they will rush off after taking a few pics or a few autographs.... so it wasn't easy either.....
tat time in ABC, though i managed to catch a few of the players after the match.... but there r other fans around them as well... i doubt those pics i have taken is me n players alone...
u noe wat? while i was standing on taufik's right hand side, taking photo, there r pple who can stand on his left hand side taking photo too~!!!
i think these pple r so inconsiderate.... i mean they don mind having pics with other pple around, doesn't mean i don mind... n they r so rude, they keep pushing n pushing.... omg... cant imagine wat those pics will turn out to b like....
i haven't develop those photos taken in ABC yet... cos i haven't finish the film.... will continue taking in TC then develop together........
now pray tat the pics will turn out OK....

im praying hard... some of them are really very inconsiderate... i remember during the semi final match of the mixed doubles between korea (kim :D ) and the indonesian pair.. the crowd was very "enthusiastic"... i was a big fan of kim so... have to show some support... :D it was the 3 of us against the whole crowd.. ppl were giving us threatening looks and the supporters behind us scolded us... they removed their shoes and put their feet at the bench i was sitting to shut me up...  dont want to describe the smell... i was sitting so uncomfortably so i went down to c if i can bump into any players... and when i came back up.. my seat was already taken.. so we sat at the stairs and this really kind guard asked us to sit at the vip seats.... :)

i was sitting at the 1st step of the stairs.... very near to the railing... just directly opposite the VIP seats, right above where taufik n candra were sitting when they came.... omg.... i'm pushed to the railing n my camera almost fall below.... i'm really irritated by them so i gave all of them a very unfriendly stare.... n there was this couple beside me keep wanted to squeeze me away so they can take the 1st step.... but i just refused to move.... i mean i came 1st, i found a nice spot, y should i give u my seat when u came late, n being so rude to push me away
after candra/halim played with flandi/eng hian, i went downstairs to find the players.... i miss sigit/trikus playing... anyway i found them on the coach before it left to the hotel :)
arghhh..... reali sickening isn't it... i was there all alone... n they bully me :(

Hi floorfilla,
Such a nice account of your fond memories, many thanks! Hope you are a badminton player and are still playing. You seemed to think you are too old at 20, but don't be embarassed to continue to ask for autographs and taking pics with your favourite players if you are happy with what you're doing.
Hope you're still residing in S'pore and maybe still studying? You probably know that Candra is now married to Ronald Susilo's elder sister. There will be great excitement in Jakarta during the T/U Cup competitions and I wonder whether you will be watching the proceedings? I'm hoping to go there. :p
I was at the ABC last week too...
Loh,
Do u remember what the teenagers u spotted chasing after taufik was wearing? One of them could be me... ;)
:)
Sorry izzyC, I particularly remembered two Indian boys, one of whom was wearing glasses as he was sitting just in front of me behind the Press row, which was facing opposite the VIP area. They were very persistent and succeeded in getting what they wanted.
As I recalled, you are a girl?
*izzyC* 05-04-2004, 03:26 AM As I recalled, you are a girl?
Yup, but you wont remember me cos im not pretty.. :o ...erm...does anybody knows whether halim haryanto is married? :D
There were 3 chinese boys which was pretty successful too.. i saw them everywhere i went and they were always chasing after a player... really jealous...
*izzyC* 05-04-2004, 03:36 AM hahaha.... okok
i didn't reali watch XD, WS, WD.... think i only watching MS n MD... but 2 courts playing together.... i cant concentrate on both
i was only watching kim/ra during the XD actually :D but the match at the other court was much more interesting... the Thai pair was really impressive especially Sudket... his smashes were really powerful, leaving the chinese pair  and he has very good manners too.. i remember him pretty well cos his hand was all sweaty when i shoke his hand... he smiled and bowed (not just nod, he really bowed)when we say thanks to him... :) really a nice player...
i see a good future in him...
i really like players with good sportsmanship... during the MS final, i was actually supporting Sony Dk but deep down my heart, i wanted Taufik to win cos if he loses, i wont be able to get his autograph :D after all he is well known for his "good temper"... Sony is a nice guy too...
Yup, but you wont remember me cos im not pretty.. :o ...erm...does anybody knows whether halim haryanto is married? :D
OK, please be fair to me and to yourself. Let us see your pic first, perhaps posing with your favourite player...Halim? ... or whoever at the ABC. Then I will be able to give you a better description of yourself. I'm sure, just like Spectra and HongHong, you look sweet too! :p

