I dun agree with you. I feel that Sony is a potential great player with great agility. He also has a strong smash. I am a huge fan of Alven / Luluk too. They are fast and Luluk is equipped with a strong smash.
Anyway I am not trying to find faults with you. If I have offended you, please accept my apologies.

IMHO, I think that both Taufik and Sony are very talented but of course every player has their own weaknesses... For example, Taufik has very powerful smashes but his bad temper always gets in his way... I'm not really good at judging players, so i can't spot Sony's weakness in his game.. As for Alven/Luluk, I think they need more time to prove themselves...Btw, I do think that Alven is a little over weight.. :D No offence to his fans....

Are you talking about the weight issue? If yes, i'm talking about Alven... Alven is the one which looks fairer...

I'm a fan of Sigit Budiarto. I think he is really a brilliant badminton player. His reactions are extremely fast and judgements are very accurate. Everytime he returns the shuttle, the opponents will find it very difficult to smash it back because the shuttle always going downward near the net or pushed to the back of the court ( very high quality returns ). He could create a lot of opportunities for his partner to smash.
Sigit could also make very sharp backhand and forehand returns at the net, very attractive and beautiful strokes. His defence is also incredible!!
He is very 'charming' because of his confidence (especially when he was lagged behind ). He always shows 100% confidence to win the game and he can give extraordinary returns, not feared of anyone.
I really hope that he will not retire after the Olympics this year, then I can enjoy some more of his fantastic games. :)

Indonesians had been competing in the Olympics since 1952, but had never won a gold medal until badminton was added to the Olympic program in 1992. At the Barcelona Games, Susy Susanti qualified easily for the final, outscoring her first four opponents 88-22. However, a determined Bang Soo-hyun of Korea won the first game 11-5. Then Susanti took charge, winning the second game 11-5 and the third game 11-3. Two hours later, her fiancé, Allan Budi Kusuma, won the men's badminton title. When Susanti and Kusuma returned to Indonesia, the celebration in their honour included a two-hour parade through the streets of Jakarta that was led by a car carrying a gigantic shuttlecock. The following year, Susanti faced Bang in the final of the 1993 world championships. Again Bang won the first game, but again Susanti came back to win the next two games. At the next Olympics, in 1996, the two were matched in the semifinals. This time Bang emerged victorious. However Susanti recovered to win the bronze medal match against Korean Kim Ji-hyun 11-4, 11-1. Susanti and Kusuma married in 1997.

Maybe Taufik and Sony should get engaged to their female team members and they'd all win gold medals next month.

I am a fan of Sigit's as well. I am of the opinion that the Indonesian Team is hard done by the bureaucrats. Indonesia, being one of the badminton superpowers, has very few youngblood coming up even though the talent and popular support is there. Indonesia is one of the few countries that could compete toe-to-toe with China in badminton. Reform is needed at the top in that organization.

I love Chandra Wijaya as well...but unfortunately his performance...aiks~~~:(
met Rexy and Marleve Mainaky in Malaysia Open 2004,they r quite friendly....

I also thought that Indonesia didn't have any youthful talent, but to my surprise two young guys made it to the MD semi-finals at the Malaysian Open. Markis Kidho and Hendra Setiawan. Does anyone have info about these two?

Liem Swie King (3x All England Champion, 8x apperances in All England Finals)
Susi Susanti (4x All England Champion, 5x apperances in All England Finals)
Christian/Ade Chandra (2x All England Champion)
Tjun Tjun/Wahjudi (6x All England Champion, 8x apperances in All England Finals)

I think Ricky/Rexy is the best Indo pair. May even be slightly better than
Candra/Tony. Ricky/Rexy play the game so smoothly that you can hardly
see any chances for their opponents.
btw, after watching Park Joobong/Kim Doonmoon playing Antonius/Kantono,
I have been wondering whether this pair is even better than Ricky/Rexy. :-)

Hi All,
As you all probably know already, CHairul Tanjung the head of PBSI is stepping down soon.
The hot new candidate to replace him is Dahlan Iskan, the media magnate from east java.
Being a fellow east javanese, i can tell you that the PBSI will be in good hands with him. He is a very good and FAIR biz man. He heads hundreds of companies in Indonesia and a few in China too! He speaks mandarin fluently!
I trust that all the corruptions and like/dislike factor in the national training centre will be gone. So only the individuals both players and coaches with great potential will be taken in the national traning centre.
I wish for the best for Indo Badminton.

