Hej Jonas,

couyld you point me to site/thread on the net where the kind of running patterns you use in your double matches are described ? I mean the way you and your partner divides the field, who covers what part, how does the one not receiving move in relation to the receiving player.

When playing badminton in Denmark in my youth we learned specific ways to do this (at least I remember it like that ;) ), but here in Luxembourg where I'm now playing, everybody has their own opinion on the subject  . It's quite a big problem in our club, because we very often have to play our doubles in the league matches with different combination of players, and we loose a lot of matches because the two players move in different ways. I hope to be able to get everybody to agree on a standard (at least the basic principles), and it would make it easier for me to persuade our players to follow the guidelines if they came recommended by an outstanding double player like you :) (fedter jeg ikke godt ? lol)

take care all

Lars and I play more like the asian players who tend to move around court a lot and both players can play at the net and in the backcourt.

Other european doubles play with one man specializing in netplay and the other in the back.

I tend to think that itīs better to have pair that can play different playing styles in different situations. Adjusting your playing style to which opponent you play is one of the most important things to master in badminton.

Lars and I try to do that. Sometimes we play european style and sometimes we fight the asians with their own medicine.

Cool, that means I'm trying to get my club mates to play asian style doubles lol

Do you mean that the european style is more like typical mixed double style, with a "weak" female and a "strong" male ? Do you, or anybody else, know a place on the internet where people can read more about these two styles ? for example: we never seem to be able agree on the following (asuming we are playing asian style):

We are recieving, taking defensive position, one covering the left side, the other the right side. The player reciving the shuttle decides to make a net shot. Should we keep our defensive position, or should the player making the net shot move forward an in the middle to cover the net, and the other backwards and to middle to cover the back ? Or does it completely depend on the opponents ?

I think, considering that the opponent now MUST lift the shuttle and we therefore are in an attacking position, that the second way is the "correct", but wouldn't be suprised if I'm wrong lol

thank you in advance for all feedback
