View Full Version : Alternative to a Yonex Armortec 800 DE
flymordecai 07-26-2004, 06:27 AM Right now I'm looking to buy a second racket, particularly the Armortec 800 DE or something similar, but being a college student it's tough to spend up to $200 for a new racket. Is there a cheaper alternative to an Armortec 800 DE that is similar in power and control? I can get one for $185 + tax, but that's a bit tough on the wallet. Are there similar rackets? SOTX, Forza, Gosen, Fleet?

I've seen an APAC AT700 which is claimed by James Wong ( An APAC Sponsored Malaysian Badminton player) That it is similar to Yonex AT700 I've tried it and it is not bad . Can be strung up to 30lbs with warranty...and by the way I met and talked to him personally in Bukit Kiara Malaysian Sports Complex where BAM players are training.
jeeves 07-26-2004, 12:10 PM Try the Prince NXG-85 for the DE and the NXG-85XP (head heavy) for the OF. Feels about the same for a fraction of the cost.
If you want to spend a bit more and can use Y-joints. try the Prince More++ 85 as an alternative to the defensive. (the More++87 is the head heavy version).

I have my hand on the APACS one that are the clone of the Armortec 800 DE and OF. Like the feel of the cloned DE, just like the real DE.

I mean I've tried APAC AT700 cloned of Armotec 700, h/wever for Armotec 800, I'm not sure? Is there any real price difference between these two (APAC AT700 and cloned Armotec 800)?
Here in Bkt Kiara, they sell APAC AT700 for RM146.00 plus stringing +grip+ Racket bag and Warranty. Yonex MP55 = RM199.00 only (includes string + grip and bag). By the way what happened to Yonex MP55, this racket ain't good ah...provided its sudden price falls ?
I think prince rackets are quite expensive compared to APAC. If u r price conscious and still wanto to feel the 'yonex feels' seek out yonex cloned racket...IMHO, APAC is one of them.

The model are: -
Offensive : - ArmourPower 880
Defensive : - ArmourPower 850
You can't miss them as their paintwork look identical to the Yonex.
Price-wise, the price is almost the same in my country for AT700 and AT800.
Sorry for the duplicated post.
jkong 09-15-2004, 08:31 PM Price update,
ArmorPower 880 APAC is going for SGD$99 with string (Proace Ti-65 I think) and bag .
Cheers!

so far the only racket that i feel that is similar to AT800DE is the mp100... only difference being the mp100 is stiffer...
colingsk 09-16-2004, 10:47 PM Hi guys
I got myself both the APACS Amorpower 700 & 880OF. What I can say is that both are different. Both are head heavy but balance overall. The 880OF is heavier though at the head. Both shaft are equivalent ie stiff.
One more thing is that APAC has this Powerconcept 1080 which is exactly the same as 880OF/DE in everyway including colour and weight distribution but cheaper!!
Been playing using both the last 1 month and I'm very happy with the performance. According to James Wong (APACS sponsor) the APACS rackets are manufactured in Taiwan and is actually the same mould and material used for the real Yonex thingy. So its actually the real thing really!!
Now, I take that information with a pinch of salt as I've never used both the real Yonex Amortec 700 & 800 respectively as comparison. It would be nice if anyone here has tried both real and copy though.
Cheers

twobeer 09-17-2004, 02:12 PM My experience is that the racket that feels most like AT800DE is probably MP99 (AT800DE and AT700 are very different imop). Haven't played with any other racket or clone that has felt "identical" in balancepoint, flex etc.
However in the control, power area I think there are many less expensive rackets that could be valid alternatives to AT800DE (which is really a great racket, and well worth the money imop)..
I would suggest looking at:
* Prince More+87
* Carlton Airblade Powerblade rasmussen (the new isometric model)
* Oliver Centrik K7 (packs a lot of really nice techonlogy!!)
* SOTX Woven 10
* Trump Entice TG-01 Optigroove (maybe a little bit to AT700 like?!?!)
* Forza Titanium 12 CF
Cheers,
Twobeer
