View Full Version : Flick clears.
been grilling on some badminton tapes lately. many players, esp ladies players are doing the flick clears during rallies. that means, hitting a back to back court clear by using mainly the wrist.
i find flick clears to be harder to control. the advantage of it being it generates a flat and faster clear even when one is out of position. why are the ladies doing them so often?
Probably to put pressure on opponent and force them to
hurry their shots eg Roslin's style..I personally find Titanium laced racquets very
good for doing "shooting" lobs and "flat" smashes as the
racquets seem to give bird extra kick., especially when they
are slow.I think most of top players seem to think so, besides
the fact that sponsors sometimes force whole team to adopt a
particular model.

i interpret that as a deceptive shot making.
Not totally. You will be surprised how successful your game can
be if you can keep your shots deep in opponents base, it can
force weak returns and is very strenous for opponent,It would
be a disaster if you keep playing 3/4 shots to base.
I think Roslin is innovating Han Jian's game plus a high elememt
of safe, simple shots and little risk, very much in mould of FKK
or Ardi, shot makers like Lee Heun Il,Lee Tsuen Seng or Xia
Xuan Xe just get tired or impatient and make all the errors.
if your shots
flick clears, same as punch clear?
Faking a smash or fast drop and instead punching the bird just barely over the opponents head would be effective, Less reaction time to opponent than full clear as well as women are generally shorter, less available reach.
Works well against opponents who do not move backwards as well they do forwards,
no. punch clears are not neccessarily done with the wrist alone. punch clears are quite common.
flick clear is a mainly wrist stroke. with very little arm motion.
punch clears r more on arm strength.

Good answers to "Why do flick clears," my question is how do you do one from back line to back line with just the wrist?
Please respond within one hour, before I leave for the gym :)
Thanks to all in advance,
