As far as I know, those MPs below 55 are all made in Taiwan ie the mass-production for the more budget conscious. These lower end racquets may or may not have laser-etched serial numbers. They are positively original from Yonex nonetheless.
Quickest way to find out is by looking at the shaft, it should say "Developed by Yonex, Japan", not "Made in Japan". Harder way is by comparing the catalogues or at Yonex's own website.

not exactly true. even mp22, 24, 27 and 33 have the serials etched. if his sister bought it in the philippines, it might be fake. there are lots of it here.

Yonex engraves their serial numbers regardless of whether it's the high end or the low end models. If yours is painted on, then it's definitely fake but to be sure, take a look at the grommets. If the end of the gromments are cut and not angled, then the racquet is fake.
FEND.

Agree with Winex West Can. Even my Mp-23 has the laser etched. So yea, your mp 24 "MIGHT" be a fake. Not certain.

Try to use your nails to scratch the serials a little bit and see if you can feel it :)
Somtimes, it's just not easy to feel if it's engraved or not (if the engravement isn't deep)

it should be etched in.
but I guess you souldn't need to worry too much...I mean those racquets are on the lower end...most companies like to fake the higher end ones...but you never know. there was that guy on Ebay selling some MP300. lol.

Just wondering why they want to fake a such lower end model. I mean, it takes the same amount of effort to fake a MP99 compare to a MP24 (just put on different paint), however, the fake MP99 can easily generate more profit.

I currently use an MP 24, and the serial number is engraved in. Check out first thread (Yonex Serial number one). post it in there and someone will know if its a fake one

Well, as long as there is a room for profit, I don't see why fake-makers wouldn't enter the market for it :)
If the cost of manufacturing a fake MP-24 is $20, and the market selling price for a real one is $60. So, even if the fake ones sell at $50 USD, they can still make a huge profit out of it, especially they don't have to pay for any AD. cost.

I understand. However, still, make a fake MP99 is also $20, but the final selling price could be $160 instead of $60. So, you know, heheheheheheh...
Same thing applied, as many ppl tried to fake US$20 paper bill, but almost no one try to bother with US$1 paper bill...

well, you gotta think about there are more people who buy cheaper rackets than expensive rackets. I think MP2X sales is more than MP77-100 sales, so, when there is a huge qantity, there is a huge profit.
Plus, people who buy lower end rackets are most likely newbies, and most newbies don't even know how to spot fakes at all -> less trouble in selling.

Am not sure but I think I saw on the catalog- MP 24 is made in Japan ....
not sure about it being low-end - its an average racket - but I think this racket is considered mid -range
