Georgia Tech always has a decent amount of players of all levels on Fridays, , Thursdays and Tuesdays...you will need to buy a visitor pass tho.
Perimeter Church is the best bet, if you want top notch competition.

Thanks for your fast reply! I will have a look at the perimeter church training, seems its the nearest, is the Georgia Tech a University Club?

there is a club, but you don't have to be in the club to play...the only reason why a club was formed was to be able to reserve courts.

Sounds good! When I´m over my illness, I will come arround for a game.
Are you also playing there?

I moved into dunwoody, GA area yesterday, and will not be able to sleep peacefully until i find a place to play badminton. After reading your posts, i went to perimeter badminton clubs' website only to find out that they aren't accepting any more players :( You think you can sneak me in ;)

hehehe...ty Sir.. I'll be flying to FL on Sunday, so maybe, i can drop by tommorow. Ohh and btw, if by club leader you are referring to Mr. Ming, then i already had a brief discussion with him over the phone. Per him, the club is up2 its brim with new members and there are already 6-7 members in the waiting list. However, i will let you watch me play before you guys make a decision on whether or not i would be 'in' or 'out' ;)
thanks...
P.S. is this the address where you guys play? 9500 Medlock Bridge Road, Duluth, GA 30097

What kind of level is the play at this club?
I used to play in England but from the description of the level of play it might be too high for me to possibly participate. I have not managed to play a game in the last six or seven years so I am probably pretty rusty.

Hi, I've been there last week wednesday and the competition is quite good. I have not played, only watched but there are definately some good players. If I need to put myself in a rate I'd say I am medium compared to them.
If you'd like we can maybe go and play at the Tech they have mentioned as they have a waiting list. I have submitted my application but still awaits an answer. It will give us practice. You can mail me at jaco.dreyer@us.epiuse.com

Are you talking about GA Tech? I did not see where they had a club, must have over looked it. Could you give me the link so I can apply myself.
I am up for a match anytime. As I said I am pretty rusty so dont hold it against me.
Email me at NigelESellman@yahoo.com and we can try to arrange something. Anyone else is more than welcome to join us as it seems to be pretty tough to find some where to play over in the US. I also know that doubles was always much less exercise than singles

Hi,
I'm just getting into Badminton, and I live in Roswell, Ga (north of ATL). Are there any age limits on playing? I'm 17 right now and I'm looking for someone to teach me some tips and gameplay. I would like to play badminton through college (Georgia College and State University) next year. So mainly, I'd like to see if i'd even be able to participate in these clubs like Ga tech.
Thx

Hi, no there is no age limit. The sooner you start the better. I am in the process of finding a place to play. You're welcome to join once we've find a venue. I haven't received feedback from GA Tech yet.

Do you have to attend GaTech to be a member? If so, then who can I be a guest under?

there are a lot of people who want to play and not enough places to play. The waiting lists and club memberships seem to be a reoccuring theme here. I wonder if it would be worth while to try to start up a new club. I'm in East Cobb and would love to start playing again. Maybe if there are enough people interested and willing to commit, we could find a new place to play. What do you guys think?

For sure! I was thinking about the same thing this weekend. I know of only 2 places in Atlanta to play badminton and one has got a waiting list and the other you need to be a member or accompanied by a member. It would be great to have a place that we can often play on our own. How do we start the process?

If anyone lives in the Decatur area or can get there easily, there are a couple of courts where some members of my old club which used to play at Georgia State University play on a pretty regular basis.
To get in touch drop kimmerbee@aol.com an email. It's a really friendly group of people who are very relaxed.
To my knowledge, Georgia State University has a similar system to Georgia Tech where you have to be guest of a student to play.

if there are enough people like us looking for a place to play and willing to commit the time, we could just start looking for gyms to play in. The tricky part is to establish a core group of players. If we could get them together though, we could contact locations in the area with a gym- YMCA, churches, high schools, or the parks and recreation dept. and try to rent out the space a couple nights a week.

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the site and these forums. I haven't played badminton for about 6 or so years, but it was really the only sport I enjoyed and did alright at. I would love to play, but it seems nearly impossible to find a place to play here.
I was just wondering if there have been any new clubs that have opened, or if anyone is collecting names of people that would be interested in playing in the north Atlanta / Marietta area. If so, you can consider myself interested. =)
Please let me know. I'm by no means a pro, but I did play a few nights a week for a couple of years, so I'm not really a beginner either (though probably a bit rusty).
Thanks!

I may have found a place for us to play. I contacted the gym coordinator at Chastain Park this week and she replied right away that she was "excited" about starting a club at some place called Peachtree Hills Gym (I'm not even sure where it is). She is going to look at her schedule to see what times she has available and she has asked me whether weekends or weekday nights were better for us.
I am hoping that those of you will join me in starting this new club. If you are interested, let me know, and let me know what day(s) work for you. We will do our best to coordinate.
Hopefully everything will work out and we'll have a new place to play.

Hi Nelson,
You are right about the location of the gym, it is near the Lindbergh Marta station. It is a small gym with no website. Imran (who posts here) and I met with the gym coordinator and checked it out about a week and a half ago. The woman we spoke with was extremely accomodating. She is in the process of getting it ready for us, having the lines taped for the courts, buying nets etc.. I expect to hear from her any day now and we'll be ready to go.
Like I said, the gym is small, we think there's only room for 2 courts, but they are willing to give us Thursday nights to start and eventually Tuesday nights too.
More to follow....