nauknip 05-04-2004, 04:00 AM Yep, Halim's married. I got the picture somewhere off the web a long time ago. So is Candra and Bambang and Hendrawan. As for the Koreans, Lee DS, Yoo YS and Ha TK are all married. Now who's the one I left out... ;)

i know kim is not married but there were rumours saying ra will marry him after the olympics... anyone to confirm this??? if its true, it will be the best day of my life.. my two IDOLS unite as ONE... :)

Many fans around the world, including me, are dreaming the same dream as you. But we shall just wait and see. They have never said that they are a couple. All are but conjectures by the media and fans.
By the way, I thought Halim looked exceptionally good in this pic. Of course, it was his big day and he had all the reason in the world to smile. Happiness and bliss definitely makes one look on top of the world. :)

I hope you'll not say that again. Remember, "Beauty is in the eyes of the Beholder" and beauty is more than skin-deep! Have confidence in yourself that you are happy with what you have been given and there is always a secret admirer out there waiting for you! ;)
Can you truthfully say that Ra is a beauty in the ordinary sense of the word? Yet her beauty lies in her talents in badminton and for that alone Kim may marry her! But I also see in Ra a certain tenderness and understanding in her dealings with Kim on the court. Such intangibles are rare!
Whatever the case, a SMILE :) :) :) is all it takes to send a positive signal to whoever you meet.

btw do i look like someone of big size in the photo? hahaha someone saw me in Federal one of the days n he said he's so surprised tat i'm so petite... hahhaa :p
HoNgHoNg 05-04-2004, 05:02 AM i was only watching kim/ra during the XD actually :D but the match at the other court was much more interesting... the Thai pair was really impressive especially Sudket... his smashes were really powerful, leaving the chinese pair  and he has very good manners too.. i remember him pretty well cos his hand was all sweaty when i shoke his hand... he smiled and bowed (not just nod, he really bowed)when we say thanks to him...
Sony is a nice guy too...
hahaha... during XD i was looking at Taufik... who was sitting right below of where i'm sitting.... during WS, i was looking at Candra... sitted soemwhere there also :p
Taufik's 'good temper'??? hmmm..... i didn't noe anything about it....
but when i approach him on after the semi-final, he was smiling happily when the crowd surround him.... so he obliged to the request of photo-taking n autographs :)

Taufik was well known for his temper on and off court... Remember last year's Korea Open??? If u try to get an autograph from him after he lost(especially due to bad line calls), you'll know what its like... :)

jeicegreen 05-04-2004, 05:16 AM Yup i certainly agree... do u know any other player that is married?? im really "pat" :p ... i knew Chew Choon Eng got married last year...
Ra is not Kim's girl friend. Both of them(=Kim & Ra) don't like this rumor(=they are lovers). They can 'each' have lovers. :D
But, I heard they don't have lovers now. They said they don't have time to be in love because of many International badminton Open.
Kim Dong Moon had a lover and felt in love with his girl-friend for six years. But, they separated two years ago. :(
I heard that Kim Yong Hyun is married. Do you know Kim Yong Hyun? :) He was married last winter. :)

