View Full Version : TC / UC draw is out ! kwun 03-12-2004, 02:40 PM China will face indonesia in both TC and UC draw! ants 03-12-2004, 08:03 PM Here is the breakdown Thomas Cup Grp A : China , Indonesia , USA Grp B : Korea , Germany , New Zealand Grp C : Malaysia , Thailand , South Africa Grp D : Denmark , Japan , England Uber Cup Grp A : China , Indonesia , Netherlands Grp B : Chinese Taipei , Germany , South Africa Grp C : Japan , Denmark , Malaysia Grp D : Korea , Australia , Canada ants 03-12-2004, 08:05 PM It seems that China and Indonesia face each other in grp fights both in Thomas and Uber ... but it will be more exciting to watch the mens. hcyong 03-13-2004, 05:33 AM Took me some time to find but here it is. A1 v D2/C3 B1 v C2/D3 semis ----------------------------- final C1 v A2/B3 semis D1 v B2/A3 hcyong 03-13-2004, 05:56 AM Originally posted by ants Thomas Cup Grp A : China , Indonesia , USA Grp B : Korea , Germany , New Zealand Grp C : Malaysia , Thailand , South Africa Grp D : Denmark , Japan , England If all goes according to seedings the quarters will be:- China v Japan Korea v Thailand Malaysia v Indonesia (!) Denmark v Germany Looks like the the situation is asking for gamesmanship. For instance, Malaysia may not want to meet anybody in Group A, so may choose to place second in their group. Or maybe Indonesia prefers Denmark, so throws away USA match. In anticipating so, Germany may want to lose to New Zealand to avoid facing Indonesia. Hopefully the situation is hard enough so that all teams will play to win and just accept the future in store. I would prefer a simple crossover quarterfinals, for instance A1 v B2, B1 v A2 etc. That way, each team would surely want to finish top in order to play the lesser team in the other group (with exceptions), and if you can't finish top, surely you want to finish second to avoid elimination (without exceptions). hcyong 03-13-2004, 06:03 AM Originally posted by ants Uber Cup Grp A : China , Indonesia , Netherlands Grp B : Chinese Taipei , Germany , South Africa Grp C : Japan , Denmark , Malaysia Grp D : Korea , Australia , Canada On the ladies side, I think China and Korea are just too strong. The chance of Jun and Ra/Lee both winning against China is even smaller. The chance of Korea taking three ties from China is amazingly tiny. In such team events, all points matter and each will be out to really play their heart out to win. Being the only hope of their respective countries, you will see the tensed atmosphere where each and every hit will determine who will emerge champion at the end. This is when losing is not an option. ;) Especially, when the score is tied at 2 - 2 and the final game will determine the winner. The atmosphere is totally splendid - perhaps even more vocal than that of the World Championships. The pride of the nations will be at stake and each will be out there to avoid any sort of failure. Players join the Open tournaments every year and they would win or lose, and it may not matter - but the cups, it's different altogether. It is the One. Thomas and Uber Cup, the World Cup of badminton. Enjoy yourself! :) Woooaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwww!!! I can't wait, I can't wait!!! :D Loh 04-01-2004, 10:41 PM HongHong.. why not just watch on T.V.. btw are you going to K.L to watch the ABC Championship? Ants, you mustn't spoil the fun for HongHong. I'm sure the excitement in Jarkarta will be EXPLOSIVE!!! How many of us have the chance in a lifetime to experience this? If you are a true blue badminton die hard fan, and with Jakarta not too far away, compared with say Korea, Denmark or worse still, Vancouver or Mountain View, then you should seriously not give it a miss. And all this at a time when Indonesia is going to defend the TC for the fifth consecutive time (?), you can imagine what the scene in the stadium (?) will be like. Though the Indonisian players have not been performing to expectations at the recent IBF Grand Prix events, things will definitely be different by the time the TC is held in Jakarta! So HongHong, don't miss this rare opportunity. In fact, I was hoping that you can jointly organize with Silvia, who should know Jakarta very well, and then we can have a group going there for say, three days, Fri, Sat and Sun, assuming Sun is the Finals, to witness the excitement ourselves. I am seriously considering of joining in. Maybe you can find out more and get things going because the date is drawing near and getting tickets, airfares and accommodations may be troublesome if delayed. And Ants, good idea to drop by in KL for the ABC. Wonder will it be held at the same KLBA stadium for the TC qualifiers? :p libra 04-01-2004, 11:24 PM Here is the breakdown Thomas Cup Grp A : China , Indonesia , USA Grp B : Korea , Germany , New Zealand Grp C : Malaysia , Thailand , South Africa Grp D : Denmark , Japan , England Uber Cup Grp A : China , Indonesia , Netherlands Grp B : Chinese Taipei , Germany , South Africa Grp C : Japan , Denmark , Malaysia Grp D : Korea , Australia , Canada Interesting draw this time around Thomas Cup: Everyone's talking about runnerup group A (China/Indo) vs winner Group C (Malaysia) in the quarters. So my question is, which team would Malaysia choose to play? Also relavent, which team would want to play Malaysia? I'd have to say that while Denmark is always a threat I don't see them making finals and the same goes for Korea. The fight will be between China/Indo/Malaysia with Malaysia being the underdogs but somehow they seem to perform better in team events so I can't take them out of it. Uber Cup: Again group A seems to have grouped three strong nations in the same pool. I'd rate all three countries in the top 5 along with Denmark and Korea. Still not too much analysis as I think it's common knowledge that Korea should easily take 2nd spot to China. Most exciting matches are likely to be between lower ranked teams in the quarters and even before that. Players join the Open tournaments every year and they would win or lose, and it may not matter - but the cups, it's different altogether. It is the One. Agreed. Team competitions are much more intense and exhilirating to play in. I had my first chance to play in one about a month ago at the Ontario Winter Games, and it was so much more intense than any tournament I'd been to before. Crazy yelling, cheering, screaming, man was it loud in there. And this was by no means an elite tournament. Team events beat individual events hands-down in terms of... well, everything! Best part of the team tournament was the finals, where it was tied 4-4 and came down to the Mixed Doubles, which was decided 15-13 in the third set. Phil wilfredlgf 04-05-2004, 01:06 AM Best part of the team tournament was the finals, where it was tied 4-4 and came down to the Mixed Doubles, which was decided 15-13 in the third set. PhilThe crowd must've brought down the roof when the shuttle hit the ground for the final point. That is one close score. 2002 was like that when Indonesia and Malaysia were tied at 2-2, leaving the decider to be decided by Hendrawan and Roslin. Hendrawan eventually won, and ran away as his team mates rushed in to mob him! ;) kong-19 04-07-2004, 06:14 AM It is a dream and excitment to watch major tournments live. :) Having been to China to watch the T/C in 2002. And the Malaysian Open last year. Now I prefer to watch the tournments on TV. HoNgHoNg 04-07-2004, 07:25 AM Ants, you mustn't spoil the fun for HongHong. If it ever gets unruly, there's a buffer from the right and left, giving you some cushion! ;) China is meeting Indonesia in the group stages and maybe in the later rounds as well, so... let's see how good is your self control is when Xia or Lin Dan does that magnificent save or rally that gets you all excited...
