D-900 - S$230 @ Classic Sports. (You have to place order first as stocks are limted. Call 62538858, look for Mr Soh).

so far, from what i've gathered in this thread (by reading almost all 42 pges!), the best places to shop for rackets are Classic Sports in SAFRA Toa Payoh, Queensway Shopping Centre, Bras Basah Complex and Artric Pacific in Sembawang Shopping Centre....

Just went down to Artric Sports at Sambawang Shopping Centre on Monday and found out from the shop owner that the property owner of Sambawang Shopping Centre want to redevelop the own mall and ask all shops there to move out before end of March 2007.

He has not found a location to move yet but he would like to remain around the Western part of Singapore. I will post the new location if I know in due course.

Just want to share this info as I know a lot of members are customers of Artric Sports.

OH YAHH!!! forgot to check if there was a 'made in taiwan' there. i do believe they are genuine though. but maybe they are taiwan-made like the mp30 and mp630.....all of a sudden so many funny rackets coming out. but i havent seen the ns5000 yet.

my dad saw those 'made in taiwan' and he was a bit skeptical, even tho its genuine, but the workmanship and quality might be a little lacking then those 'made in japan' ones... hehe... the higher-end rackets like the Armortec 300 and above are Japan-made, while the lower end ones are made in taiwan or (gulp) china... hehe...

so he got the Armortec 300, the cheapest of the japan-made ones here... and im the beneficiary, coz i play often... haha...

Taiwan made Yonex are quite OK. Some even have better paint job compare to the Japan ones.

China only make those steel rackets for yonex.

You choose a racket based on its performance and your desired properties, not the factory location.

The Nanospeed 7700 feels rather sluggish....but has the potential to be powerful....design very similar to Nanospeed 7000....except with the new vibration filter at the cap.....looking forward to the reviews....anyone here bought already?

Hey Thanks for the info!

Btw, i just went down to GALA queenstown. I was thinkin to buy it from there.. but, after few 'stupid' things done by the salesman, I decided to postpone my shopping!
I tell you what happen:
1. They offer for both new and old color at same price: SGD230. After bargain few times, he decided to lower down the price @ SGD 220.
This price come with "choice of string you like" and "racket grip" + standard racket bag.
However, when I asked for "Nanogy 95" string, he told me that "I have to top up SGD 10" for that.

2. He's trying to sell a new AT700 with soooo obvious "paint chip" @ the shaft area. I din notice at first. Until I finally saw it and ask the salesman. oh well, he was pretending to be so surprised (oh c'mon... I know u r not a good actor! I can see that!). And then he said: oh.. dont worry.. i get you the new one.

3. So then he got me the new one, and I asked for 4U. guess what he said: where got 4U? (he asked with his 'ah beng' accent)
I said: oh well, I have old color of AT700 4U, how come u say don't have 4U?
and then he said: oh.... err... 3U so light already, how to play with 4U?:mad:
Well... if they dont have the stock just tell me so! no need to say those craps!

anyway, I probably will try artic or classic or even 10 n 10. Thanks again guys for the info!

My opinion is that I'll only support brands that have their own R&D n come out with their own series / innovation rather than those who just blatantly copy the most well recognized brand cosmetics, name, technology etc. ;)

The nearest shop near Ang Mo Kio will be Classic Sports at Toa Payoh. It's one of the better shops around in Singapore imo.

It's situated @ 293 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, SAFRA Toa Payoh, S'pore 319387. You can call Mr Soh at 62538858 / 91555492 to enquire abt the racket and also to make sure the shop is open b4 heading down.

I got a Cab 21 Sp at the top floor of Kovan a few weeks ago. There are two shops there, "World of Sports" and something else (forgot the name ). I got the racket from the something else.

They said they still had a few on stock when I bought it, so if anyone wants this rare racket, there you go.

I also went to 'World of Sports" to get some shuttles (RSL Tourney #6), but they didnt have stock at their shop. The shop assistant/owner was nice enough to order (IPO) it specially for me from some other outlet and also to pick it up for me (I needed them in a hurry). So shoutout to her for that...

Was just wondering the vast price difference in India and rest of the countries. Is 120-125$ a normal price range in S'pore and elsewhere?

I think you get racquets cheaper in India though I am not very sure about it.

