SmartCivet 02-26-2004, 07:27 PM Oh,Most of Chinese young player must play from the qualification.
But I think the Chinese girls can catch the wd's title.
springcoming 03-17-2004, 08:29 PM no latest result yet! but the tournament has already been on for a day!
poor website! no english!
i think Chen Jin will win the ms title this time
this world junior defending champion is call little Bao Chunlai in the chinese team.
he often beat the top chinese players in the inner games!
hcyong 03-18-2004, 01:08 AM The website's in English but the spelling is atrocious. :)
seven 03-18-2004, 02:03 AM Yes, this website is really poor!
Yesterday, it was only the qualifications, so let's hope it will get better with the main draw starting today...
seven 03-18-2004, 02:05 AM for the english site, try http://www.ffba.org/open/en/ , though the translation is really awful!
I can't understand why they can't do better than this!
springcoming 03-18-2004, 03:22 AM thank you very much. at least i could get an english site, but i am afraid that still now there is no results yet! even the qualification rounds!
seven 03-18-2004, 03:29 AM Yes, I find this ridiculous that they can't put the results on their site... what's the point in creating a web site otherwise???
anyway, the only results I know about are those involving french players :
in MS, Olivier Fossy and Fabrice Bernabé qualified for the main draw.
same for Sébastien Vincent in MD with Vidre Wibowo.
no other french player qualified, and no other information... :(
seven 03-18-2004, 03:32 AM I forgot Audrey Petit and Hélène Dijoux who qualified for the main draw by walk over!
anyway, these are mainly unknown players...
springcoming 03-18-2004, 03:42 AM what about Gong Weijie from China? did he pass the q round?
he is my friend's friend:D :D
we all worried about him.
seven 03-18-2004, 03:47 AM According to the first echos I've had, the Chinese did very well in the qualification rounds... but I have no detailed results...

they don't seem to have updated any doubles results for the moment...
Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty will probably be facing a VERY TOUGH quarter final against Du Jing and Yu Yang if they win today...
wl2172 03-19-2004, 01:33 PM Not to worry. I think Chin and Wong should take the French Open title if they play to standard. I wonder why BAM did not send Mew Choo, it would be good for her to pick up some points here.
seven 03-19-2004, 01:37 PM maybe they thought that three competitions back to back was too much, considering she had to play qualifications in both Swiss and All England Open...

Did Misburn say they need to win the French Open before letting them to go to the Olympics? I was wondering because if they have a good draw and win the 1st round of the Korean Open and Japan Open, they still have an excellent chance of gaining enough ranking points to qualify for Athens.
wl2172 03-20-2004, 12:30 PM There goes Chan/Chew as well.

I also hope Chen Jin could win. Probably in terms of skills he is the best one. But let's not forget in tournaments experience is also very important. JOPPIEN Bjoern is a very experienced player and not easy to deal with in tournaments.

Chan/ Chew have kissed goodbye thier chances to play in other tournaments before the Olympics. Yap Kim Hock had said he won't send them unless they are crowned in French.
Wonder what it takes to get them back to their formidable play again. Sigh..
Gan/ Koo are the newly crowned national champs in Malaysia, they are young and fast. I think they will win!
wl2172 03-20-2004, 06:30 PM I have seen Gan/Koo play recently, very impressive. They dragged the top English pair all over and would have won if they had more luck and experience.
They are something like Cai/Fu, not as fast and explosive but slightly more powerful and accurate. I hope they will avenge Choong/Lee/Chan/Chew in the finals...Justice, we need you now....hahaha
springcoming 03-20-2004, 06:44 PM Chen Jin will win the champion!
I hope Chen Jin wins as well. I got excited about him after his ownage of Park Sung Hwan at World Juniors gold medal game but he never made a big impact in a few tries at China Open and at the Copenhagen Masters (he did beat Sony Kuncorro though!!).
Hopefully, the French Open will be his first major step into world dominance!
In WS, Pi looks set to win gold again on home ground, as she has much more exp than the youngster Chen Lanting.
Of course, go Malaysians in MD!!!
Justice 03-21-2004, 03:51 AM No worries, wl2172! Justice is always around for those who works hard enough. That would be nice to also have Lady Luck with us sometimes though.
Let's hope Gan/Koo win in style today. That will give the Malaysian camp a timely booster! Yap would be happy to see his young proteges doing well. Hope this pair is cool and steady and come up real fast. We need them to do some big kills in TC and the Olympics.
Go, Ah Chai and Ah Keat!
Sounds like all the "Chens" can really play badminton. Is Chen Jin in anyway related to Chen Hong, Chen Yu...etc?
sunzhi 03-21-2004, 06:20 AM Pi Hongyan took the WS title...
Chen is one of the 10 most common surnames in Chn which make up 40% of the total population (the othrs being Zhang, Wang, Li, Zhao, Yang, Wu, Liu, Huang and Zhou) so it isnt surprising seeing so many Chens, Zhangs or Lis in the team...
wl2172 03-21-2004, 06:54 AM Gan/Koo are the champions. They have avenged Malaysian MD.
wl2172 03-21-2004, 06:55 AM Actually the result is a little strange....6-15 17-15 ?

