this commentation from the 1986 Uber Cup match summarizes the difficulty in playing a match in Jakarta:

"Li LingWei has two opponents, Ivana playing to her on the other side of the net, and this Indonesian crowd."

However I think it is probably no better, if not worse when foreign players play in China. The equivalent would have been:

"XXX is playing three opponents to worry about when playing against a Chinese player in China: 1) the opponent across the net, 2) the fans around the court and 3) the officials' tricks over the stadium/venue."

what trikcs? wouldn't korea be worse? i mean if last year's korea open is any indication (and this year's WD final)... then again england can be just as bad with the Malysians sorta being screwed over (cudos to the danes though)

that brings out another interesting point. the commentator mentioned that in the 86 Uber Cup final, the linesmen were all replaced by IBF official umpires.

perhaps that's what IBF should do, whenever there is a final or something, replace all the linejudges with neutral certified officials

I seems to remember Weilun was asked to conced a walkover to Lin Dan in one of the semi in the recent China Open. I can only speculate that this has a lot to do with the other 2 semi-finalists being non-Chinese players.
Furthermoe, I also seems to remember that air-cond condition was strangely being turned off when a certain player is on a certain side of the court- this was from the 2 Chinese commentators on the webcast.

I think you have brought up 2 issues that should be addressed by the IBF.

1) the line judges as well as the umpire should be neutral
2) the umpire (at least) must be a certified one not a credited one (such as J Hancock)
;)