Isnt Kim Yong Hyun only in his early 20s? oh, poor Kim DM... :( I guess his girlfriend didnt know how lucky she was....
Jofianty 05-04-2004, 05:28 AM :)
Well-spoken loh, :)
I’m totally agree with you ;)
*izzyC* 05-04-2004, 06:03 AM why are all my fav players married??? :(

huh? candra, halim....who else?
i think Lin Dan n Xuanze aren't married yet right? hehehe :p
HoNgHoNg 05-04-2004, 06:10 AM i know kim is not married but there were rumours saying ra will marry him after the olympics... anyone to confirm this??? if its true, it will be the best day of my life.. my two IDOLS unite as ONE... :)
is it? i'm not into korean players anyway.... i only noe i read it somewhere tat Gao Ling n Chen Hong will get married if they get gold in Olympics :)
nauknip 05-04-2004, 06:14 AM why are all my fav players married??? :(
 So what if they are?? Shouldn't you be happy for them? They are normal people who need companions too... For one, Candra looks exceptionally happy when he's with Caroline.
As for Kim DM and Ra KM, yea all the rumours going on can be quite irritating. After all, they are only badminton players, not TV celebrities who need such gossips to survive. On the other hand, as fans, you're entitled to wishing your wish. What's for sure is that they have developed great chemistry and understanding with each other especially on court after all these years, through successes and failures.
I won't be surprised if Kim Yong Hyun is really married. There is some discrepancy between World Badminton and the Korean Badminton Association websites regarding his age. The former says he was born in 1983, but the latter says 1978. I am more inclined to thinking he's older than 21 because he has been around for quite some time. Moreover, Yim Bang Eun, his partner since the mid-90s, is also a 1978 baby. Getting married at 25 isn't really that early.

25 is ok cos i thought he was 21...
of course im happy for them..but i would love to watch them play...married players tend to retire earlier.. u know.. want to be a good husband and father..... players like hendrawan retired partly because of his family... want to spend quality time with the family... :) and Tony Gunawan left indonesia partly because of his gf.. i missed tony gunawan badly after he left and i dont hope halim or candra will follow their footsteps...

mirrura 05-04-2004, 10:02 AM I love reading this thread...It's so nice to read that most of you get to travel around to watch badminton and mingle with the players. My time hasn't arrived yet, I'm still studying, not working, therefore no $$.
The only time I met up with those players were the 2002 Malaysia Open which was held in my place, Penang. I was having a great time there, having my VIP pass and of course, one of my memorable moments ever.
FhChiang, Bet you are having loads of FUN around this time...a few more days left before the koreans leave for the TC, so get closer with them...know them better...haha...
Speaking of autographs, how do you people keep their autographs?? Do you frame them or just keep it them in your diaries or what?
jamesd20 05-04-2004, 10:03 AM Only one thing to do when your mum turns you down...............ask your dad!!!!......or you gran/brother/sister/uncle/auntie!!!!!!!!

tat time in HK open, i didn't bring my autograph book... Lin Dan, Xuanze n BAo Chunlai signed on the hotel letter pad... it's now in my file :D
i got one of Candra's autograph on the photo i took with him... photo of cos keep in photo album :)
the autographs i got from ABC r in my autograph book... so i just keep the whole book??? :p
nauknip 05-04-2004, 10:32 AM fhchiang, you're making everyone here sooooo jealous of you!!!!!! Had I struck lottery before I went for ABC, I'd have stayed in KL until they left for Jakarta. :p Just joking. So do you happen to know anything about Ra Kyung Min's injury? Oh btw, when are they leaving for Jakarta? Wednesday I thought it was. Ooh and yea, please share the pics if you have any!
I was at Mas Open 02 too, the only other time I actually travelled beyond the seas to watch a badminton tournament. No Koreans, no Indonesians. Well, at least no Kim, no Ra, no Candra. That was the first time I saw Tony donning USA colours and it really felt kinda strange and... sad. The tournament was mostly Malaysians and Chinese. Was staying at the official hotel then and EVERYDAY I see Bao Chunlai and Lin Dan following Xia Xuanze everywhere. They go out for lunch together, return together, go everywhere together. But I never approached them. Haha I guess it's the same case with HoNgHoNg and the Koreans now. If we could turn back time, we could've exchanged places.
Kim/Ra gossips are normal. Anyway if you have great rapport on court and understand each others move doesnt mean that in real life , both of you can be lovers. Each person have their own likes and dislikes. Life on and off the court are different.