2 weeks back I brought Cab 21 sp for Rs 2000 ( thats around 45$ ) !!! ... The shop was genuine and was suggested to me by this forum members. And I am sure its not fake.

Even the MP series was cheaper than I saw in most of the threads on this forum.

RS2000= S$70. I doubt you can get a new Cab 21sp for S$70. Cab 21 special maybe, since it retails at S$79 w/string in Singapore.

In 2004 (in Balestier, Singapore), I bought a very light Ashaway racquet for S$198 and also a Yonex Armortec 300 for S$320 (this was a package - a bag, a set of strings, a grip and a barrel of AS3 shuttles). After its extreme lightness began to make me hit premature shots, I gave away the Ashaway to a friend. You can still hear that racquet twang at 509 Jurong West (Singapore) :D where he plays.

In 2005 (in Siem Reap, Cambodia), I bought a Chinese-made Impact for S$40. In all, this was a bargain... I got it with a decent Pacific grip and pre-strung with 0.66mm string. It might not be the most popular make you know, but the Impact is a sweet racquet. It feels like a Yonex Ti-10 and is quite a handy weapon for fast, offensive play. As it's so cheap, this is the racquet that I toss into my luggage when I travel. Even if it were to be damaged, I wouldn't mourn. I can always get another (right here in Singapore) and not feel any pinch. :)

In September 2006 (at Spottiswoode Park in Singapore), a 'frantically-run-all-over-the-place' doubles partner put paid to my Armortec 300 by solidly whacking it instead of the shuttle :crying:. I have never partnered that criminal again .

The worst moment was when the other players in the group revealed that mine was the seventh racquet this panic-stricken idiot had broken in similar fashion. I wish I'd known that beforehand. (Evil-minded as I am, I'm not going to reveal who this flail-and-flail player is . Maybe one day, he will end up destroying your racquet too :D. Ha, I'd like that!)

In 2005 (in Hong Kong), I bought a Yonex MP 100 from a well-known player who represents China. He asked for S$300. I offered him S$100. Gosh! He was so taken aback that he gave me his bag and a lovely Ultimo racquet case too. (Moral of the sale: Always offer a quarter of what an international player asks for. Of course, he had got it free from Yonex :o.)

It was a lovely racquet. Yeah, was! :( The MP 100 snapped in August 2006 when the stringer pulled 25 lbs on it (instead of its recommended high of 22 lbs). Well, one of the hazards in buying a racquet from a sponsored player is that you can't take it back to Yonex for repairs or replacement :crying:.)

In October 2006 (in Mumbai, India), I bought a Yonex Nanospeed 7000 for S$210. It came with a deal - a set of 0.65mm strings, five Yonex over-grips, a Nanospeed racquet case, two (flimsy) Yonex wristbands and free stringing. I currently play with it (strung at 21 lbs).

In the same month (in Doha, Qatar), I also bought a Yonex Carbonex 21 for S$68 (again with string, a case, a matching over-grip, a wristband and stringing thrown in). As a standby racquet, it's idle in my bag .

In all, I find Singapore to be inordinately expensive for both branded racquets and shuttles. The saving grace is the abundance of goooooooood players :).

You can't compare..... you've got to look at the standard of living in other countries like Thailand, Cambodia etc. SP rackets are generally not too expensive in S'pore provided you know where to get them.

Compare the prices with countries like Japan and US, singapore is considered cheap! Thailand?? Dirt cheap!

Hi! I've asked this question before and I'll ask it again - hopefully in a clearer manner for you all. Dad just dug out this badminton racket from the store room. Its a Yonex Carbonex 6, strings still tight and firm, comes with the original carrier-bag. None of your flashy expensive rackets I'm afraid! We'd like to sell it in ebay. How much should I sell it for, in Sing dollars? Thank you very much.

I suggest your dad keeps it. Firstly, it's for his fond memories of the many hours spent on the courts. Secondly, it aint't worth much should you decide to sell it, if there is any response at all.

Hi guys,

I know this has been asked countless of times b4 already but I still want to get your inputs on this. :D

AS 40 is going to increase price soon to around $29 and it's kinda ridiculous to spend that amt of money to purchase them.

