I read news a couple weeks ago. Four Chinese national team ping pong players were kicked out of the national team because they were having boyfriends and girlfreinds. That really shocked me because something like that can happen in the 21th Century. Luckly Coach Li said it's OK for badminton players. Otherwise, Chen Hong and Gao Ling will have to leave, and also Gong RC, Sun Jun and Ge Fe, ......

Were their bf/gf also other members on their National Ping Pong Team?

Not surprised to hear that. I was told by a former national team member from China that life was like in military camp, daily schedule was fixed, no bf and gf allowed. That was 10 years ago, not sure it remains the same now.
It depends. Generally there is no rules that says you can't have bf/gf when your playing for the country. Unless if it really affects your disipline and focus.. then you will have to get out from the camp.

I think it is a great idea to make bf/gf in the camp, especially the other is also a pro. in badminton. This way, you won't feel lazy, and you can always have someone to tell you honestly your weaknesses are. Also, playing badminton would be like a honeymoon since now you will be happy for the trainning!!:)

I believe that having a BF / GF would affect one's focus on the game. One's mentality would be greatly altered by his / her BF / GF who demands his / her attention. Thus leading to distraction, so players cannot focus on the game.

I tend to agree. Coincidentally, Chen Hong's form has suffered and he has not won any recent majors after he was known to have started a close relationship with Gao Ling. Gao Ling herself did not perform too well either having lost to the Taiwanese at the AE in her XD match. If not for a w.o. from her teammates, she may not have won the WD that easily.
And although Peter Gade was much affected by his knee injury, his relationship with Camilla Martin did not help either as his form began to dip. Now, with a different Camilla and a completely recovered knee after surgery, Peter is beginning to find his form again as evidenced in the AE when he became the losing finalist.
The Chinese headcoach has not prohibited this bf/gf relationship and will not interfere so long as the players concerned do not show any ill effects of their relationship. But if their form and attitude to training should take a tumble, there is no stopping him from changing his mind!

Professionals have a job to do. It's performance related.
Othe factors can adversely affect your performance. It does not have to be a Sports professional - other professionals have the same diffculties.
What happens if your performance suffers? Do you get warnings? Do you get the sack?

I think having a relation between the players can not effort a problem, on the countrary will increase a spirit to train harder. So long they don't get fight :D
But if the 2 lover are not from the same team/group. e.g. between badminton player and samebody els (the outsider), maybe this will rise a problem.
I remember the relation between Alan and Susi when they were in love in Pelatnas (training camp in Indonesia), they could effort each other and could also motivate each other. And the result : a golden couple in Olympic Games Barcenola 1992.
So long the relation have no effort to his/her performance. Actually no problem.
