cappy75 04-08-2004, 09:13 PM How casual is casual? We all play baddy for leisure, competitive or non-competitive-wise:D. How's your level of play?

ojk87 04-09-2004, 12:59 PM I play bout twice a week, and each time about 2 hr liddat.
I am not sure whether that is considered leisure? ;)
Btw, i am no competitive player, my skills will never ever be good enough to compete in tournaments. :p
cappy75 04-09-2004, 06:54 PM Hmmm... how would you describe your style? More offensive than defensive or the other way around? Also, what's your old racquet? You might wanna get something similar to the old one to minimize the transition period. For non-competitive low intermediates or newbie players, I would recommend the lower end of the Carbonex and MP series. No point getting a top performance racquet if one doesn't have the skill to bring out its potential.
ojk87 04-09-2004, 10:29 PM I see ur point, and neither can i afford a top series racquet either, lolz:D
I am looking at isometric series now, issit too good for me?
Midget_Boy 04-09-2004, 10:50 PM Nonsense!
No racquet is too good for the player. Just how much money you have in your wallet, and how often you break things :D .
I would say Isometric is a good beginning alterative series to go from average badminton player to highly skilled. It has really nice features, and isn't that expensive either. Isometric is a bit, however fragile, but it can take a few hits before snapping.
ojk87 04-10-2004, 03:51 AM I went to a nearby sports shop and saw a few ashaway racquets.Their price are considered cheap in comparison to yonex, and are all very very light!
However, i had little knowledge of such a brand, i wonder if they are durable or not.Anyone know bout any good ashaway racquets ?
Another brand i am currently looking at is proace, as the price is rather reasonable too.
My budget is between S$80 - $150, pls help me!

If you want a Yonex the prices have dropped for the 2003-2004 season rackets because the new season is about to begin 2004-2005.
On average the rackets should be around half price if you can live with last seasons colours.
Have you tried the review forum for different views on rackets?
cappy75 04-10-2004, 10:53 AM Actually, I think CAB20 MS can be had for around S$150. IMO, it's a top performance racquet;). Also, some of those top series racquets you're talking about are available 2nd hand in Singapore. You just have to look those bargains up. If you're not really too serious about the game, why not get one of those cheaper alternatives you saw in the stores? They're cheap, so you won't have to pay too much when you replace them.
I see ur point, and neither can i afford a top series racquet either, lolz:D

ojk87 04-11-2004, 08:59 AM is iso a top series racket ? i am not very sure.
Yup, i am seriously considering the proace and ashaway brands, they are much cheaper, and i will still get the fun out of this great sport !
Midget_Boy 04-11-2004, 02:23 PM ISO is a good series from Yonex, but not the best. Most of its racquets are not that expensive, except the Ti Swing Power ;) .
In my opinion, rating from most normal series to highest series is as follows:
Basic, Carbonex, Isometric, Titanium, Muscle Power, Armortec(well actually MP, Ti and AT rival at the top, since all three have good features the other two don't).
Note that some racquets from each series may be more expensive, since they are the best of the series, and have special features, such as the CAB20,30M, ISO TI SP.
vincenterika 04-13-2004, 01:19 PM Your "$" is USD?
For Yonex---
Carbonex: Cab 8/9/10 Tour , Cab 15, Cab 20
Titanium: Ti 5 light, Ti 6, Ti 7 light
Muscle Power: MP 33, MP 55, MP 88
Isometric: Iso 300 Tour
Maybe you cann't find all above models in your country...

I put a S b4 the dollar, it means singapore dollars.
Thks for ur suggestion, but i dun think $150 can get me some of those rackets u mentioned.
You know of any non-yonex rackets?
cappy75 04-14-2004, 08:54 AM I heard that Proace seems to be very popular in Malaysia. They have been around for a long time. Perhaps you should have a look at their models. What other selections do your local stores have?

SmashingBird 04-14-2004, 12:39 PM I find the lower end MPs to be quite good actually. And if you play recreationally, you don't want to spend money on expansive racquets and break them.

Is mp88 a lower end racket?
Anyone know of good rackets from proace?

Other selections? Hmmm..let me recall.
There is Gosen, Ashaway, wilson, and prince, but price only got a model, i forgot which it is already.
cappy75 04-15-2004, 12:01 PM Gosen is a decent brand, perhaps a little on the pricy side. The other brands mentioned are more reputed for Tennis and Squash.