1. ProTech PT-10
2. RSL Tourney No 1
3. Victor Blue (recommended by Mr Soh, dunno good or not)

Any other brands to recommend?
what abt AS-5? or others??

If your kakis are not too choosy, suggest:
- sintec (blue tube)
- proace (AT75, AT85)
- yang yang tactic 300B speed 76
- ashaway classic (dark blue tube)

I know some of you will question my choices but the "kampung" groups I have played with, have no complaints with the above shuttles. Have also seen some competitve Malaysian groups in Singapore using cheap Fleet shuttles. Off topic, I always admire those players who put aside issues eg lighting, draft, shuttles, court surface etc and just focus on the gameplay and the opponents. :)

Shuttles is an issue that is a little hard to put aside as some shuttles are really too fast / too slow / extremely fragile and will definately affect your gameplay. Furthermore, prices are always increasing......

I'll take note of Sintec Blue and Ashaway Classic. We tried using Yang Yang Tatic 300B yesterday and it wasn't really good as it flew very fast!!! But I rem using it a few years ago and had a good impression of it. Oh well....

Hi jmmylee33,

there are a few places that you can buy a Armortec 300 / 500.

If you've gone through the thread, there're quite a few recommended places.

Classic Sports @ Toa Payoh SAFRA. Tel : 625388581. Mr Soh
Artic Sports @ Sembawang Shopping Centre. Tel : 67536486.
NewLink @ Queensway Shopping Centre, 2nd floor.
Ranking @ Bras Basah Complex, 3rd floor.

There're many shops in Queensway SC (Gala Sports, Chau Beng etc) and Bras Basah (Zenith Sports, 10&10, Music Book Room) that you can check out too.

Just use the benchmark of S$160 plus minus and you should be fine. :)

hi modius,

I was told that AS-4, AS-5 (single digit series) are duck feather, while AS-40, AS-50 are goose feather.

My group has tried several of the brands of shuttles you mentioned:

Sealion -- more durable than the rest, but the organizer of the group did not like it, so the guy in charge of buying the shuttles stopped buying them.

RSL Tourney 1 -- did not last as long as the Protech Masterpiece.

Protech PT-10 -- group is willing to pay more for the Masterpiece. I think it is decent.

Protech Masterpiece & Tournament -- current choice.

Yang Yang -- thought it was decent, but group decided to switch to Protech.

Victor -- personal dislike, its shuttles are not as durable. I won't recommend it at all.

Sintec -- another group I know plays with the 818 model, no complaints.

I have also played with groups using Ashaway Classic and Carlton on one occassion each. Personally I can't tell the difference between most of them, except Victor which goes bad much faster such that i cannot forget it...

yes I've read that AS-4 / AS-5 shuttles are duck feathers rather than goose feathers (AS-40 / AS-50). But I've tried AS-5 before and it was pretty durable and good actually.

I've never used Sealion before, but I've tried Aeroplane G1130 previously and it was also pretty ok imo.

Protech MasterPiece. Is it available in Singapore? So far I've seen many shops selling Protech PT-10 and Tournament only.

Heard that Ashaway shuttles standard has dropped alot..... wonder how true is that. I've also used Carlton AG10 before and they were quite good. However can't seem to find them anymore.

Anyone used CN Aplha (Gold) before? I also had very good impressions of it using it 3 years ago. That time, the group I was playing with used it for a period of time as the flight/durability/price was good.

Well, i used before. For S$26 per tube i rather play Sintec Blue [special edition]. The cost is same, yet the performance of CN Alpha is not better than Sintec special edition. Durability, performance, flight consistent, sintec is better. Well i bought the sintec special edition from the HQ side, the boss sell me S$15 per tube to let me try out. Man, i am satified with the performance.

P.S i am not sintec agent or watever. Just like their shuttlecock product. thats all! (and some rackets):D

Time for a bit of nostalgia. I remember the quality of Yonex shuttles used to be even better than current productions, but that was, like, around 15 years ago. Back then the only "quality" brands I remember using were Yonex and Victor, but even then Victor shuttles had the annnoying habit of having feathers snap off. (I also remember the All-England and FC brands.)

I have found Protech Masterpiece, Championship, and Tournament in JB, at the "Jiwa" shop people go to for RSL stuff.

