I didn't know Tony Gunawan can represent USA. Sounds like the TC/UC rule to respresent a country is very loose. Interested Ardi Wrantra is not in the line up, he should be better than most of the single players.

Ardi has been coaching in Canada since late 2001, and he would represent Canada instead of U.S.A.

Looks like the US team are gripping about the officiating. Wonder if Matt F gonna file a law suit or complaint against IBF like he did with USAB.

i don't understand the complaint. He was faulted for delay of game because he held his serve too long. Is this assuming his opponent was ready to receive the serve? Isn't this a valid call?
I also don't understand the problem with his opponent holding up his hand. I've seen this done all the time and no umpire ever calls a delay or game for this.
I guess my question is: Isn't there a difference between delaying the game when you're serving, and delaying the game when you're receiving?

That's the thing, isn't it? He is comparing apples and oranges. In his serve, he was faulted for delay of serve (presumeably the receiver is ready to serve and Mathew F just stood there in a ready-to-serve stance and waited, probably causing the receiver to be off-balance before actual serving). In the other instance, he was ready to serve but the receiver wasn't ready to receive.
In Matt's postings at www.playbadminton.com, he filed a complaint agains USAB about not being selected for the Thomas Cup team and that USAB didn't follow IBF selection rules, etc. Which is fine as he and Dean S do qualify based on the IBF ranking points (easy to get when you have the $$$ yourself to get to all the ranking tournaments) but once that was granted, he basically ignored the rule about ineligible players (e.g. Tony/Bob) because he & Dean already made the team. To me, that's pretty self-serving (on one hand, he is urging the USAB to follow the rules but because he and Dean wasn't on the team and once they are in, forget about the rules).

By the way, after reading my post, I must clarify that I have nothing against Mathew F. I actually enjoys his postings on www.playbadminton.com forum board as they provide an insight into how things are run down south (same reason as I peruse www.badders.com). Matt F will be posting more stuff on the board and I think that it would generate a lot of questions about the operations of USAB and its Board of Directors.
The bottom line is that Tony G will probably not play in the TC Finals as I think PBSI would probably be "annoyed" as he would be representing the US in a team event.

He would possibly be booed by the crowd just like Mia Audina was.... thats just the way things are here, unfortunatelly :(
as for me, it'll be heartbreaking to see him as "an opponent".... but then again... how could you not want too see Tony after so long??? Go Tony!! ^_^
By the way.... i wonder if anyone knows if Tony will be playing in Olympic 2004??

Tony will not be playing in the Olympics as he is not qualified to represent the US. I guess Tony is going although there were rumours that he might be reluntant to go back to Indonesia for fear of being confined (he's still an Indonesian citizen, after all).

No doubt without PBSI, Tony won't be as good as today. However, Tony and Mia are going to "weaker" countries to help develop badminton there just like ambassies of badminton. US won't be a threat to Indonesia before Tony ends his badminton career. Indonesians should not be mad at them. If Tony came to China and strenghthen the Chinese double team, then Indonesians should be really mad at him.
