Just a silly nonsense question, why do we shorten the name of CARBONEX racquets to CAB and not CARB?

Obviously we like short names and nicknames, but before the recent meaning of carb to mean carbohydrates, it would seem like the shorten form of Carbonex should have been carb and not cab. Any reasons for this or does CAB just sound better?

cab does sound better, but not sure if that is the real reason.

here is a brochure that dates back to 1984, it was already call CAB's then...

Carb is a nickname for carbohydrates if I'm not wrong. I don't think you'd want to link your carbonex racquets to carbohydrates would you? http://www.badmintoncentral.com/vb/images/smilies/tongue.gif

i'd imagine because cab is easier to pronunce in asian languages than carb. It'd probably be pronounced "keh-arr-beh" va. "ka-beh"

is it because the japanese say kabonekusu?

kwun, nice brochure from 1984. Totally agree that CAB sounds better.

BethuneGuy, I think you might be right about the Japanese word for the carbonex being kabonekusu. That makes a lot of sense.

Native Japanese speakers have a huge problem distinguishing the "r" and the "l" in English---this maybe part of the reason.

I think it was deliberately named Cab - instead or Carb - it is most unlikely that it was a result of mispronunciation - although the kabonekusu explanation sounds very plausible !