Carlton's current lineup of shuttles are AG 7.7, 8.8, 9.9, and a cheaper range called Smash, Power, and something else. All available at Mustafa basement 2. I bought the Smash (I think) at $15.60 for coaching and at least it's well good enough for that.

I suspect I am far from being the only one who finds shuttle quality to have deteriorated, so I am averse to paying in the mid to high S$20s for shuttles. Can't say that there is any significant improvement to warrant the extra expenditure. Then again I suppose it could be because I can't afford to be too choosy about the brand, except those with feathers that snap off more easily ;:

See my recent reply to clarify.

i saw that $180 was an honest mistake, but i thought $200 was possible since NS8000 is $220... isn't ns8000 more expensive than ns7700?

Based on the Japan website, NS8000 costs more than NS7700:
http://www.yonex.co.jp/badminton/products/racket/ns7700.html
http://www.yonex.co.jp/badminton/products/racket/ns8000.html

I don't blame him the poster of the prices as it's likely to be an honest mistake, but previously I enquired about Ti-10 from Artric based on prices posted on Badmintoncentral which again turned out to be incorrect. Whereas when I enquired from Classic about prices quoted here, the price was correct...

I don't know whether some people who post prices here think it's some sort of competiton where who posts the lowest price wins... if you buy something, there's always someone saying... wah so expensive, i can get it cheaper at XXX place....

I have done that for digital camera. In a local camera forum, someone posted that the a particular shop has a special promo price for members of the forum, just quote the name of the forum/poster.

If people are simply sharing prices they can get as regulars, than it seems like 'showing off' that you can get low prices others cannot get rather than a genuine attempt to help the community.

This is not an attack against the poster as everyone has explained that it's a honest mistake :)

Speaking only for myself, I am not posting my replies as some form of competition or for egoistical self-glorification. I don't know if people want to consider me a "regular" because I really have only been back in Spore for six months after being away for eight years. All I try to do is to be friendly to the shopowners and respect that they are trying their best to run their own small businesses.

Here's a chronology of why I wanted more clarification on the NS7700's price:

1) I visited 10&10 at Bras Basah just before the end of 2006. I asked them "what's new?" and they mentioned the NS7700. I took a look at the racket and saw the modification Yonex did to the cone of the handle, thought it was interesting, so asked them how much. Lady boss told me S$250.

2) I read the post by Lobber which listed the price at Artric as S$180. I thought it's probably a mistake, honest mistake.

3) I don't think either Artric or 10&10 benefit from prices that are erroneously quoted too high or too low. I mean, someone can say to Mr Lim "how come you quote me so much higher than S$180?" or someone can say to Ms Teo "why you sell so much more expensive than elsewhere?"

4) So I asked for clarification. I call up Mr Lim and Ms Teo.

If there is indeed a competition going on, please let me know. I happily withdraw from a competition I never knew I was part of. Cheers.

Like i said i'm not making any personal attack against anyone.

But perhaps persons asking for prices in the future should also ask, as a service to others, whether the shop will honour the prices if others should ask for the same price, or whether this is just a super special price for special customers.

Like I said, I have no problem with Classic or 10n10. Prices quoted by people mentioned in Badminton Central are consistent with what the shopkeeper/owner quotes for Classic and 10n10. I have no idea why there is a problem with Artric where the shopowner quotes me different price from what others mention.

i think artric does give better prices to regulars. perhaps you can ask the regulars (who quote the price) to help you buy or maybe go together. :p

He's using a Carbonex 20.
I suspect he has somehow inserted titanium steel in its frame.
(The guy works in construction.)

I have a nasty feeling he's being paid by the sales-mafia to destroy racquets. (I must find out where else he plays.)

Also, he wields it like a machete, not like a paddle. :(
Court Criminal.

After losing a Yonex Armortec and a Yonex Nanospeed to an 'on-court maniac bent on vandalism', I went out and bought an Impact NanoForce 8 for just S$60 (free string, stringing and grip... all high quality). I played with it yesterday... and boy, it's superb. :D

Anyone wants my MP100?
Sep 2004 make, BG65 at 25lbs, new Pacific Smash Grip. The racquet looks brand new and has been very very sparingly used.
If you'd like to have it for S$135 (FOB my place), send me a PM.
Please don't call to bargain. :p

No, I bought it from someone most Singaporean players know personally.
Mr Ng Han.
He has Impact racquets (this is the fourth one I've bought from him in the last two years), Protech shuttles and other gear. He also plays a mean game of high-level badminton. (I'm sure you know him too.)
The racquet I bought is lighter than my 3U MP100. :)

Hi - kinda new here. Anyway - I just got back from Bras Basah coz I wanted to buy an AT500. 10n10 out of stock ... Ranking selling it at S$225. I thought this racket is only about S$160 ?

