Prettiest?! not sure... she's certainly really good at badminton though. Terrific doubles player, she's deadly at net shots... i'm kinda jealous :p

Liklihood of it being on TV in the UK is very slim, sky on the other hand........

Best thing to do is go to her site and see if she has updated where she will be playing and take it from there.

Definitely, what a comeback, with some quality Badminton. What made it more exciting to me was that I was watching on a dodgy internet connection, which kept breaking up, and added to my excitement.


Zhang Juns' Althleticism was amazing in the Olympics XD final though. He was jumping all over the place to get his smashes in. Had Emms defence not been the best I have seen her play they they would have won much easier. Was a great game too.

emms??? errrrr..... I don't think she can play mixed, no net play, no defence, can't setup for her partner, her partner plays with her probably because he just wants to look at her butt all the time, there are a lot of players that are hotter than her.

I'd say he hasn't seen the final yet, I used to think the same thing, couldn't play, didn't have the talent to play at the top level, but easy on the eyes, and during the first set I was pretty comfortable in my assessment (she sucked). But damn has she improved, she's got a lot more talent than I thought, if she could work on her mental game and her consistency, she could be a force in mixed doubles.

i don't make my conclusion by just watching one game, like many of you out there, i have watched her other games too including the olympics... and i still stick by my conclusion...

dont really agree. as an individual she's not really anywhere near the best. but for mixed she compliments her partner very well in many situations where most wouldnt be able to do quite the same. and her chemistry with nate is trully wonderful! poetry in motion

Do you realize how ridiculous your statement is? OK you can say you don't like her style, but you certainly can't say she sucks! (or this will completely discredit your point)

And... sorry but YES you can judge a player's ability on just ONE match... when this given match is an OLYMPIC FINAL!!
This is the best moment to judge a player's ability of performing when it really counts! (for example Taufik Hidayat, even after a very poor season, has proven more than he ever has in these Olympics...)

suppose to?? there is no set rules in badminton. neither in job function nor winning strategies. you could well be still stuck on XD in the nineties for all i can tell but the game has changed/evolved alot since then.

i see robertson making good use as emms to be the bread winner in many occasions. a point is a point no matter which partner sets it up or makes it. perhaps this lack of stereotype in their approach to the game is why they almost took the gold and made the match so much more interesting to watch. ZJun and GLing was so much more predictable in that match.

I dont think we are judging her on one match anyway. She has been a top level player ranked in the top 10 for a number of years, and much of the past year in the top 5 (touching No.1 at one point). For all the vagaries of the ranking system, and the method of collecting points, in order to reach No. 1 you need to play well, in the best tournaments consistently for long periods. I cant see how this means that you suck as a player.

For all her technical difficulties she appears to have (Mainly small, minor errors), she remains a very effective mixed player, and as others have mentioned has very good communication with her partner.

On a different, but I think slightly connected subject I think if yo saw boonsak polsana play in you local centre technique wise you may think he was just a normal player, in my opinion he does lots ofquite major things wrong. He is hoever very effective with his game, as proved by reaching the semifinal stage, eventually finishing fourth. I wouldnt say that he sucked either.

I think you (bad_bser) need to have a little more respect and thought into the way you criticise people aswell, saying someone sucks may be construed as offensive.

The first I saw her play was in an AE s/f with Simon Archer. After changing partners to Nathan Robertson, I felt she had very rigid movements.

In recent times, she seems to have done very well. Seems better relaxed and that seems to help her movement. The Olympic final was some match. I didn't get to see the first game but all credit to Emms on the remainder of the match. Never seen her play so well and so sharply around the forecourt. The chinese didn't get to push her to the rearcourt so much but she looked pretty capable when it did happen.

In another UK forum Gail has come in for a bit of criticism but since the olympic final it has oddly stopped.

My opinion of Gail is that she is a bubbly and supremely confident athlete who plays a difficult game in the way of mixed, both she and Nathan complimented each others styles perfectly in the Olympics, in other competitions this has not always been the case.

I find Gail's style of playing unlike many of the other females who play mixed in that she rarely goes to the back court and seems more static at the front and makes a lot of silly mistakes at times when you really would not expect them. Also it may be mentioned that she is quite small for a professional player and this counts against her at times and may be one of the reasons she seems quite rigid in her movement(s) but somehow she always battles through her games and no one can ask any more.

In this instance Gail (and Nathan) have done UK badminton proud and I'm glad to say they have rejuvinated interest in a declining game in the UK, the amount of people in my work who have phoned me since the final saying "I saw badminton on the telly", "do you play that?", "I never knew it was that fast a game" etc.

In the Olympics Gail played out of her skin and exceeded any expectations of any supporters of both UK and European badminton, and as a result she and Nathan are now ranked number 3, they have been number 1 in the world in the not too distant past.

So that's what it is to suck?

In that case, I like many others wish I sucked!
