View Full Version : Are you a sponsored player?
Wukong 08-01-2004, 09:09 AM How many members here are sponsored?
If you are, what brands are you wearing and using?
How many rackets, shirts, shorts, socks, shoes, bags etc are you given a year?
What level are you playing?
I think 99% sponsor ourselves to play
You should try a search on this topic and also "terms", they have been discussed before quite a few times.

I already have.
And I cannot find any thread discussing on which members here are sponsored by racket companies.
Can you help to point me to the threads?
I have tried many searches but i cannot find the threads you mentioned.
As for the definition of the word "sponsored" in my post, I am very sure that you know what I meant.
I am referring to players who are given rackets, shirts, shorts, bags, socks, and shoes by racket or apparel companies for free.
These players are generally competitive players who play for their clubs or countries.
These players do not have to pay a single cent to use the equipment or wear the apparels given to them by these companies.
seven 08-02-2004, 05:15 AM I used to be sponsored when I was younger : one year by Forza, three years by Victor. (and also one year by Yonex when I was very young, in U13)
The sponsorship was only about equipment, no cash! ;)
(... and it was a team sponsorship, not an individual one)
Feng_MP-100 08-02-2004, 05:26 AM (... and it was a team sponsorship, not an individual one).............................................. ....... -_-" How was it different from individual one? Didn't you still get free equipments??? (ex. 10 people on team, 100 racquets given, 10 racquet/person, right?)
Wukong 08-02-2004, 06:16 AM (... and it was a team sponsorship, not an individual one)
Yes I understand.
The Singapore national youth players are also under team sponsorship.
ie if a player withdraws or be dropped from the team, he/she will also lose the sponsorship.
How many rackets did you get? Do the companies sponsor your strings and stringing as well?
seven 08-02-2004, 06:27 AM Well, a team sponsorship means the negociation and deal is made for the whole team, and everyone in the team gets the same contract for being part of the team.
An individual sponsorship means you negociate directly for yourself with the sponsor, and it is more difficult to get... (you need to be famous enough as an individual)
If I had had to negociate for myself, I would probably never have been sponsored! :p
(I was sponsored because I was part of the youth "high-level" training centre of my region, the negociation was done by the managers of the centre)
seven 08-02-2004, 06:35 AM The equipment we had included (each year) :
several pairs of shoes,
one or two tracksuits,
quite a few shorts,
quite a lot of T-shirts,
rackets (an "unlimited" number of them could be bought for half their price)
We had secondary sponsors for strings and grips (BDE), and for specific inner soles (Sorbothane).
... hmm I think that's all if I remember correctly!! :D
In return, we had the obligation to wear this equipment in any competition, demonstration or any other public event we took part in.
seven 08-02-2004, 09:04 AM I forgot in my list : socks and racket bags :) (I think that's it this time)
If you go to the main page, the first forum is for the FAQ.
The next forum down is the PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS FAN CLUB forum
The two players are Jonas Rassmusen and Thomas Laybourn
I think they might just be sponsored

I think we don't all put the same meaning behind the word "sponsor"...
In French this word means a sportsman advertising for a given brand in exchange of equipment and/or money.
I've realized looking at a dictionnary that it can have a more general meaning in English which explains Dill's first answer... (and Fend's current answer?)
Anyway, I understand the question as being about the first meaning (sponsorship with a brand).
Syaoran_Style 08-03-2004, 07:19 AM LoL me too i understand it like Seven :p
But If you want to be sponsered, it means that you are preparing to be a professional?? no??
