View Full Version : Best shuttlecock
Do you guys know what is the best shuttlecock sold here in Singapore?
Because I can't find a good one.
When I was Indonesia I usually used Gajahmada or Garuda shuttlecocks, which is really nice to play with. I wonder if they also have these brands here in Singapore.
I prefer a fast shuttlecock, (not too fast though)..
Depends on the climate. I think in Singapore the best speed is.

I used Garuda as well when i was in Indonesia, i used the yellow tube. I like the rounded feathers at the bottom. Anyway, a good shuttle to use here i would say is the Yonex AR-10, its cheap as well as durable. It has good flight as well. I'm getting some AR-30s soon, i hope they will be a big improvement from the AR-10
My favourites are:
1) Yonex AS 40 Speed 2 S$ 22
2) Space Arrow Silver Speed 76 S$ 20
3) ProAce 75 S$ 22
Sometime you may run into a bad batch problem, the shuttle breaks easily. What I do is buy a tube, if it is good, grab the rest from the same batch/shipment.
The shop is Ranking Sports in Bras Basah Road.

Victor Champion shuttles IMO are really very good.
But it's not as durable as Yonex AS-30 or AS-40.
AS-30 is good as well but if u want the shuttle to be faster, get AS-40.
I've tried AS-50 before but it's a little too fast.
I also tried Charlton's AG-10 and I must say they're very good as well!
Anyway, the shuttles I recommend are:
Yonex AS-30
Yonex AS-40
Victor Champion
Carlton's AG-10
Yang Yang Tatic 300B
Don't get Ashaway, it sucks!!

The best shuttlecock has to be Yonex AS-5, but its hell of expensive, like S$27 per tube.
My heart aches everytime i smash and a feather drops off.

I hate to say, but Yonex family of shuttlecocks are still the best. They are a bit pricey but they last longer. Even if they're so in bad condition after a game, they're still pretty much eligible to be used for warm up strokes.
I've used several Indonesian shuttles and some of them are approved by IBF to be used for international tournaments. I still think "Gajah Mada" is the best among all and yes it is also, the most expensive one if compared to the rest.
In the old IBF website (www.intbadfed.org), approved equipment suppliers were listed and there were two brands from Indonesia that I could remember: 'Garuda' and 'Gajah Mada'. You can get 'Garuda' cheaper, but the quality is still under Gajah Mada, it doesn't last longer. Gajah Mada is pretty fast though.
No, you can't find this brand yet in Singapore. I've been told Bras Basah is a good place to get cheap shuttlecocks. But all this time I've been getting good deals from stores at Queensway Shopping Center. Buying a box of shuttles will get me about $5 dollars off per tube--for non-Yonex brand (they aren't giving discounts on Yonex, no matter how many tubes you buy).
The funny thing is, I couldn't find Yonex shuttles in Indonesia too!!!!

Budi,
I also played with Gajahmana or Garuda when I was in Jakarta.
But since I moved to Belgium, I have never got a chance to play with these shuttles.
Actually, I am looking for a contact with these producers.
Can you tell me how can I make contact with Gajamada, Garuda and Incock ?
If you have the address or e-mail address of these producers, please let me know.
Regards,

I can't remember the store name, but I think it was "Ashaway". Wasn't the greatest, I remember this brand was once an official equipment for Malaysian Open last year.

Don't know if it's sold in S'pore but I feel the RSL Tourney Classic is right up there with the best.

I never tried Aeroplane Green, I think I need to pick-up a few tubes. MMOA Super Select is good to very good, Ultra Select is even better. Same goes for RSL Tourney # 1; it's good to very good, Tourney Classic excellent. :)

Regards,
..i've purchased the Indocock shuttlecocks before. Both the black and brown tube. I purchased them first when i was in Surabaya, 2 yrs ago, as i believe it's a pretty new brand. But i believe they have them sold all over Java(ie. Jakarta, Malang etc.). Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe they are a Surabaya-based brand. Quality is decent, not the best.
As for Gajahmada brand, they have 2 kinds. Red and Green one. The best one is the 6 pieces in a tube(green one). They play really nice here in the U.S(Halim Haryanto also plays with it here). I have also played with Garuda before, but it's been a long time.
Unfortunately, i don't have any of their contact infos.:p

