simplelad 05-04-2004, 09:46 PM Hi all
Was thinking of a price checklist for all s'pore badminton enthusiasts who have been scounting around for the best offer. Thought that this might be a good practice for eveyone to avoid "robbed" in paying more than the market price.

simplelad 05-05-2004, 11:09 PM Good idea, but the shop with the lower price will thank us, and the "black & Extortion" shop will ban us.. hahaha :D

Cos I keep hearing people saying that they can get certain rackets at such low prices but when we ask them, they don't say where they can them.
And hey! I can get the Armortech 800 OF at just S$180... but I'm not telling where and how. ;)

People don't tell beause of two main reasons, the first is they made that up, secondly, they don't want you to have them. Thats seems to be the norm here. So far, I have posted the name of the shop in Singapore I got my stuff from. When I have more info and it is genuine, I will posted them to piss others off.
I mean for god sake, it is not like you are buying up the whole shop, that is just so stupid, an even if you are, you come to the wrong place.:D :D
armortec800 05-08-2004, 09:55 AM As a newbie, I searched the forum and I found them discussed before.
The poster originally asked for prices and not places, which should serves as a summary.
Queensway Shopping Centre and Bras Basah Complex are more famous places to shop for sports goods and the latter is famous for books (book city to the locals), but also sports goods due to its cheaper place to operate business. Bras Basah shops are located inside public housing (HDB), and hence the rentals are lower.
The shops and racket prices were already discussed here:
http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4976&highlight=MP+100+prices+Singapore
The poster happily bought MP100 at $170 each which proved we did not made it up. And for me I bought a fully stringed and gripped new MP100 for $169 on the ground floor (10+10), however, Ranking Sports on the third floor can easily matched it and the lady is more honest IMHO. I should have gone there if not because it is closed on Sundays.
Armortec 700 for $230 from Queensway's Gala Sports.
Use the prices as a guide as it might fluctuate, due to shop's marketing, supply and demand or clearance strategies.
If you are in Singapore, anyone here may extend you a hand to guide you to those shops.

I found the shop in Singapore by accident, other shops were suggested by people on the street. I like to start my legwork with the phone, before I reach cities I am visiting. Names of building are meaningless:eek:
No offence, but I have no idea where Windsor in Japan is either. Japanses has many cities and perfectures and not knowing how to speak Japanese is another problem.:D :D :D
mongoose 05-08-2004, 10:17 AM I have heard several people say (in many previous posts) that you can get MP100 for less than S$150, MP77 for S$115, Ti10 for S$140, Cab20 for S$80, Cab20Power for S$99 etc etc etc.
I have gone to probably all the badminton shops in Singapore and I have yet to find those rackets sold at the prices stated.
Are those prices retail prices? Or are they "special" prices meant for partial "sponsored" players etc?
Cos it doesn't help at all saying, for example, that the price of an MP100 is S$150 if I cannot walk into that same shop and get it at that price.
What the posters here want to know are the retail prices.
Btw if you read my previous post, you should be able to understand that I made up the price of the AT800OF just to prove my point. :D

As far as I can tell, I was the only one posting here early last month of my purchasing the Cab20 Power at S$99. Unless proven wrong, that was the only quotation here.
I can also tell you that I am not after 200 pieces of each of these rackets, so giving dealer prices are just as stupid as well.
But I can tell you I paid S$4.60 for 30 packets of BG85 strings, SP version, if that means anything. That I cannot remember where I bought because I was too busy bargaining and I don't remember the shop as I was rushing for time. I must add I am a good shopper, I quote the Cab 20 Power higher than the price I paid, otherwise people might think its is faked. :D :D :D
mongoose 05-08-2004, 07:33 PM Wow! You struck a really great bargain! :D
Most shops sell the Cab20Power for more than S$150.
Hmmm... looks like its time to do more shopping and racket hunting again... hehe! :p

Really? S$4.60 for 30 packets of BG85 SP version? That works out to about S$0.15 per packet. It doesn' look right.

You have to consider that, what if I tell you the price and the location of the shop, what if you can NOT get that price?? what would you feel about it?
(That's one of the reasons that I never reveal any prices or shops)
Sometimes shops are just running the promotion prices. You can not guarantee the price that the one will get 100%. So why not just keep it down, and if you really want to know the details, you can always PM the person in privately talks.
bluejeff 05-08-2004, 11:12 PM From what I have heard, Singapore is a very organized city. Perhaps yellowpages would have all the informations about the shop??
By the way, the price of the MP100 is lower than 88?? wow....

