View Full Version : What Yap Kim Hock thinks of China Doubles
Save and read Star article.
Dont fully agree though, I think Sang Yang/Zheng Bo
play better together.
Reminds you of 90s when China had Li Yong Bo and Tian Bing Yi
and Chen Kang and Chen Hong Yong

I don't really recall Chen Kang & Chen Hong Yong as being that good to be in the same class and Li/Tian. In fact, the lost the deciding doubles to Cheah/Soo, ultimately handing the tie to Malaysia 3 - 2 in the 92'
Thomas Cup.
Back then, I only know about Li/Tian as the Chinese doubles.
I think Chen Kang & Chen Hong Yong were quite effective in Thomas Cup
1988 and 1990. The china team was on decline in 1992.
They were also World Champs runners up in 1989 in Jakarta.
One of them had the distinction of being the first Chinese pair to beat
Park/Kim in 1988 somewhere in China.
It's true I can recall badminton of early 80s clearly, late 80s vaguely and
can remember nothing of the early 90s.
Checked my resorces, no mention of Chens in 1992
but mentioned were Zheng Yu Min and Huang Shang Dong.

The same Zeng Yu Min who is now in the Hong Kong thomas cup team? Wow... seems some people can have a long badminton career!
