View Full Version : Video Mirror for Kwun's posted videos
604badder 06-24-2004, 09:56 PM Following up on Kwun's generous offer of bandwidth, I have been recently endowed with a big fat pipe that I can use to host videos for all of us on BF on a long term basis.
http://lunchbox.mech.ubc.ca/~nsiu
Although my access to this machine is legit, we are going to have to be a bit more restrained when using this machine as there are other users on there and they won't be happy if we pound the server until it freezes like when Kwun first posted. We'll see how the demand goes. If it does become debilitating for the users on the machine, then I'll work out a scheme with Kwun to look into setting up some sort of BitTorrent server here instead, and use my machine as a permanent tracker host. I'll let everyone know if I do have to take it down. For now, just be nice, go one at a time please and don't use something like a download manager to leech it
If this server works out, I would like to start soliciting videos donations from all of you to host here for everyone. With a sufficient collection of videos, I think we would have a good impetus to setup a nice configuration like BitTorrent tracker server to handle the demand from everyone. Also I don't know what the copyright issues though with this may be, so comment on this is welcomed.
Enjoy :D
Fook90 06-24-2004, 10:36 PM Thanx. The speed was faster than that of the previous one.
Btw I really hope that people could donate your badminton videos to 604badder. So that he is possible to share it with us. I will try to give you one after it has finish downloading. I dun have any currently.
Anyway is there an expiry date for that site
604badder 06-24-2004, 11:32 PM No there isn't no expiry date for this site. The only limitation would be if there becomes a copyright issue with these things, in which case since they are on a university provided connection, I'd have to take it off. There is also a small group of other researchers that use this machine, so if the network absolutely grinds to a halt from demand, I'd have to remove all the videos in that case as well. So just be responsible, take your bit a little at a time and we should all be ok.
Perhaps once everyone's had a chance to get at these videos, I'll introduce one or two new ones at a time so there isn't a mass swarming problem like before.
Thanx. The speed was faster than that of the previous one.

wood_22_chuck 06-25-2004, 10:52 AM I'm speechless. :D
Thanks for your dedication to badminton, 604badder! Many love the game, but very few actually follow up and be a contributor. Stand up and be counted. I lament that you guys are an endangered species, I fear.

604badder 06-28-2004, 05:53 PM Hi BFer's. I regret to inform you that I was forced to take down the mirror due to the massive bandwidth usage on the server. At one point you guys were using on that connection 1/10th of the bandwidth the entire campus was using! Needless to say that set off some alarms.
wood_22_chuck 06-28-2004, 06:06 PM Never underestimate BadmintonFan (-atism) :D

I wonder how many of the young sh$ntz recognise that line, actually we had a sound bite from "Smells like teen spirit" and a 16 year old kid didn't recognise it, how sad.

yah, lot of today's music have a shelf life of 1 week because they are driven by marketing rather than by creativity. Most of my mp3's are songs from 70 and 80's. They are good as well as being exempted from copyright law.
coandrew 06-28-2004, 08:48 PM yikes 2 more days to get the files and am just starting now with speeds of 3.xx kb/sec over my 128kb/s connection!! oh no too late!! pls. share in emule you guys k... thanks :)

my suggestion is to use a server program that auto limits the bandwidth and number of users....1 program i use it serv-u ftp server, as it also auto bans persistant users and seems very stable. that way u dont have to worry about excessive bandwidth
