Good morning.
On the back of having demonstrated my first, moderately successful coaching session to a pupil, I realised that I hadn't prepared as well as I might have liked. The session should have been much more fluent, and I may have been teaching things too quickly, in the wrong order, in an ineffective way, etc. The problem is, I'm not sure where to pinpoint the faux pas. Perhaps it was lack of experience.
I've no doubt that this will happen to me again and again, and that it has happened to every coach somewhere down the line. I would really appreciate some interaction with other coaches, so that we can all help each other excel in the field of coaching.
Yesterday at around 10pm I made a request to initiate a "Coaches' Forum" to BF. Kwun's ever-balanced view is that with the provision of enough interest amongst coaches, it could be a successful addition to the overall forum. Topics covered would include anything within the coaching sphere, for example:
motivating pupils, fun environment, condition games, coaching styles, coaching tips, body language, feedback, dealing with conflict and emergencies, unconventional/new views on coaching, strength/speed/endurance training, psychological training, specific breakdown of stroke-moves/body-skills, ideal coaching plans, priority of skills, voice projection, coaching children...this list is not exhaustive.
Views on coaching would be welcome from all members of BF, or at the moderators' discretion. All the moderators want is enough enthusiasm from the coaches in the forum. As well as improve the standard amongst coaches here, perhaps it could serve as an encouragement for other members to join the coaching register! :)
(It seems I don't have the option of creating a poll, which is a bit unfortunate.)
