View Full Version : Mini BF Gathering @ ClearOne? (in Vancouver, of course!)

Hey folks. As per 15Love and cappy75's suggestion of a BF gathering in Vancouver, I am wondering if there would be enough interest here to round up a bunch of us and rent a court or two to play at ClearOne on Mon, March 1, or Wed, March 3 in the evening? If we can muster 6 people per court, then the cost would work out to be $7.5 per person for 3 hours' worth of baddy. (It'll go down to about $6 if we have 8 people per court, although we'd only be 1/2 on 1/2 off). If we can gather 12 to 16 people, then we can book two courts and have a bit more variety in the games.

When I checked with ClearOne last night, both evenings were open from 7 to 10. But we'd probably want to act quickly on this if we are gonna do it.

I'm getting old, so I don't think I can handle playing on both days. Let's just go with whichever day that is more convenient for the majority of the people?

I'm gonna try to book the courts by this weekend.

I don't mind one at near end of March, that would actually be better than beginning of March..for me that is..

Thnx for my VAN buddies...

Currently, still discussing with kwun and cappy75 to see either CA or VAN should be a better choice for my up-coming trip (sorry, could not do both this time).

My decision will come out no later than next weekend, as the airplane ticket will be sky rocked afterward. I will post up my final schedule, destination when I finally throw in $$$. Of course, I will update my "Visit to CA" thread as well.

Either way, I am sure I will enjoy a wonderful trip, and hopefully get some good games going (let me figure out how to carry my equipment bags, and train HARDER first...)

;)

If your schedule looks like late March/early April, there is the opportunity for the

Collingwood Open House 2004 April 4th (Vancouver BC)

Hey folks. Wed, March 3 at ClearOne is out. All the decent courts are already booked. Mon, March 1 is still wide open. However, with only me, wood22chuck, cappy, and SmashingBird showing interest, should we just head to Cameron as usual and save a few bucks?

I'm okay with that, but if SmashingBird lives all the way out in Richmond, that's going to be QUITE a drive :D

Maybe next time

Huh? Didn't know I drove a bus...:D Anyway, Cameron is near Lougheed Mall (north of it). So you could take skytrain from D/T:D. Whereabout in Richmond do you live, Smashingbird?

I live around no.4 and william area, I guess I can't go to this one as it is a bit too far for me.

And then there were three:D. Seriously guys, we could postpone this mini BF gathering until later when we can get a decent day and court time. Cameron is abit far for folks from Richmond, Surrey and even Vancouver. Monday is not convenient for most folks and also, drop-ins cutoff might be reached when they get a big night from folks in Coquitlam and Port Moody.

I have had a chat with BMS and it seems that Cameron is one of few decent drop-ins around. I think I will start going there regularly as level of plays have been pretty encouraging. Within walking distance from Skytrain station, decent lighting and wonderful matted flooring, I think that the place is growing on me:p. Will cut back on Renfrew drop-ins to bi-monthly just to balance things out. Anyway, why don't we just meet there and play... no expectation whatsoever.

Hey Wwcbro,

If you can play on Sunday afternoons, why not drop-in at Collingwood Sundays instead? Cameron usually has decent crowds on Monday nights... enough skilled players to go around and still not have to wait too long between games.

On Sundays, I've never had to wait more than 5 - 8 minutes there. Don't know about Mondays though.

How long, and how much is the session on Sundays?

wood_22_chuck

Collingwood Sundays runs from 12 pm - 2:30 pm .... $2 at the front desk, $3 to B-M-S ... come EARLY!

And Monday nights is Cameron Community Centre 7:10 pm - 9:15 pm ... more recreational baddy there but not bad. $3.85 for drop-in and if sign-up for a 1-yr membership (think it's $5/yr, you can go to any Burnaby Comm Ctr and use their facilities) you can call up on the same day and reserve a spot, otherwise you have to drop-in.

Hmmm... 2.5 hours with just 5-8 minutes wait inbetween? With such few courts how is the wait time so short? I always heard it was really busy there. Sounds worth it though.

604badder

It is always busy, but the number of people is limited, so show up early!

BMS runs a fine session.

Heh! Dave, I just got a drop-in card... that means I will be there for the long haul:D. Yes, Cameron Monday nights is abit erratic at times with competitive players. Paid $7 for the drop-in card (good for one year), $4 for drop-in with card, $5.50 w/o card. Usually I just drop-in.

I believe it was the second club I drop-in since my move from Edmonton. First one being Britannia. Now it's my regular drop-in on Sundays.

Yes, BMS does a wonderful job organising the club. Very orderly rotations (whiteboard signups), limited drop-ins so you have to come in early to sign-up. The $3 you paid to him is to cover feather shuttles. Competition is quite good, lowest acceptable skill would probably be a high intermediate (high C, low B?). Absolutely no newbies.

What? Cameron jacked up the drop-in fee again? It was only $3.65 a few weeks ago when I went...

Actually, the drop-in fee includes guest fee... w/o the drop-in card. I got the card last night, so it'll be $3.65 for me from now on:p.
