I believe there are more than one "Cedar Grove" in NJ. Can you provide your zip code, or at least your county?

Thanx for replying, my zip code is 07009. I am about 25min away(driving) from Columbia University. Currently I only get to play once a week there(Friday night). I love badminton, I really want to play more often.

If you don;t mind come to the city, the closest one I know is NYCB (NYC Badminton), running by Chibing (ex CHN national team player) and Veronica.
The drop in price is about $21 per session. If you become a member ($50 for 3 months, $80 for 6 months, $140 for 12 months), then, each session should be around $13-$14 range. They currently have 4 sessions (Tues, Wed, Fri : 6:45-10:45pm, Sun: 1-5:30pm) in Manhattan (3 different sites), and each one is about 4-5 hrs. You can go to www.nycbadminton.com for more information.
We have all lvls of players, from newbies to local champions. They did a good job to arrange games, which allow u to play competitive games with ppl about similar lvl. Sometimes, u even get a chance to challenge the top ones.

So for the 3 months option, $50 initial fee then $13-$14 for each time you come in?
If this is the case then this justifies why badminton is an expensive sport.

Thanx for the info. LazyBuddy. Ya, it is kind of expensive, well, it's here in New York, and badminton is not a popular sport here. I will probably think about the Sunday session though.

Do you have some more info on how much it costs to play at columbia? Do you have to be a student/alumni?

If you are not a student you can only come on Friday night 7-11:30pm, at the Barnard Gym. Cost is $25/Semester. We also have practice on Monday night, but that requires student ID.

Sure, just hope u won't laugh too much when I see my "super below average" skill. :D
PM me when ur trip is set. I might be quite busy next month, as my project at work is in very critical stage. I was informed to work double shifts if necessary. Therefore, we have to discuss the detail schedule when the time is close by. ;)

Hi, I live in Cedar Grove, NJ. Anybody knows where I can play badminton near this area? Thanx.
Hi Gin80tonic: we started a drive to increase play at Montclair State University. You could be a guest player. So far we have only intra-murals (evenings) and 2 daytime slots -- its tough to get gym time but we are working on it: http://www.csam.montclair.edu/~chopping/bad/

Hi xchopp, thank you for the info. What days and time do you guys have practice at Montclair? I am currently playing at this place in West Orange on Wed nights, but they will only have 2 more weeks or so. The place is currently organized by Dave Henderson and Mutsumi, maybe you go there too :) . After that I will probably be playing at the Mountain Lakes Badminton Club, which is not too far away from Cedar Grove. So please let me know what times you guys play at Montclair, I would definitely like to join.
btw, the url u posted is not working for me :(

...to change a light bulb? A: who cares? the power is out half the time. Thats why you cannot access our badminton pages. *Probably* the university will have it fixed later today (I hope so: my postdoc has a paper to submit, deadline: today). Thanks for the suggestions for other places to play but I teach Weds nights and right now we are trying to increase the opportunities to play at all levels at Montclair State University. I might be interested in the Mountain Lakes play though -- I can broadcast to our 30-strong membership if appropriate (we started an aggressive recruiting drive in August) - just let me know (xchopp@netzero.net).
Play:
1. Campus Recreation holds 5-week intra-mural leagues -- must be a student, staff, or faculty member but I think that adult guests can be signed in too. The sign-up meeting is Monday September 19, 2005 in the Campus Recreation rooms in the Student Center (lower level). I think times are set after everyone has signed up and will be eves from 9pm weekdays and possibly Sundays. See: http://www.montclair.edu/pages/campusrec/imfall.htm (not affected by the outage).
2. We are able to use the small Panzer gym for badminton on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:20 - 12:55 pm, or part thereof, as long as
it is not wet outside (and perhaps sometimes then). First 6 weeks of the semester only.
3. We are pressing for other slots, days and eves, with the gym authorities who must be obeyed. Wish us luck.

So do i show up on september 8th for the first night of play or september 19th for the sign up day as stated on the recreation webpage. So the hours of play is from 9pm to midnight? I'm guessing the dates for play and the hours won't be confirmed until all participants have signed up for badminton. What are the fees and how many courts are there in the Panzer Gymnasium. I'm not student, spouse,or faculty so i would be visiting as a guest like Gin80tonic. I'm a nice and decent player so if you allow guest members can i be one of them hehe :D .

:-| Sorry: you have to be student, staff, faculty, alum, or spouse to play at Montclair; my bad, I should have checked first. I will look into ways of widening this but it depends on the university authorities and there are liability and insurance questions too.