Even live in Belgium, I am still Indonesian, so..... ofcouse I support Indonesia.
But...... there are so many things miss in PBSI. The wost was when PBSI leaded by Chairul Tanjung (nu already step down).
Before Tanjung era, PBSI is leaded by a militair generals. Like : Tri Sutrisno, Soejardi, Bambang Soebagio.
I don't know why, but at that time Indonesia was a 'share holder' with China.
Since PBSI in Tanjung's hand, it was free fall.
It isn't shortage of talent, but rather than mis-management especially in training policy.
I hope the new PBSI's chief can set PBSI back to the right rail.

After observing him a few times before the televison set, I agree that he is quite plump. But he is realli short at a height of 167cm! I cant believe that intially but I think his body mass got to do with his height. And I cant recall any Indonisan players who are really tall except for Limpele.

I couldn't agree more, taufik is one of my fav players. Taufik reminds me of Heryanto Arbi with wonderful smashes and and tricks. Because of I'm a left-handed I would favour Lin Dan, Zhao Jian Hua and Yang Yang play style. Doubles I would prefer Rexy Mainaky-RIcky SUbagja and Razif-Jailani Sidek. SPEED-POWER is the preferred nowadays if we want to kill opponents fighting and of course 'kick them off early'

Hmmm forget about old time players for a moment..... :D
I would like to say that the best Indonesian player must be Hendrawan and Taufik after Alan-Ardy-Arbi era :D they appeared at the same time!
This two is really different, one started to rise when he's already old.... and the other still very young that time.
After 1998 TC, Hendrawan kept rising until 2001 Sevilla. Too bad, so sad he only reached runner-up at Asian Games 1998 & Olympic 2000 even actually he could be the champion especially in Asian Games 1998 :argg I hate bein runner-ups!! But he's a hero, without his support, Indonesia wouldn't defend TC for 6 times consecutively.....
Meanwhile Taufik also could break Hartono record at All England 1998 and 1999 but again that Danish stood on his way so Taufik only became runner-ups, I hate it. But it's paid off now woth gold medal, haaahhhh! And bright future still open for him
If only they could maximize and get all their chances, surely they would reign since that time!.

now taufik has olympic gold medal, defenitly he is the best in the world:cool: about sony he hasn't deadly smash like taufik i think 3 and 4 years he can even with taufik
about double i think the best double that we have is flandy/eng, they play most stable than other indonsisan double and now they get bronze
but still my favorite player is Ardy BW

hoho... I don't think so.... the challenge for him in Olympic is only Gade. If the final stage was between him and Gade or Lin Dan, then we could assume he's the best. But I'm glad he got it, the gold is somewhat morality support for Taufik.
Actually I think Candra and Halim could be a good pair, and why Sigit and Candra did not play together again? Poor Sigit..... for Candra, I'm sure he can perform better next year til Beijing 2008.

I think you forgot Woong Choon Han, Taufik had harder time against Woong than Peter Gade. Beside, Taufik path to gold wasn't easy since he had to win the top half.

so, is there any badminton player at the moment who's marching to the altar? is taufik really getting married to that actress/model deswati maharani?

wow. it seems like indonesian fans really give WCH the credit he deserves.
in Malaysia right he's getting alot of heat even tho he's the only one that took taufik to a rubber game in the olympics. lost to eventual olympic champ also still 'kena tembak' (criticized).

Taufik is also victorious in the PON in Palembang, Indonesia beating Simon Santoso something like 15-3, 15-3. Simon still has lots of catching up to do in order to play up to Taufik and Sony's standard/level.

He's good. But Sony and Taufik are still young. Both of them are medallist at the Olympics. I am very proud of my favourite player, Taufik. Finally, he had regain his form already.
For the doubles, I think Hendra Setiawan and Markis Kido or Hendra Gunawan and Joko Riyadi are good. Indonesia had better produce some good doubles soon. When the older boys retire, they still can revive their strength-hold in doubles.
China had established themselves with Sang and Zheng, Cai and Fu in the top 10. Malaysia have started planning with new pair Kien Keat and Chong Ming.
It's a dream come true for me. And I hope I can see Kien Keat and Chong Ming play

well right now i think the best Indonesian player are of course Taufik Hidayat and Alvent Yulianto/Luluk hadiyanto because they have won the lately championship..........
but my favorite is the pair Alvent Yulianto/Luluk Hadiyanto because they are so great and surprising........few months ago they just second priority player but right now they become the number one player not even in Indonesia but in the world also and they are still young too.........
hopefully in the future they will make Indonesian badminton proud of their achievement in championship......
anyway about Simon Santoso well he just 18 years old so right now he cant make a great achievement but i believe that in the future he will be one of the greatest player......
