Those grommets were still in good shape, so I thought i might be able to reuse them somewhere. The PW12 also had a Muscle power grommet strip which was in good shape so I took those off as well!

Since my last post on this thread, I had a couple of more broken rackets but didn't take any pictures.

The one below happened last week against PeteLSD and SilentHeart. I smashed and heard a "crack" but the racket didn't break. Then I did a few dry swings just before the serve, there was a big "crack" sound and the racket went to Heaven. :p

New Ti-10, Dink? (yellow version)

I bought five of the yellow Ti10s and two of them got soft and flexy in the shaft real fast. So, I sold all of them, the two soft and flexy ones to girls. :)

I think they would have gone with continued use.

Hi Sir Dink,

Since you have tested so many type of racquets, do you prefer soft frame or hard frame racquets ?

I intend to purchase a SOTX Woven 7, but my fiend tols me the frame and shaft was a bit soft. Is it true ?

This is not a tricky qestion :D

The Woven 7 is a forgiving racket. It's not flexible or soft but it's certainly not uber stiff. It's, I would say, near ideal. :D

aiyah i have yet another one to add to this my beloved Forza Kevlar 7 has hit its final shuttle. so it happened last night im not sure how long it has been broken since i thought the racquet looked a lil out of shape at the beginning of the night and felt weird while playing but i didnt actually notice till i played singles and i stared at it and looked it over and saw the crack. so its only cracked on the inside though not the outside which im not sure how that one happened didnt involve a clash or anything either. oh well im done with forza for this season anyways now moving onto black knight racquets.

My Woven 8 has decided to join its fellow fallen comrades on badmintoncentral. *cue sad music*

My trusty Woven 8 has left me today. I am not sure how it broke. No clash, must have been a mishit on the birdy or the floor. The racquet was strung with Ashaway MP at 27 pounds. This racquet holds many happy memories of my holiday in HK. R.I.P May you live forever in this forum.

Managed to stay away from the racket breaking scene for quite a while, but did one in last week. AT300 4ug4, framed a smash and off it went.:crying::crying:

Learned something new though - I always thought the G-force Ti or (Super Alloy in this case) at the top of the Armortecs were mesh, but turns out it's a thin(ish) piece of metal stuck onto the frame. You can see just a bit of it exposed in the 3rd picture.

1x Iso 65
1x MP23
1x AT500
1x Woven 9
2x AT700
1x Cab 15
1x PW 12
1x At300

I'm sure panda can do these in 1 yr :p!

LD it is pretty durable at 24 lbs , and you can always sell yuor ti 10 first gen for money :D.

People at my club string the Nanospeed 9900 at 28 lbs , which was pretty risky for a brand new racket :D. But they like the tension :D

Lol that sucks. Did it at least make a cool popping sound at least? I've never heard stings that just pop. I'd like to hear it but normally, the sound of the shuttle against the strings are more dominate.

I don't know. Maybe it was just a bad day but he's my normal partners in doubles for tournaments and events as such. First time we've clashed in a while but it was a pretty bad one at that. And not to say the second hit the same day wasn't hard as well. Least he gave me his Arc10, the spare racket that he never seems to use anymore.

By the way, I only broke two that day. I think you interpreted it wrong. One Arc10 and a K-blade.

My apacs olympic 080808 (ES10 with a different paint-job) broke during a match in my last singles tournament.

After a smash in an important rally in the end of the trird set my handle felt spongy, so i realized that something was wrong and switched rackets.
Later when coming home I noticed the following when removing the grips. I have only had the racket for like 6 months or so, hopefully I'll get a new one or the handle replaced by warranty. Otherwise i guess I'll try replacing the handle myself using some crappy racket i have lying aroud. :p

Is that not one of Carltons Airblade Series ?

One of my club mate has this racquet and I told him that if that racquet is gonna break, its going to be at the 9 and 3 O'clock positions. Those grommets are so near the edge of the frame that it weakens the frame a lot. One small hit there and its going to snap, specially if the tension is high.

Here's a racket I broke 2 years ago (it's taken a while to post the pictures here!) It was clashed with a steel racket after the beginner I was playing with ran from the back of the court to the net to hit a shot, when I was at the net already trying to kill the opponents mishit.

The racket wasn't going to be in the way of his racket swing, however my head was... As a natural reaction I moved the racket in the way and it got a hair line crack. It broke the following week on a normal clear. Surprised it survived for a week after the collision!

Also, I think the overall quality of rackets, from the three big brands (Yonex, Li Ning and Victor) has improved, I haven't heard of anyone breaking a Li Ning racket or Victor racket, and NS9900 durability, is very good meaning Yonex must have brought up their QC levels

How did you break these twos?:eek: lessons to be learned for my cab30s :o

The first one was stupidity. I tried to drive back a shuttle from about 3 feet above the ground. Slammed the racket into the floor (rubber) and the racket head imploded.

The 2nd one was plain stubbornness. Strung the racket up to 28lbs against the advise of my usual stringer (Soh). The head collapsed a few strokes after one hard knock.

Broken but still in one piece.