Shop details to me are more important than the price. Prices depend on bargaining power.:D Thanks for the offer, but I have enough rackets to last a life time, assuming they are not biodegradable.:D
armortec800 05-09-2004, 01:05 AM Can you check your receipt and let us know which shop ?
I bought the CAB 20 SP for my friend $90 (Ranking Sports with stock Yonex prestrung string) 1.5 months ago in Ranking Sports. And no more stock as far as I know.
Seems like you have good luck to depend on the man in the street than this forum. :D

What do you mean by shop details? Do you mean shop directory?
By the way, it is not easy to bargain, some shops will not sell lower. Example the Gala sports sells MP100 for $190 no matter how I bargain. In the end I have to buy 2 sets from 10+10, promised me a load **** but never fulfilled. Therefore I preferred Ranking Sports Basah Complex.
armortec800 05-09-2004, 01:14 AM if you need the address and telephone and the place type in the shop name, then there is a location map and you key in the postal code, you will see the locality map.

Too little too late. It is now irrelevant !!! :D
ojk87 05-09-2004, 02:56 AM I believe we ask for the location because at least we know that particular shop will push it price down to the price.
And in singapore there is not much badminton shop you can bargain. I think only peni, queensway and bras basah.

Peni, as in Pennisula?, I did a search prior and nothing show up. :D
aryrius 05-09-2004, 09:54 AM http://www.streetdirectory.com.sg/index.jsp
for the place.. think yellow pages quite useless for this.
there are lotsa of smaller shops that sell as well not just the places like bras basah or queensway
theres a shop in sembawang shopping centre for eg. thats deals with a variety of stocks n is bargainable
there is also tall lanky guy who looks like a former national player who has a shop at the ang mo kio central wet market who does stringing, as well as a shop in the heartlands near the bedok stadium.
theses shop are open by people who love the game i think.
somehow i prefer these shops as there r less people, u can chat with the owner, he will tell which stuff are good n if u get a good rapport u can bargain better
simplelad 05-09-2004, 08:34 PM Hi guys
Thanks so much for the contributions, have been looking around and realize that the prices in Singapore are not very competitive, which is why i started the thread.:D
I am just guessing that if shops of a same shopping mall could have under a secret agreement as "not to push prices down too much", which will affect their profits earning.
I have been getting rackets and sports apparels from a shop in Batu Pahat, Johore state. The boss is a friend of my relative. Had some talks with him and seems that he was supplying rackets to Queensway shops.
Have told him to fax me a price list (popular rackets like MP100, MP99, Ti 10, Gosen MPP 5300, other Gosen rackets, Apacs Armorpower and powerconcept series, Fleet and Carlton rackets.
Will upload the price once i have gotten the fax him. I will still be buying from him when i make trips to BP.
taneepak 05-09-2004, 09:50 PM If the Queensway shops in Singapore buy their racquets from a small town in Malaysia (Batu Pahat), then there must be more similar traffic in other goods, commodities and even services from Johore Bahru.
simplelad 05-09-2004, 11:08 PM I know where u are coming from, but the prices is somehow different when I make a comparison.. thou is onli a RM5-10 different...SIN $2.50 - $5...and plus that he is kinda competitive player, he offers me some valuable advices...:)

msenghl 05-13-2004, 08:23 AM Name of the shop is Sintec, so of course pushing hard for Sintec products, I find the prices for Yonex products a little bit on the high side.
tir168 07-02-2004, 12:13 AM anyone can tell me the price of a CAB 30 MS in singapore? And where you got the prices from? Thanks in adv. :D
shindeia 07-02-2004, 03:32 AM What's the cheapest price you guys can get for MP99? I guess the market rate is $220. Anyone bought it at a cheaper price in singapore?
Woven 10-30-2004, 07:13 AM hi guys,
ill be going to singapore in a few weeks time, so i was wondering if any1 here can tell me the following questions
- since this thread was posted around 1/2 year ago, how much at700 and at800 cost now?? from what i've read in this thread, it stated that at700 (TH version) cost $230, but how much does the SP version cost.
- am i right to assume that ranking sport in bras basah sells cheaper than the shop in queensway?
- and lastly how much does stringing cost in queensway? (is it cheaper if we provide the string or do they string it for free if i buy the string from them?)
thx in advance

