Hello Everyone,
Anyone in this forum going to Athens Olympics 2004? I'm planning to go to Athens. The badminton is scheduled between 14th August 2004 to 21st August 2004. I'm not sure yet but I may want to go early dates (14-17) or (18-21) based upon the avaliability of tickets. I would love to see qf, sf and finals but not sure whether I will get tickets.
If anyone from badminton forum travelling to athens then maybe we should all meet together and watch the match as a group (ie. BadmintonForum.com Users Group) :D
Maybe we should give it a nice name. We should take this oppurtunity and request players and other badminton fans to hang out in badmintonforum.com forum. We will increase the popularity of badmintonforum.com (ofcourse with approved permission from badmintonforum.com owner's) and get lots of badminton players, fans, coach etc from all over the world to hang out in these forum. There is no better place to meet different people from different countries other than olympics.
What do you ladies and gentlemen think?
I'm sure it will be great fun :) :) :) We will form a group and make sooooo much noice in the stadium the media should turn their attention towards us and say few words about our Badmintonforum.com :D
goshh!! I'm so drunk now. Maybe all the things I typed now may not make any sence when I wake up in the morning :) :D :D :D
hey why don't we make it "badmintonforum.com badders party" :D :D
Sure we all badders will look after each other and make it as much fun as possible :D :D
cheers

i think this is a great idea - well - at least for the european members on the forum - since we are the closest, be a chance to have a weeks hols in greece, on top of that it would be much easier all travelling and holidaying in the same area - hehe - we could have a badders forum restricted olympics competition. :D
as always i'm sure there will be tickets available for some of the days. (since baddy never sells out :( )
spose all it comes down to is budget really.. oh - and who can get the time off work :D

Hi Sunny
Great idea! But where will you be staying? Is it possible to arrange for interested BFers to stay together as well, somewhere near the stadium where badminton will be held? Then we will really have a good time together.
Of course we will need to fix a date which should preferably be closer to the badminton quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. :)

Coach said that everywhere is charging quite a bit more whilst the olympics are on. Expected I guess, but makes going out there quite a pricey affair.

There are plenty of tickets and plenty of flights available sharon. I just had look at expedia.co.uk and price starts from £207.00. But the only disadvantage is they are not direct flight.
I found this flight as an example :)

I'm still looking for accomadation. I found details of flights, found details of tickets but accomadation seems to be a bit tough. There are still lots of accomadation available but they are expensive. I'm looking for all price ranges. Will let you all know :)

I think my friend From China will go to Athen to watch.:) :)
If a number of people don't mind staying together, they can arrange a cheap accomodation for a group.
I.e. getting an appartement and sharing the costs with 8 peopel is cheaper.. everything will be very expensive during the Olympics (if not booked full).
By the way, are there any people from Greece here on the forum or anyone familiar with Athens or cheap places to stay in Athens?

Hello Everyone,
The flight tickets and finals badminton tickets are not that expensive. The only problem is accommodation! I searched web for accommodation and for 5 days it costs around £1850. That is too expensive.
Anyone else going to athens? Anyone have any ideas or tips for accommodation in athens, greece.

Anyone have any ideas or tips for accommodation in athens, greece.I think you might be better off taking a tent and camping somewhere, the place is near enough fully booked, and what's left is expensive like you say. I'm going from 15th-20th August, watching 4 sessions of badminton and one of tennis, but although the flights and tickets are reasonable, its the accommodation that hits hard.

Have you sorted your accommodation jonno? Are you planning to stay in a tent or have you got a hotel room? I'm still hunting for accommodation or a group of ppl I can share accommodation with.

Accommodation's sorted thanks, we have a hotel in the centre of Athens for five nights at sky-high prices. Still I'm sure it'll be worth it, these sort of events don't come around very often. We found the hotel through expedia.co.uk.

I'm afraid that is the sort of price you'll have to pay. :( I'll send you a PM with a bit more info.
Is anyone also going to the session that includes the men singles final OR to the session that includes the men doubles final?
Hey Kwun do you send out free BF t-shirts to the olympic visitors , to promote BF in Athens? ;)

Have you got the accommodation gliby? where did you find it? I had everything except accommodation so I had to give up going to athens :(
I would still love to go but accommodation is something I'm really looking for.

I tried but couldn't find anything. I don't know anyone in greece so the only way for me to find an accommodation is through the internet but couldn't find any or the hotels I found were very expensive.
Its a shame I didn't plan it properly otherwise I would have been to olympics :(

Its a shame I didn't plan it properly otherwise I would have been to olympics :(Don't give up sunny. You can get accommodation outside athens, at a cheaper price, and travel in each day. You won't mind early starts and lots of travelling if it means you watch the olympics!