N0.They are no any relation.
But maybe they are household five hundred years ago according to Chinese colloquialism.
I think more than several ten million Chinese's family name is "Chen".
Justice 03-21-2004, 02:09 PM Yeahh...Well done, Ah Chai and Ah Keat!
Hopefully the result on the site is correct. I don't think my young heart can take another insult in such a short time.
Yap Kim Hock should field them in the TC instead of Chan/Chew.
Go, Chai & Keat,
be cool & steady!
Justice 03-21-2004, 02:12 PM And, guys, thanks for the answers regarding "Chen". I just can't help thinking that they might be related like the Sidek brothers and Hashim brothers. May be it's just a phenomenon in Malaysia only.
wl2172 03-21-2004, 02:24 PM Also remember that China has 1.3 billion people.
You are right Justice, I think Gan/Koo will surpass Chan/Chew after this victory. Although it is just a small tournament, this win will increase their confidence. If they can improve their combination and power, this pair can go very far.
great to hear our local boys won their first international tourney. :) i'm sure they are happy and full of confidence right now. hope they are also going to play in Japan open.
angkong 03-21-2004, 04:46 PM Congratulations to Gan/Koo!
Yap should know better which pair to field in the TC. We need a strong second doubles to give our opponent a gun run for their money. The finals of the TC 2 years ago was like a “cooked duck flew away” and the doubles did not execute their assignments effective enough. Moreover, Chan/Chew seems to have problem playing doubles especially those from Indonesia and Korea. They need to regain their killing instinct fast.
For Gan/Koo, the young bloods and the coach should put in hard work to shape the pair up physically and mentally. They surely need to inject more combinations and power into the their game. On top of that, they should be flexible in term of knowing which tactics work for which team, But, don’t stress them too much. Lee Wan Wah always looked so stressed playing big matches. Guys, just relax and try to enjoy the game. But, don’t be too complacent when we are up against our opponents. (Sorry, Yap, for my 2 cents. Of course you know it better.)
Go, Malaysia!

Finally we see some lights at the end of the tunnel, right?
Hopefully Coach Kim Hock agrees with your and others' suggestions. Also, hopefully the young guns do not keep the backup-squad mentality. They should believe they are one of the best doubles now and is more than capable to challenge the world. I am sure the coach will give them plenty of chances in big tourneys.
Guys, time to do big kills!
Rival teams, watch out from now!
hcyong 03-21-2004, 09:01 PM Anyone knows why the is a (2) behind Chen Jin's name? I'm guessing there is another Chen Jin outside there. Or perhaps it is to say that Jin is pronounced as the second ... (accent?) in the Hanyu Pinyin.
Even stranger, how come there's an (F) behind the ladies doubles player's name? Female?

Finally we see some lights at the end of the tunnel, right?
Hopefully Coach Kim Hock agrees with your and others' suggestions. Also, hopefully the young guns do not keep the backup-squad mentality. They should believe they are one of the best doubles now and is more than capable to challenge the world. I am sure the coach will give them plenty of chances in big tourneys.
Guys, time to do big kills!
Rival teams, watch out from now!
I disagree with you guys about this. Firstly, the French Open is not a good yardstick although Gan/Koo does show a lot of potential. Secondly, Chan Chong Ming is recovering from injury. Chan is a very formidable player and Chew can be very good at times.
So, I think Malaysia has 3 strong doubles players. Yap Kim Hock will have a headache when he chooses his Thomas Cup lineup, but it is the kind of headache other coaches will envy. It also means we have more options to do same thing as we did against China in the Thomas Cup qualifying final, ie. break up pairs to form a strong second doubles.

Yes, there is another chinese player named Chen Jin in 1980s.
and also there is male chinese player named Yu Yang, and now he is chinese team's coach.
springcoming 03-21-2004, 10:25 PM do you know?
Yu Yang(M) is Zhang Ning's husband
Justice 03-22-2004, 08:55 AM Good analysis, hcyong.
It's good to have 3 pairs to choose from. Let's wish Chan recovers soon and will give good showings. To have different pair-ups among the 3 doubles can be positive and flexible in dealing with different teams, also to train up players' adaptation to different partners.
Coach Yap Kim Hock, you have done a good job and we count on you!;)
Justice 03-22-2004, 12:35 PM Gan/Koo, challenge the world!
