new style and new BC !

you guys probably noticed it by now, i just released a new BadmintonCentral.com!

you can find it as usual, here:

http://www.badmintoncentral.com/

the new BC has a much better managed contents, it has a nice management system that allows me to add and remove articles and other contents with ease. and yes, that means it will be updated more often. it is also more integrated with the forum. both style-wise and navigation-wise.

there is now a content column in BF. it allows jumping to the different sections easily.

the logo is still missing. i will fill that in when i figure that out...

let me know if you have any problem. i have tested the new style in both Firefox and IE. and except for one minor strangeness in IE, i think they are pretty much the same...

if you are using IE, you may notice there is a 2 pixel gap between the top images and the menu. that's not intentional ! the gap is not supposed to be there but i spent ages trying to figure out what's going on. Firefox doesn't have that gap nor does it appear in the BC side either. only on IE+BF. drove me crazy.

if there are some HTML+CSS experts out there who can figure that out for me, i will be very grateful!

Neil, i am keeping on style around, so there is no way to go back.

another change that i made is that i am now favoring using www.badmintoncentral.com (http://www.badmintoncentral.com) as the domain for all sections, so instead of BC.com, BF.com, BR.com & BA.com, we will have just BC.com with each one of the section as a sub directory. this is more consistent and makes managing them much easier and create less confusion.

the previous domains will always work, however.

the new location under BC.com for all the sections are:

/badminton-central
/forums
/reviews
/gallery

It's just the margin that now runs all the way down the left side of the screen that I don't like.
Maybe there's a way around that at my end that I don't know ?

The layout looks pro all right, but I really hate the side bar. It looks out of place, IMHO. Perhaps you can put the bar outside the main container, and use some CSS to allow it to stay there while we scroll. This can only be observed with browsers that have proper support for CSS1 but it'll be a treat to us Firefox, Netscape, Opera users though. Another reason why I think it looked out of place is because of the icons - the theme of the two things are not consistent, thus I find it 'alien'.

But good job on the consistency of look for both BC and BF though. I often find that the old look quite disorienting.

Next stop : Choose your theme - "Xia Xuanze", "Denmark Boleh", "Kwun Babe".

everything looks great! at first, the sidebar did bother me a little bit in which there was nothing below it..but after giving some time to get used to it, it doesn't bother me anymore.

glad to see that most of you liked it! took me a few iterations (quite a few actually :o ) before i came up with this software as well as the look.

i too find that there should be more stuff below the side menu in the forum.

the review section is also updated with the new look. some work still left to be done and also the gallery need to be fixed up.

i won't fix them right away though as i need a break from tweaking html and CSS and hacking scripts. sigh.

Hey nice job Kwun, just two requests for after your break. Could you either make the side bar a "frame" so that we can just to other sections no matter how far down the thread we are instead of pushing "Home", this will also solve the whitespace problem when in the middle of the thread and you have two inches of whitespace to the left of the text which looks like a waste of screen real estate, or give us an option to switch off the sidebar, since it uses up screen real estate.

hehe. you read my mind. :)

yes. the plan is actually to merge the globe and the current one that you see into one. but as you can see, they are both kinda light blue in color and don't go too well together. i need to make some changes so they will match in color. so please bear with me for now.

and yes, the globe is there to reflect the fact that BC is very much a place for badminton fan from all over the world!