_MyST_Spring

I have never been to Ranking Sports, but for AT500, S$225 must be overpriced. AT700 should be around 200 and AT800 should be around 220 only.

Getting from shopping malls in town area is ridiculous.

Please don't be lazy and read through the thread again to know the huge price differences. The nearest / cheapest place in town area will be Bras Basah Complex (Ranking, Zeneith, 10&10, Music Book Room).

Prices are way cheaper than World of Sports, SportsLink etc.

Other places include:
Queensway Shopping Centre (Many shops: Gala Sports, Chau Beng, New Link etc)
Classic Sports @ Toa Payoh SAFRA
Artic Sports @ Sembawang Shopping Centre

im not a singaporean citizen and i don't go to singapore much. it wouldnt be convenient to travel out of town area to get a racket after you take into account the taxi fares, time and energy you use. thus, i would need your help to tell me the best place to buy.
btw, my location is parkroyal plaza, beside the furniture mall (the concourse) or near the Raffles hospital (at least thats what i can see from here)
where is Queensway shopping centre? or is there somewhere nearer etc. thanks y'all.

Hi llpjlau, there is definitely a much much nearer place for u to go to...and its directly in the middle of the city area!!! :D .. its at Bras Basah Complex. I wun suggest to u about taking bus from yr hotel.. as there is no direct bus from outside your hotel.. need to walk a distance away. Hence, i will suggest to u to take a cab.. shld not exceed S$4-S$5 during off-peak hours. There are 3 shops over there... both Zenith Sports and Ranking Sports are at the 3rd floor.. and 10&10 is at the ground floor. I will suggest u go to Ranking on the 3rd floor. May i know wat NS series are u looking for??? 7000? 8000? 9000??? :p At least will make it easier for us to quote u prices at the shops if we knew. ;)

Your location is close to Bras Basah Complex which is next to the new National Library/walking distance from Bugis Junction/opposite Raffles Hotel. If you are in Orchard area, Queensway Shopping Centre is a short 15mins taxi ride away or take bus no. 123. Enjoy your stay in Singapore. Cheers

I think you are pretty near to Bras Basah Complex (http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel.php?travel_id=928&travel_site=12997).

btw, i'm probably looking for NS 6000 or 7000 or 7700, nothing more than a 8000. ;)

btw, what other brands are there in Bras Basah Complex? any suggestions?
also, what's in the Complex? anything else other than those 3 stores?

I will suggest u go to Ranking on the 3rd floor.

tell him national library as most of them should know where.
It just a short walk(<5min).

10n10 on the first floor tend to persuade you to purchase proace, apacs rather than yonex.

search around, many had complaint about the lady boss and the boss himself is somehow inpatient.
the rest of the whole complex is all books and musical stuff.

Hi llpjlau, i am not really sure about Ranking prices as i seldom frequent the shop. But in general barring those prices from big sports retail stores.... prices are thereabout for NS5000- S$180, NS7000-S$200, NS7700-S$240, NS8000-S$220-S$230 and NS9000-S$248-S$260.... so any prices around there for your racket will be an ideal buy, thou u shld always try to bargain when u are buying at Bras Basah Complex and Queensway S.C. ;) Here is Ranking number : 63367887.. u can call them for any enquiries. :)

Forgot to post - got an MP100 at Classic Sports for S$170 - with bag, string (I chose BG80) and Grip. They also have an MP88 for S$150. Not sure if this is the lowest price.

Anyway as a comparison - the MP88 was S$180 at both 10n10 and Ranking. I think can negotiate at 10n10 since the boss hinted that if I really want it he can give a good price.

