Wanted: Venue for a Weekend Coaching Course in Cambridge

I'm looking to arrange some weekend coaching courses for the LIBA UK Badminton Academy during June and July. Does anyone know of any good venues in or around Cambridge?

We would need at least four courts.

hiya.....here is some info:


Hills Road sixth form college:

4 courts in sports hall (1X4),
lighting is okish (i play there), not too bad

The Perse (boys)
6 courts (3x2),
lighting is pretty much the same as above (have palyed there a few times)


The Ley's
4 courts (1x4) I think
lighting is ok as well

LIBA stands for Lee Jae Bok International Badminton Academy.

Lee Jae Bok was the Korean National Champion, in the mid-eighties before,an injury cut short his playing career. He coached the Korean national squad before coming to England to coach the English National team and the British Olympic squad. He then returned to Korea to develop his own Badminton Academy, which he has done with great success.

Last year saw the launch of the Academy in the UK with courses in Norwich and Bolton.

Lee Jae Bok is back in the UK on May 6th and will be staying until the end of August. Because of his commitments in Korea, the LIBA UK activities for this year are limited. Liba are planning a number of weekend courses, and possibly a few one days, with a major promotion in 2005. Lee may also take on some one week courses this summer if there is the demand. We have a couple of courses already booked in Suffolk but I'd like to arrange some in or around Cambridge if possible.

There is a new website scheduled to be online next week. The site will carry details of the courses currently booked and also details of new courses.

Yes, full details will be on the new website.

In brief, the courses are currently geared to suit the following standard of player:

Juniors ( players under 16 )
Intensive coaching for young players aiming to become the elite player of the future


Players over 17
Concentrated coaching for players at league or County level wishing to improve their game


Club Players
A course aimed at the non-league or social badminton player aiming to play in a league or just improve their game


At the moment there is only a holding page for the new site. However, you can fill in a questionair which tells you a bit more about the courses and allows you to subscribe to a Newsletter.

Hi All

LIBA UK are still looking for appropriate venues in and around Cambridge in order to run some One Day badminton coaching workshops in August.

Lee Jae Bok's LIBA UK Badminton Academy already have a series of "One Day Workshops" in Suffolk, East Anglia running from Friday 9th till Friday 16th July. Each workshop runs from 10.00 am till 5.00 pm with an hour break for lunch ( 1.00 till 2.00 ) The six hours of coaching will cover basic skills such as, grip, footwork, strokes, court positioning etc. The workshops will also cover more advanced areas such as deception, tactics, attitude and fitness training.

Lee Jae Bok did a weekend course in Falkirk on May 15th /16th. It was
arranged at short notice so I didn't have much time to promote it. However, apparently there is talk of another course being run in August. Lee is back in Korea now until July 6th but I will try to find out some dates.

There are a few people from Scotland asking about courses. If you wanted to set one up yourself Lee would come up I'm sure. We have done a few where people have arranged their own venues and just paid for Lee's coaching for the day/weekend. Depending on the number of courts, you need between 12 - 16 people with a min of 12 people to make it viable.

Skates can you send me a PM with prices for Lee, if less people can stump up more it would be better for us and I think a few fellow coaches would love it having experienced it last year when he came up to the school of sport.

I would think 8 would be ideal and we could get a venue no problem.
