View Full Version : Chinese closed door training pics...
here are some pics stolen from a Chinese baord. someone managed to visit the Chinese in their closed door facility in Yiyang. they have found this place which has a similar climate as Athens and also a similar sized stadium. they also fixed up the lights and the A/C to be similar as Athens. and as you see, the color of the surroundings are also made similar to the real thing.
Great stuffs. China is really gearing up for the olympics. Saw the 4 vs 1 trainning method. Its really hard.

great pics kwun!
i read from chinabadminton that there are 10 practice courts and 3 match courts...but there only seems to be 3 there....or are they all in different places?
yeah. i read that there are different buildings that holds various facilities like the cafeteria and the various halls.
the one shown on the pics must be the 3 match courts you mentioned.
that's a lot of effort putting into the preparation. must be a lot of money behind it and enough to show that they are very very serious with the preparation.

Fixing the lights to be similar to the game settings is a very smart thing to do. For me, I think lighting is an important thing to get used to if you want to play well in the gym..

wow, the Chinese must be very efficient and quick in this preparation. Misbun has just left to Athens to check out the condition on Friday. By the time he returns to Malaysia, the Chinese players are already partially "ready" for the Olympics. Are there any countries doing the same thing as the Chinese team?
That's cool that they're doing the close-door training in my hometown!
I'm not sure if it's just the way the photos were taken but the lights look really bright.
The only people I think I recognize is Zhang Ning and Gao Ling in pic 4???
Kwun, that's a nice stea... er, I mean find! :D

Yes, by the time Misbun Sidek, the Malaysia head coach, returns from Athens, the stadium gets new light bulbs and the floor plan has changed.
As for China, they can now claim to Athens "we can change the light bulbs quicker than you do, just in case"
Now I see what the professional players go through, no wonder they are ... GOOD ! No wonder China wins Thomas Cup, they deserve it !

Don't you think that other countries like Korea, Malaysia and Indonesia are doing the same thing?

Koreans have some courts that looked like Athens. But they have a regular trainning session. Not really closed door session.
For Msians , just normal trainning as usual. currently we dont have so much investments to make a court look like Athens compare to the chinese.

One thing I noticed about the pics is that, they are using TONS of shuttles. Normally, it's just about 5~7 dozens of shuttles in the trainnings I have seen in different gyms, however, they brought in the BIG CASE, and that's probably in at least 50 dozens of shuttles.....and I bet those are shuttles similar to Yonex AS-50 since they want to match everything to the olympics. ( I don't know what's the official shuttle(s) for olympics)
I wish one day I could do that.....that must be nice, really really nice thing to do when training.
the Chinese team is supposed sponsored by Jin Que, so i won't be surprised if they get them by the truck load...

Shasha, is this team match in Changsha open to the public? Do you know what date(s) it will be held and where it's to be held?
Thanks.

Depends on the size of the club, I thought most clubs buy shuttles by the box though, I mean there's only 50 tubes in the box. We go through about 4 new tubes a normal session, about that again for the two training sessions, so a box only really lasts us a week or so. For what they are doing (fast feeding in a lot of cases) you always have a box of semi used shuttles since you do at least 100 shuttles in a short time, for each person, having to pick them up again would really stuff it up due time wastage. Especially if you have at least 2 people (as in two individuals, not two on at once) for a 1 to 1 intense work/rest rate.
PS funnily, even if I had the chance (an stupid amounts of money) I'd probably still us semi used shuttles for feeding, the slight irregularity in the flight is good practise for reflexes.

I had been to Sydney 2000, got a empty tube after MD FINAL; it was YONEX F-90 (made in japan).

Fixing the lights to be similar to the game settings is a very smart thing to do. For me, I think lighting is an important thing to get used to if you want to play well in the gym..
I partner my brother yesterday at the usual badminton hall and were playing fantastic badminton; him with clever placement and well timed smashes, me with speed at the net and great control with delicate touches. We were interrupted for a moment when a group of guys told us that Court #1 was theirs and they were right, ours were Court #2.
We moved and guess what? Suddenly my brother's game dipped significantly, many times missing the overhead shot when it would be easy meat for him from the baseline. We ended up losing 8 points in a row and lost the game in a whole. He tiold me that the lights are a little bit dimmer in the centre court and he can't seem to accustom himself to it.
Thus, lighting does matter.
The Chinese are investing in the correct stuff.

GOod Idea, let's ask JR. I want to know how DAN and INA prepare for the specific conditions in Athens...
I think the Chinese squad trying to model the climate, light and stadium conditions of Athens is crucial for victory. To be able to practice in an environment similar to the one they will be playing in under pressure certainly prepares them beforehand.
In fact, the Chinese table tennis national squad is doing the same thing right now, training closed doors in Xiamen. And, they even went as far as to purchase 8 tables made by the German company that will supply the tables for Athens!!
This is what exemplifies a nation's will and committment to win!