Has anyone come across or had this happen to them. Playing MD with the father in law the other night and We both went for the same shot..... (hands up my fault entirely because I did not know where he was) racquets collided with quite a loud bang. When we checked our racquets both seemed grand. But the next rally he ran off court to change racquets complaining that his just seemed broken. I had a quick go afterwards with it and it did seem different. Later that night I checked for any hairline cracks but there was nothing. I was a AT700 limited edition (yes I know I'll have a fun time trying to replace it).

What do you reckon is it dead or would a re-string fix it..

Hmm, thats a strange one, have you checked all the grommets, no chips whatsoever ? Not even a scratch? In this instance a picture will speak a thousand words.
If it is dead, there are still 1 or 2 places you can get them, 1 of which in the UK.

I don't know how you guys managed to break rackets into many different pieces. The worst that can happen to my rackets is broken strings, Happened to me over 200 times. Oh, I've replaced strings so many times that my friend has married the owner's half-sister. So many countless visits to his shop.

Other than that, I've scraped rackets too. Sometimes, small parts chipped off but the size of it just as big and thick as a chocolate flake. That only happened to me when I play doubles!

Does not matter where I purchased it. It still comes from the same manufacturer. Seldom come across rackets (cheap or expensive) that have weak or defective wood handles.

Hey Al
i believe it can be repaired. if you have a broken racket remove the grip, and look for a small screw. swap the handles use some epoxy and it should be good ;)

I didn't see any screws, big or small, after removing the grip and exposing the wooden handle. Now, I've heard people talking about DIY handle swapping/replacement, but the procedure are mostly oversimplified--need pictures and/or videos (like Youtube). For example, how do you take off the 'to-be-swapped' wooden handle because it's glued on really tight. Then there is the issue of racket balance. I've seen pictures of repairs (cracked frames, broken handles, etc.) done in Malaysian shops, but that's out of reach for those on the other side of the globe...

I have not done this myself but i remember seeing a thread on BC that shows some steps on removing the handle (well at least exposing the screws) as far as i recall. Hypothetically speaking i dont think you would run into too many problems if you have access to some basic tools such as chisel, sand paper, epoxy and lots of time. for all my yonex rackets with no grip i recall seeing a screw and some are covered with a dab of glue. good luck and keep us posted ;)

The 40lbs one will be the Ultra you're thinking of. I think the trinity is 30 to 35lbs.

I strung this at 27lbs, but since I already cut the strings, Dink's generous warranty wouldn't apply:crying: (plus it looks pretty beat up!!)

Still lasted me quite a while though, very satisfied with the performance!

Of I remember correctly, you have a habit of breaking rackets, quite frequently. The only "good" thing about breaking rackets, is that it gives you an excuse for a new racket.:)

I guess this is the first broken 8DX in this thread. This baby is less than 3 months old. It's 3UG5 and strung @ 26lbs.
Am I right to say that this racket has the highest warranted tension in Yonex range? 27lbs for a 3U.
Sadly, the frame wasn't as tough as I thought it should be. Having said that, I am planning to purchase a new one because this racket has been fantactic so far.
It was not even a massive clash with my partner's racket. His racket came out unscratched. We went for the birdie. I was doing an overhead shot and he was using his backhand. The rest is history......

Haha, that wasn't the case actually :o:p. I like everything about the T1, except for the paint finish.

The scratches and scrapes on the frame head were from picking shuttles up! We've mainly got wooden floor where we play, and the halls get used for basketball and indoor football as well. So the floor can get pretty much covered up with grit and dirt, which hastens the scratching.

The scrape on the floor didn't actually kill it though, it opened a chink in the armor for my smash to sentence it to death, unfortunately!

The demise of my N50II. It happens after a couple of warm-up strokes. Could hear a snap of the side of the frame and it gave way followed very quickly by a snap at the 12 o'clock position.

My SOTX Woven 16 also snapped at the side of the frame in my bag a couple of months earlier.

Oh My God!!! I think it's the first broken Li Ning(with pic)!!

This racket is designed for FHF, who has extreme power. So I guess you have more power than FHF :D

String just broke by itself inside the bag a day or two ago. (Would have cut the strings if I knew it!)

My 2 year old Ti-10 just warped, The 1 o'clock position sort of caving in.

Damn I shouldn't slice the shuttle too much. Sharp edges of feathers cutting the strings slowly (without me knowing it)

Haven't been playing the sport for very long so much to learn, but geese, what the heck do you guys do to your rackets? I am playing with a yonex that is very old and was a tournament racket of someone really close to me. I would die if something happened to that racket, so how do I avoid having my racket look like all of the above pics?

the only sure thing that you can do: cut the string and never use it again.

As we all know, the Meteor x80 is an amazing racket. Well after tonights badminton session, my Malaysian friend had to go home with 2 broken ones ! ! !
My heart goes to him >< The first one was broken after clashing with a beginner, then the second one was broken after a clash in an intense mens doubles game, all in the space of an hour

If you own and love the meteor x80, then you may want to look away...

Tell your friend...
Don't throw it away !! He or she can just buy a spare handle from Mybadmintstore and just get someone to fit it in...
He or she shouldn't worry, it is fixable

thats why unless you are advance player , you should play with rackets below $50 . TBH , this high end rackets would not make much different for club players , you would barely know the different (specs is the most important factor) . With $50 racket you can play carefree and go for the shot more.