Think he is better with tennis rackets - the last string job he did was well .. doubtful
shawn30_k 12-03-2004, 04:08 AM nt as lucky as me rite.could any stringers explain 2 me how this happen.i told my coach to string my racket and he brought it to the 10n10 shop.i only merely requested 4 him 2 string a apacs ti string.but when i examined the string closely i saw tt part of it is a yonex bg66 ti string.so both strings were miexed together in my racket.any explanation how this can happen:confused:

shawn30_k 12-04-2004, 09:01 AM really but pity i cnt get those rackets at a cheaper rate.both of them somemore.im more inclined to the apacs and proace that side.they have good racquets, believe me. i once owned the amorace 700 before and my friend liked it so much that he bought from me...

ymerej 12-10-2004, 09:10 AM I just got a MP99 3U/G5 TH version. Looked everywhere, and found prices to be ranging from around 199-205 with strings n grip. I checked out Gala sports at Queensway, Zenith Sports and that book shop on the ground floor at Bras Basah. Ranking and 10/10 only have the 2U version. The cheapest I found the 3U/G5 SP version is 220 strung at Queensway. Cheers
Arcos 12-11-2004, 06:17 AM update
Cab 30 MS:160 SGD (with string, no mention of grip and bag)
no a single cent discount. feel so disgusted when so many ppl says that their price are good.
Chek78 12-11-2004, 07:02 AM Are you refering to the shop in Bras Basah? 3rd floor, I could not push the price down below SGD 160 as well. And yes they never talk about the free bag and grip. I wonder how did the guys managed to get SGD 130 there.
But their prices are still cheaper than the 10n10 owner. He quoted me SGD 199 with strings, grip and bag. I told him that someone says there is a shop at Bras Basah that could offer at SGD 130, he iterally chased me out of the shop and slammed the door behind me. Kept saying "you should go to that shop and buy"
Really pissed out man........

daijoobu 04-16-2005, 09:42 PM Just bought MP100 at $160 SGD with YY BG68 Ti @ 24 ibs and YY ti6000 grip yesterday. The string was sold seperately at the shop for $18 SGD and the grip for $8.90 SGD. At $160, I think is fair.
May be because of all the bad press in this forum, the guys in 10+10 are actually very nice. They anwer to all my questions even though there was many. I went to 10+10 at 7pm but as I need the racket today (Sunday), one of them even offer to deliver near my house since he also staying quite near.
I asked him how can he do that if he is working, he then reply he is not but will be at the shop on Sunday anyway.
Not sure if I can believe he can make it, I turn down the offer and will be going today to collect my MP100.
Will see if any change of attitue and let you all know.....:p
Sad though, as I saw the reviews of MP100 to be very fragile. :(
Also have the following price from 10+10
YY Nanospeed 7000 - $240 SGD.
Proace Nanopower 7000 - $90 SGD (after discount).

Jansenkzh 04-29-2005, 07:53 AM Today just went to queenway, there are plenty of rackets, MAINLY, Ashaway, which priced between $20 - $180. But then, it seem to had been there for a long time, a lot dust. But definitely, bargain to the lowest price is super possible. I went to the indian shop, which sell shoes, i say i ask the uncle 1st time how much the shoes, he told me $65, then i walk 1 step, he task me whats my burget, I replied "$40", I walk another step, he stopped me, he told me $40, then i walk another step near going out, he told me $35... WTH man... I went to another shop see, same brand only $32..
NanoSpeed $268 @ queenway
Armortec $268 @ queenway
Queenway, i think they sell many oversea imported goods, saw their box with oversea shipping stamp.
They sell more shoes then rackets =x
And many brands of shuttlecocks...
Still got plenty of brands... I remembered 1 racket that is also nano carbon made... see the logo dunno what wulu brand....
He told me if he sell me $35 he earned $1 only, but why other shop sell $32?
Is queenway shuttle more cheap or BB?

Try bargaining. I mean when you walk in, look cool. Look confident. Someone will come and attend to you, then next thing you point at the racquet and say, "How much for that?" Then you'll get a toned down price. Next thing you go and say, "Anymore discount?" and then you wait for a reply. If yes good for you. If no, then you just consider the price on the spot. Put on a poker face and look serious as if you're considering the price.
If the attendant is hasty, then you might get away with a lower price. Keep pressuring for a lower price. Don't show that you are hasty and in a rush cause then they won't budge. Act calm as if you got all the time in the world. Say things like, "Mmm, I'd buy it right now if it was at XYZ price..." Don't give an unrealistic figure. Then if that fails go to another store and try again!!!

