i see three possible explanations for Lin Dan's lost.

1. he peaked too early in the year. atheletes are like waves, they go up and down. they never stay high indefinitely. Lin Dan could've hit a high earlier on in the year and he is now heading down.

2. he underestimated his opponents. lacking in focus and lost the match

3. he doesn't care. he is already at the top and guaranteed a top seeding in the Olympics. not trying 100% will prevent an injury.

1 is bad scenario.
2 is so so.
3 is ok.