I don't think MMOA Ultra Select is available here in Manila but being the higher grade of Super Select, that's logical. The same goes to Aeroplane Black and Red, being the higher grade shuttles of Aeroplane Green.
Super Select, Aero Geen and Tourney #1 are excellent choices for me as they are IBF-approved shuttles that are NOT that heavy on pocket. :)
We also have to consider how these shuttles are stored, both before its sale and during its use. If exposed to extreme heat, their flight won't be that good anymore.

haven't used YY feather bird for a million yrs
so can't comment on them but besides those
so far aeroplane black label give me the best performance vs price vs durability overall
a bit pricy but given that they do last longer then most other bird i've tried.. i suppose in the end it'll even out

Had used aeroplane. It has the smae durability as YY AS50. The feather is the highest quality. But---- the building quality is way worse than AS50. This bird lacks consistency compared with AS50. Speaking of consistency and accuracy, it's even worse than victor champion.

Yea aero plane are pretty high on my list of birds. I mean are we talking about price issue here too? Durability? Or just feel? Since I play with reused birdies a lot, on the top of my list is, aeroplane black, hi qua, and wilson tourney 1. These feel pretty good at the start and last for a good game.

Have tried using RSL Tourney No.2. They have excellent flights but not so durable. A shuttle without mishits would last 1/2 a set of 15 as the shuttle's feathers break.
Am using Finnex 800 & 700 shuttlecocks now (goose feather). Flight is good but most importantly, very durable. The 800s could easily last me a full 21 game if not more. Price is also comparable to RSL shuttles. The 800 is the top of the Finnex range of shuttles.

I play with that brand too. VERY DURABLE and RELIABLE shuttlecocks I ever meet before.

Here's the list of BWF-approved tournament-grade shuttles (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1080122&postcount=1).
Logically, these should be the best shuttles available.
That doesn't mean other shuttles are bad.
But they simply aren't the best around :)

I am of the opinion the Yonex AS-50 speed 2 is too fast-the shuttle goes out easily even with a flick. It is supposed to be 5g but almost everyone in a tube is over 5g, which explains its above standard speed.

I'd been using AS40 & AS50 for past 5 month & all of members in my group said that :
AS40 = 1st-10 points the flight is too fast, shuttle goes out easily.
10-15 points the flight is a bit fast.
AS50 = 1st-8 points the flight is a bit fast.
After a game, the flight is too slow.

I think vw1668 meant to say Aeroplane Black (EG) is better than Green (G). I like the EG alot but the distributor has stopped bringing it in :(. I might get a friend who's visiting HK or China to get a few tubes to tide us over.

Agree with that. But the AS50 we played was "imported" from HK so not sure if it makes any difference. I also find the AS40 lasts longer (slightly over 1 set) than the AS50 (almost 1 set).

Yes, but not every tube.
If you get the batch of AS40 that not so good, it's won't last a set.
The AS50 is more consistent, at least it will last a set or.....

guys I am really confused about the speed of the shuttle. Is there any standard?????when i started someone told me that very slow shuttle is used at inter-national level but later i found that it is not true.then i heard that a full-blooded, under-arm,fore-hand shot should reach the back-line for the doubles service, hit from the other side of the court.
So can any one help me plz?????

Hi,
The speed of the shuttle is dictated as per the laws of the game. You are right in the the rules (accepted laws of the IBF - now WBF - in 2006) states that a full, upward underhand stroke should land not less than 53cm short of, and not more than 99cm short of the base line.
The speed variations are for use in halls where the speed will vary. For large , cold halls the speed will be slow, whereas for hot halls the speed will be fast. Humidity will also aeffect speed and flight.
There are 2 speed values for shuttles. Yonex medium speed is '3', and other shuttles are '78' for medium speeds. 78 relates to the number of 'grains' or weight. the higer the number the faster the shuttle. each grain will add approx 4" in distance. There are 7000 grains for 1 lb.
I always speed, 3 or 78. If shuyyles are too fast then I will 'tip' them.
Yes previous postings are correct. AS-40's are a great shuttle, but a little fast.
Hope this helps.