Just went there, intending to get MP100, but ended up with a TI-10 instead. They are selling MP100 at $170 with string as quote by the lady there. But please take note, they only left with 3u version of MP100 now. She check through their stock and there are no 2u left.
I went to zenith, they only had one 2uG5 MP100 left, price quoted by the lady was $165 with string also.
msenghl 06-10-2005, 10:04 AM just curious, how much did you get the Ti10, and the specs are?
Fly_Away^_^ 06-10-2005, 10:14 AM SGD$160 plus string 2uG4. If I remember correctly thats the last piece in the shop which is 2uG4, the rest they had are 3uG4 or G5

Just for racket, string and grip, you can get it at lower pricing:cool: However, if you want the 199 promotion with the bag, BG65, racket and a grip, that is over(if i remember correctly)
msenghl 06-12-2005, 02:50 AM No, the MP 99 Promo is still available. Just went to Sportslink on Friday, the Promo ad is still there.
modious 06-12-2005, 05:42 AM Is there a difference between TH and SP rackets aside from one being sold in Thailand, and the other in Singapore? Are there differences in racket construction?
I've spoken to some experienced stringers who've personally strung quite a no. of TH, SP and JP rackets. TH racket frame tends to shrink at higher tensions as compared to SP frames. JP frames are the most stable out of the 3 as they can stand higher tensions. Whether it's better, durable, etc.... well it's up for you to decide. ;)

I think that it would be a better deal to get at a pro shop instead of sunrise. NS8k was 270 when i last checked (inclusive of string and grip). Sunrise is 299 with BG65, a grip and a bag. However, you cannot choose the available stuff. And now, with $29 you can get a bigger bag than what they are giving out. So, I prefer to get a bras besah...

Arief, is this genuine? Any difference on quality and performance between TH and SP? Thanks.
LouisW 07-08-2005, 02:30 AM I was told that the differences (price) between TH and SP is the warranty.
If you bought a TH version in Singapore, your claims will be slower because they have to sent it back to Thailand to claims a new piece for you. That is why the price is lower.
If you bought a SP version in Singapore, claims will be faster and thus, the price is higher.
I think the quality/compound for both racquet is the same.

yes.. of course it is genuine :D SP version got 3 years warranty and it's 1 to 1 exchange. I'm not sure about TH racket bought in Singapore. I heard people said that SP version is more durable, but personally, I do not think so. For performance, it is exactly the same (based on my experience)

Roy,
I got mine at S$230 plus 5% tax through a Singaporean friend (which translate to around US$142) from one of the shop in brash basah. I think u can get rid of 5% tax since ur not SG citizen or immigrant. You mean NS800 in the Phils is around 15,ooo pesos? wow ang mahal!!! btw, I'm here in Indonesia that's I have no idea how much it cost in our country.

Hiii, dun tink u paid over unless yr mp99 is TH coded (which means no guarantee over here). anyway, since i assume the mp99 u buy is SP coded, the cheapest u can find at other places ranges from $170-$180 +strings+grip+a normal muscle power racket bag. hence since u got another yonex big bag which shld cost ard $30-$50, $195 is quite alrite. :D
as for guarantee, no need to register.... so in the meanwhile, ENJOY YR MP99!!!! ;) ;) ;) Have fun!!!!

as for guarantee, no need to register.... so in the meanwhile, ENJOY YR MP99!!!! ;) ;) ;) Have fun!!!!
what do you mean no guarantee for TH coded rackets? does this mean some shops in Bras Basah don't sell authentic TH rackets?!!!