Do anyone notice, during towel break or break between matches,
Kim and Ra share the same bottle of water. ;)

Someone mentioned that before, I wouldnt take that as fact that they are together. I mean, If I wanted a drink, and my BADMINTON partner of 4years, whom I play with everyday didnt let me rink a bit of his/hers, then I would be upset.
floorfilla 05-04-2004, 03:58 PM Quote=Loh
Hi floorfilla,
Such a nice account of your fond memories, many thanks! Hope you are a badminton player and are still playing. You seemed to think you are too old at 20, but don't be embarassed to continue to ask for autographs and taking pics with your favourite players if you are happy with what you're doing.
Hope you're still residing in S'pore and maybe still studying? You probably know that Candra is now married to Ronald Susilo's elder sister. There will be great excitement in Jakarta during the T/U Cup competitions and I wonder whether you will be watching the proceedings? I'm hoping to go there.
Hey Loh,
Another reason why I stopped taking autographs was because I always seem to miss the best matches that are ongoing at the same time.. I still take pictures with them whenever they were here for the Sgp Open though, but just before I wanted to go home..
Yeah, I’m still studying in Sgp.. I knew about Candra’s marriage.. I saw his wife quite often whenever he’s here for competitions.. Candra, his wife Caroline, Ronald and Indra always leave together..
Ohhh.. I’m still mugging for my exams.. I’m sad, really sad that I can’t go back to Jakarta to watch the T/U Cup.. I’m really hoping that one day, the T/U Cup will be held in Singapore, cos I reckon I’ll be staying in Sgp for quite a few more years..
There was once when the players were here for the Sgp Open (can’t remember which year), they stayed at SeaView Hotel in Marine Parade.. There’s a Cold Storage in front of the hotel.. I live only a 5 mins walking distance away.. I didn’t know they stayed there.. I went there to buy some snacks when I saw Hendrawan trying to pick his choice of Pringles! I was ‘star-struck’! I didn’t expect that they would stay in that hotel! Finally, he chose the red original Pringles.. I managed to speak out and called out to him.. I called him Wawan (Hendrawan is known by that name in Indo), so he knew I was Indonesian.. He’s surprised to see an Indonesian too.. We chatted for a while.. And the next morning, I purposely went there to see them and saw quite a few players jogging in the grass field in front of the hotel..
Someone mentioned that before, I wouldnt take that as fact that they are together. I mean, If I wanted a drink, and my BADMINTON partner of 4years, whom I play with everyday didnt let me rink a bit of his/hers, then I would be upset.
yeah.. sharing a bottle doesnt mean anything. :)

 ohhhhhhhhh............. like senior bringing junior out... hahaha like their mentor.... hahaha
but 2002 i wasn't into badminton yet... though i watch Spore Open 2002 n i saw Xuanze playing... but from where i was sitting i couldn't c his face clearly... i only can c his movement, so i noe he's a great player, but i didn't noe how cute he was :p
btw, i don think the Koreans stayed in Federal during ABC rite???
cos i only bump into them while waiting for other players outside the stadium... always... but nobody approach them.... all simply stared.... n yes, kim n ra came together n were talking all along :D
in Federal i only saw Indo, Chinese, Japanese, Thai n VIetnamese i think.... during breakfast one day... there were some chinese players sat beside me... well u noe, how i wish it's Xuanze sitting there if he was there :( but i donno who r those players... very young, quite good looking :D
spectra 05-04-2004, 10:41 PM Speaking of autographs, how do you people keep their autographs?? Do you frame them or just keep it them in your diaries or what?
well mine 1 is in my own autograph book... :D coz b4 i got their autograph... i used to meet international artist for their autograph n pix...so autograph book came in handy :D
jeicegreen 05-05-2004, 12:05 AM Do anyone notice, during towel break or break between matches,
Kim and Ra share the same bottle of water. ;)
I often saw that situation. So, I also thought they must be lovers. :D
But, I read Kim & Ra's articles and realized reason of sharing the same bottle.
Korean head-coach let them share the same bottle. :D :D Both of them are very calm, slient and introversive. Doubles game needs talking with partner. They played in calm without a word and lost the game!! Coach got angry. So, coach ordered that they should share the same bottle and sit in the side place on bus. :D Kim & Ra obeied coach's order.
Kim interviewed that he didn't know Ra's private life, but they were familiar in recent. I think sharing the same bottle obtained the desired results. :p In Korea, many people hope they will be lovers to see a super badminton player(Kim & Ra 's children will also play very well. :D )
They 'surely' are not lovers now. But, who knows in the future?