As for Ranking - I just want to add my experience. When I went there and saw the S$225 tag at the AT500 racket (as I posted earlier) - I asked this "auntie" how much it is - I thought it was like the Queensway shops wherein the shoes have a tag price but when you ask they will quote a lower price. This "auntie" - in an impatient tone bordering on rude said - "Price tag on the racket - cannot see ah." Suffice to say - I lost the will to "negotiate" or to basically buy anything form their shop. This AT500 was even pre-strung unlike those in Classic sports and 10n10 wherein they string it for you (your choice of string, your tension).
Anyway - enough rant :D .. I won't be returning to Ranking sports forever and will never recommend them to my friends.

hi all ! im currently looking for a new yonex racket and was wondering wat are the current prices of the following rackets im thinking of buying .

armortec 800 defensive(is it really fragile as someone here quoted?)
mp90
nanospeed 7000(another fragile racket, my th version broke at the 3 oclock position only after a slight crash but love the fast reaction of it )
nanospeed 8000
nanospeed 6000/7700/5000
tks in advance guys :)

p.s. just went to ranking sports today n met one aunty who acts really friendly but did not give any discounted price on any racket i ask about. she said " oh , u can look at the price tag and we use $10 plus string. we dont really mark up our price too much ....." and thats all she said. haha... .. i rem when i went in the other time, she straight away gave me discounts . lol. talk about "moody" selling. hmm wat if some tv stars start coming in ...wonder wat she will say :D

Maybe Auntie had a bad day went I went there - i arrived around 7+ pm and it was raining  ... anyway - I'll still patrionize Classic sports next time - the only problem I see with them is the number of rackets - not much - like if I remember correctly they only had 1 NS-type Yonex (I think the NS7000), no MP99, no AT500 / 800 - so you guys might wanna call first to confirm stock :D ..

to seanboi - got the MP100 for S$170 last Jan. 21

gala sports again haha. u have to bargain with the " black" face guy who dont know wat customer service is.

had some rough experience there when i strung my tennis racket there. the stringing sucks big time also. i want tension 60pds, they strung it like 56 pds. sigh. i once asked about the price of a tennis racket through the phone and he said. " sorry i dont quote price on the phone. u wana see n know the price please come down personally " ok fine, so then i told him that i live like in the north east n to travel all the way to queensway just to know the price of the racket? its like very troublesome for me. so i ask him if he can at least quote some rough pricing for me. he said " if u are REALLY INTERESTED in the racket, u wont mind coming down even if its far right? sorry, i cant quote any general pricing. u have to come down! " i was like wat the ?!!!, u are not the only racket store in singapore !!! grrrw...

tats the last straw for me. fed up and filled with bad aftertaste after this encounter. classic sports sounds so much better sia although i haven tried buying there as all u guys are always talking how nice is mr soh ;)

Modious told me that it's cheaper to go to Classic Sports. Problem is, I've no idea where it is. I usually go to the one closer to my office. If I wanna get next racket, I'll go to Classic since I heard is way cheaper than Gala and better service too :)

if you dont intend to go to toa payoh, you can give gala a go. look for young chap, named kevon. he gives better service than grouchy old man. they carry several brand of rackets, but im not sure if they have apacs.

Just happen to come across this sports shop at 280 macpherson road selling these Yonex 2007 T-shirts at a very good price. The shop is called SPORTSMASTER. It is located opposite a SHELL petrol station beside CENCON building. Rackets and shuttlecocks are reasonably priced ranging from YONEX, PROACE, APACS, VICTOR, IMPACT and SILVERGREY. Racket restringing is also available. To avoid any disappointment, you can call the shop at 67491173 for stock enquiries or order before going down because the stocks are always running out. When Sunrise advertised the new range of 2007 Yonex tops, they listed SportsLink, 10&10 and Chua Beng (at Queensway) as their official retailers, so I guess these places will have to sell at the same price officially dictated by Sunrise (unless they are willing to give you discount off the record).

Hi. Sorry, but i haven't been updating myself here for the past few months, due to academic obligations.:o So, i'd like to know what's the cheapest price i can get a new Ti-10 (old version) for. Only old version of Ti-10. I've been after that racket for years, but never had enough money. However, now i have. So please tell me. Actually i'm quite scared that it won't be available anymore.:( So, if ya guys know any information on Ti-10, please tell me. Any info regarding it will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

If you don't mind the sky high price, the 3U version is still available at Sportslink. $229.