haizzz...how i supposed to explain....:crying: okok, i try...they do sell authentic Yonex TH-coded rackets. but since its coded TH.... its meant to be distributed to thailand. so if yr TH racket break under those unusual circumstances like bird hit frame, den frame crack n yr strings are under the tension range on the sticker etc etc .... u cant demand a replacement from the singapore sunrise & Co.Pte Ltd even though u buy it in spore coz their rackets distributed in spore is SP coded. (sunrise & co pte Ltd hold the distributorship of yonex rackets for HK, India, Indo, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam n Spore.) furthermore, TH rackets are not under their distributorship in thailand (if i not wrong, TH rackets are under a diff company far east co. or something like dat.) , hence if u wan a replacement....u will need to either send it to thailand yrself or maybe seek the help of the shop u bought yr TH racket from in spore. most likely, its hard luck lah coz its too troublesome for them. maybe some other pple here can explain it better den me. :(

roylbdm1 07-26-2005, 02:49 AM Roy,
I got mine at S$230 plus 5% tax through a Singaporean friend (which translate to around US$142) from one of the shop in brash basah. I think u can get rid of 5% tax since ur not SG citizen or immigrant. You mean NS800 in the Phils is around 15,ooo pesos? wow ang mahal!!! btw, I'm here in Indonesia that's I have no idea how much it cost in our country.
I heard mas mura in Thailand. Good luck in your shopping...
Mt. Apo
Thanks man. Yup, Yonex is very expensive here in Phils.

how much you bought yours for? no complaints for a really light racquet like this!
all my friends love the feel of it but i prefer a heavier one with more smashing power. that's why my #1 preference now is the ti-10. only use the yangyang as a backup. what do u think of it?
Arief 08-02-2005, 08:23 AM how much is the MP99 TH version and where is the best place to get it in singapore?
I have never seen any mp99 TH sold in singapore... anyway, 10 n 10 in brash basah sell it at a good price, even better if u dun want the big bag
Arief 08-02-2005, 08:24 AM yonex ti-10 sgd$150, mp100 sgd$160 at ranking sports

MP100 at SGD 160 ?!?!! are you sure? i'm going down to get it if it is true
storkbill 08-08-2005, 10:20 PM I bought a racquet from Ranking which had already been strung. When I went back, I discovered it was strung with BG-66 AND BG-68 Ti (both blue colour). Wonder why? Using up loose string lying around? :)
Other than that, am happy with Ranking. If you are one of those that inspects date codes, you'll notice that Music Book Room has a lot of 2005 racquets while Ranking still has a lot of 2004 stock, but Ranking has good prices.
But recently Sunrise seems to be sticking the hologram over the date code so more difficult to inspect.
gigiboyz49 08-20-2005, 08:09 PM Hi Guys,
I will be in Singapore on a stopover this week and was wondering if anyone will be kind enough to advise me as to where I can purchase an authentic Yonex Armortec 800 Def and Yonex SHB-99MX at a cheap price.
From the posts that I have read recently, it seems that Bras Basah Complex is the recommended Mecca for badminton supplies. Considering that I will only be there for an afternoon, time is of the essence and I intend to concentrate my shopping for these items at Bras Basah Complex, unless there is a cheaper alternative.
Accordingly, I would appreciate it if someone could provide me with a price for these items and which shop in BB complex to purchase them from.
Thanks:) :)

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Yes, the prices seem quite competitive. I might even consider getting the shb 99 limited if they can do me a good deal for both items.
By the way, do you know if the prices at these establishments include GST? As I will be taking it out of the country, I assume that I will be able to claim GST back from Customs when I leave provided GST is included in the price.
Thanks

this is generally true...i got an armortec 500 TH coded at a shop in queensway...it was ok for a few weeks but then the cone came off...so i returned it to them and tehy said they'll see what the agent will do. after about two weeks...they called me and said that the agent did a lousy job...didn't ask what but i assumed they tried to glue it or whatever...so the shop said they'll just replace it with a bnew one! true enough...i went to the shop and they gave me a spanking new one...and this time it's SP coded! had to pay for the strings though but that's ok...
so what i'm trying to say is it depends on the shop you got the racket...some will say right away that they can't do anything once something happens while some do replace it...so ask before you buy...:D

walfisch 09-05-2005, 09:58 PM Ranking Sports is selling MP-99 for S$190. Comes pre-strung with BG66 at 24lbs and also a bag (able to hold 2-3 rackets with shuttlecock tube).
Didn't ask her whether change in string would be free though...24lbs might be a bit too high tension for some of us.
Cheers!

quite funny that they strung the racket beforehand. 10 n 10 selling at the same price with any choice of string and bag (quite surprised that they allow buyer to take the big bag)..
walfisch 09-05-2005, 10:39 PM Yup was quite surprised as well...
anyway the woman at Ranking told me that nowadays the rackets all come with the big bag, the small bag phased out liao...
OT a bit....but I still don't get the differences between the strings...how does the different diameter affect? And what about those 'Ti' strings?