What time did u arrive during the semis and finals?? I arrived at 6.00 during the semis and when i went in kim/ra was already warming up... For the finals, i was quite early and waited at the main entrance cos the gate was not open... i saw the Thai team and wanted to ask for their autograph but the Thai players were rushing in (they were really very fast!) :p ...if they can maintain that pace on court, i bet they can beat any player.... :D

The Koreans were not staying at Maluri. Only the Thais, Myanmar, Nepal and Syria teams were.
The Koreans were surrounded by hordes of girls when they came for Sing Open last year. The reason, I believe, has got to do largely with the Korean craze here so everything Korean was in high demand. Adel and I have shared some very interesting experiences, so maybe if you're interested you can check them out here: http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11347
Quite amusing, but it made Ra Kyung Min, Kim Dong Moon and Lee Kyung Won really happy. ;) And of cos Lee Hyun Il, Shon Seung Mo, Lee Dong Soo and the rest of the guys who looked really satisfied and pleased with the attention they were getting. Haha. Great memories. I wonder who'd come for Sing Open this year given the weird timing at the end of the year. No Ra, no Kim DM, no Lee DS, no Candra... :(

U’re so lucky. I envy you ….. :p
But if I’m in your position, I don’t think i have the courage to approach them and ask for autograph.
Actually I plan to ask for Bao and lin dan autograph in T/C cup macth. Do they speak/understand English???, ‘cause I can’t speak Chinese.

I was staying with my friend who happened to book a room at the official hotel, so yea, I got to see them everyday. Even at the stadium, Lin and Bao were walking around very freely. They weren't so popular back then. Lin kept walking up and down the aisle next to my seat, and eventually ended up on the seat next to me opposite the aisle. They were the videomen for their team.
Jofianty, body language is universal. ;) English is definitely good enough, coupled with a polite smile of cos. After all, what more can a fan ask from them? :p Just a side note, Xia is supposedly very keen in learning English and would jump at any opportunity to speak it. It may just be the same case for the others as well.

Syaoran_Style 05-05-2004, 03:23 PM okay but i look so awful on this pics hahhahahaha i think i was very tired after a long day at the french open hahhaha :D
jamesd20 05-05-2004, 03:36 PM Cheers sayoran.
Notice he is still wearing his Junior team Kit (Kason), despite the fact he was a representative of a senior tournament. I believe they went to this tournament with a few of the junior team?(did they)
They (china team) be contracted to wear Yonex kit at higher level tournaments (1*+?)
Thanks again, you dont look too bad, actually you look much younger than in the pics with Pi!

hahaha how old did you think i have :p lol?.......16 y.o this is my age.
about their clothes all the team wore kason, they were all junior, french open is like a departure for the big event. You can see most of big name in china in the prize list like : zhang ning, zhou mi, gao ling, zhang jiewen, li yongbo, sun jun, zhao tingting...
Syaoran_Style 05-05-2004, 04:12 PM i forgotin the prize list Xie xingfang lol =p
jamesd20 05-05-2004, 04:13 PM Haha so he is the same age as you then!! must make you feel inferior, it alright when they are much younger, or much older but when they are the same age, you cant help but think.....if only!
i was like that with footballers I used to think they were so old, and I would grow up to be like them, then you realise they are the same as you, and you feel so bad :( :( :(
Anyway, should just make you train harder!!
How did he play? style similar to who....? (i know he won, and he is supposed to be fast, and that sunjun is his mentor)
Syaoran_Style 05-05-2004, 04:26 PM he destroyed every opponent and never let one set, i like so much his play
in my opinion he play a little like bao chunlai. His fast, he has a great defense, ( he beat the winner of last year 15-3 15-8 in the first round, it was marc zwiebler).