Hello everyone, my wife and I live in Atlanta, GA (midtown) and are looking for a place or court to play badminton (beginner-intermediate). I have heard that there is a club located in Medlock Bridge / Perimeter, but you have to be a member. I have also heard that there is a place at Georgia Tech but you have to be a guest of a student. We do not have any memberships and do not know anyone who could give us access, but we would appreciate any information on where to play or apply. Our email is tikpaklong@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Hi all,
Having read this thread it looks like places to play in Atlanta are few and far between. Even so if anyone knows of anywhere I can play I would really appreciate the info. I'm open to starting a new club, convincing a gym, purchasing equipment - anything short of building a room big enough for a court in my back yard (and I only say that because I don't think my covenant agreement allows it ;)
I am an expat from the UK, have been in ATL for around 2 years, use to play at an intermediate before coming to the US and getting out of practice.
Please feel free to reply to me on this thread or direct through my profile.
Thanks a lot,
Matt

I received this information from a very helpful fellow here on Badminton Central:
"There is a group that plays in downtown Decatur on Wednesday nights. They are very welcoming. The courts were not too full last year.
Also, we have a small group that plays at the Intermediate down to to
Beginner level outdoors at Brookwood Hills (near piedmont hospital),
currently on Monday nights about 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm. You are welcome
to join us."
Hope this helps.

Hi frostlich, I'm looking to move my family to GA and may be considering relocating to Peachtree City (CNN Money best places to live). Badminton is an important part of our lives and was wondering if you managed to find a place to play. I was even considering perhaps looking into a local gym and maybe forming a club as I havent' seen a club available south of Atlanta (except Georgia Southeastern which is way out there).
Thanks.

I'm a newbie to the forum and will be moving to Atlanta in a few weeks. I'm trying to find out how many different badminton clubs that are still accepting new members. I'll be staying around Decatur near Emory. Can anyone help?
Thanks

I am also interested in looking for a place to play badminton, as well as people to play with.
It just seems to me that since there aren't too many places to play badminton in Atlanta indoors, what about setting up a net in a park somewhere and playing that way? I know it would be much better to play on an indoor court. I've played indoors and outdoors and I've enjoyed both.
I was thinking that if we can't find an indoor court, why can't we just play recreationally outdoors? It's a start.
I live in the Stone Mountain Area less than 15 minutes from Decatur.
Is anyone interested in setting up a net outside?

Hi,
I haven't played badminton in 10 years, but I have been aching to play and I am trying to find a play where I can play a few people and get my body back into shape like it use to stay when I was playing.
So my question is where is there to play near Duluth where I live, or close by, anyone got anything?
my e-mail is sully@tierpath.com If you know of a place that people meet for fun let me know! I am going crazy!

Please add me to the list of newbies interested in getting into a group. I live in the Emory area and could play in Decatur if that's where we can finally locate a place. If you are getting a yahoo group together, please include me so I can get the updates: bookgirl101@yahoo.com. I have not played since college, but I am willing to practice enough to get back to where I was (medium level?). Keep me in the loop -- and thanks! --Cory

Hello,
I really would like to play badminton. How do I get into this downtown Decatur group?
Thanks
Bindu
I received this information from a very helpful fellow here on Badminton Central:
"There is a group that plays in downtown Decatur on Wednesday nights. They are very welcoming. The courts were not too full last year.
Also, we have a small group that plays at the Intermediate down to to
Beginner level outdoors at Brookwood Hills (near piedmont hospital),
currently on Monday nights about 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm. You are welcome
to join us."
Hope this helps.

Hello Steve,
I played at the Memorial Presbyterian Church Gymnasium last sunday. They play from 11AM to 4:30PM. The address is 5140 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
It was a good set of people and you can easily find somebody who would match your game.

Hi, I also need a place to play. Does this Brookwood Hills place have proper court? Does it accept guest players?
Are there any other places where I can play? I have friends who are willing to play so I don't need people, I just need a court especially!
Its so frustrating to look for a court on online forum like this when you can walk out of your house for 10 minutes and instantly find a basketball/tennis court.

you must be one of the older people i see at the courts...i'm still an undergraduate student so i stick with people my age who are active on the courts...maybe you would recognize people like Ning or Shingo?

i don't know anyone yet. i went for the first time wednesday of last week and was told it would be easier to join the first day of the next semester. so i'll go back whenever ramsey is opened. i'm 33 by the way, and caucasian so i will probably be easy to recognize as most folks appeared to be of asian origins.

Thanks for posting this. I'm looking to get back into badminton after a few years. Actually, I think I originally started this thread :D
Hope to make it to one of these soon!
By the way, about the Bogan Park sked, don't they have any non-office-hour court time available? I live about 5mins away, but I work in Tucker.

Hi! I'm glad to see such a vibrant community in Atlanta. I'll be an Undergrad at Emory this fall and I've played for the past four years. I'm not bad and I want to continue playing. Since I don't have a reliable means of transportation since we're not allowed cars, anyone know a club close to Emory's campus? I know Emory has a club itself, but I haven't heard much about it. Either way, thanks!

http://www.gutsandglorytennis.com, They are based in Suwanee, GA, but I dont know how well they string. What I might do later is send my racket to www.badminton.net and have them string it same day. I used to buy rackets and have them string it when I was in San Diego.

Hardcore tennis (http://www.hardcoretennis.net/ ) strings badminton rackets. They are located in the Windy Hill Shopping Village mall close to I-285 I-75 intersection. They have strung my rackets for just 15 bucks (my own string). The racket is usually ready the same day.
