Hello there,
I have not being playing badminton for number of years due to my regional work. Now I am back and have start playing with my old Carlton and ProKennex racket. ;)
Currently there are hundred of rackets from different brands in the market. It really confused me when I start to source around for my new racket.
I am searching for a even balance racket for both single and double game. Since most of you are on track with the latest badminton racket trends and models please give your valuable advise and suggestion.
Many thanks for your advise.:)
what's your skill level and budget?

Sounds like you are about my vintage ... with carlton and pro-kennex being rather popular back then
There has been a lot of talk about the Yonex series of rackets, and the usual Yonex MP99,MP100,Ti-10, AT700, AT800 Df always come up.
If you want a balanced racket - not too head heavy - I think the MP99 is great..
Don't forget the other brands too- Ashaway makes pretty good rackets as well..
I have also recently tried SOTX rackets and have found them to be very good and balanced as well...
Ultimately- there is some subjective preference element as well - and my advice will be to try out some rackets before buying .....

hmmm...
base on your limited info, i think your best bet will be:
for isometric head: mp99
for oval head: cab 30ms
these racquets have been recommended by many users in this forum for its even balance characteristic and for singles or doubles purpose.
but it'll be best to try them out if u can as different ppl may have different opinion.

what's your skill level and budget?
Hi Kwun,
I was school team player when I am in college and university. After my school, I am very activity in the club and has taken part and won in number of competitions. I used to play in Single during school time and start enjoying double when I am in the club.
After have not been playing for more than 8 years due to a lot of travelling in my job. I start to pick up badminton in the past three months. I believe my skill should be in intermediate and need to be polish to reach the next higher level.
Since I am working, budget is not too tight.

I have not used the high end models of MP series such as MP100, MP99, MP88, MP77 but some of my friends told me that they are head heavy balance. Only MP 66 and below are even balance. I believe AT800, AT700 are head heavy balance as well.

Read the reviews in the review section. As far as I know, mp 77 is head heavy since I tried it, I can't vouch for the rest except for the Cab30MS which I own.

Please, can you define what is an even balanced racquet? Is it the sum of balance point (static or 1st and 2nd moment), racquet length, racquet shaft length, handle length, and racquet mass (with and without handle grip).
In badminton racquets, head-heavy, even balanced and head-light are relative descriptions of one when compared with the other. It is not, like in tennis racquets, a measure from a racquet's mid-point. Using the tennis racquet balance point, which is the mid-point, to gauge the balance of badminton racquets is meaningless, because it would put all badminton racquets in the extreme head-light category. All badminton racquets fall far short of the 335mm mid-point, and that includes the heaviest head-heavy racquet.

Hi,
I am looking for a balanced/slightly head heavy racket as well however my budget is a little more limited (around £60). I am currently using an Isometric 77VF. Has anyone tried the AT300 or the MP30?
Cheers.

Hi friends,
During my practice last night, I have tried a APACS racket Power Concept 1150 from my friend. It also printed Ti just beside the 1150. This racket is even balance with Slim Shaft.
I learnt from my friend that APACS Power Concept is the clone of Yonex Muscle Power series. Do anybody know what is the Yonex model that Power Concept 1150 is equivalent to?
thank

the at300's a very robust racket..not as stiff as mp99..but it's very stable and responsive..i've a 4ug5..it's not as head heavy as at700 but it's comparable to a 3u ti10..power wise not as powerful as the ti 10 as the at300's more flexible :( ..i've tried a 3u ver before..better hand feeling..but noticably heavier, even for a blank..control wise i can't comment cause i use the 300 to whaaaack :D ,not many net shots..but shuttle placement on drives and smashes r pretty accurate..at300's head is more stable than the at700(i've realised that the box shape of the at300 is sharper, ie sharper corners, not slightly rounded like at700)..feel wise it's solid w BG85 at 25 lbs, might vibrate a little too much but it's all personal preference :p i'd say it's a good racket for intermmediate-advanced players :D

Thank Adrian for the advise.
Since AT300 is a new racket and none of my friend have it so no chance to try.
But from some review on the web site, AT300 is consider as Heavy Head Balance. Anybody can advice on this?
By the way, how much does AT300 cost in Singapore?
Hope that there is more suggestion from the forums.
cheers

for comparison's sake:
balance pt of my ATs(all of the same config: no original grip, replaced w pacific supreme grip + softygrip overgrip. strings(bg85 @ 25lbs)) :D :
at300 4ug5 - 290mm
at700 4ug5 - 297mm
at700 3ug5 - 298mm
some of my so called "balanced rackets" :D :
mp99 2ug4 - 291mm (original grip + pacific le grip overgrip and bg66)
cab30ms 2ug4 - 291mm (original grip + softygrip and bg85@24lbs)
one thing tho..although at300 has a balance pt similar to mp99 and cab30ms, the hand feeling is however one of a head-heavy racket..i'd suggest u go to brasbrasah cplx to take a look at the rackets, get a feel for urself, find the one w the best hand feeling n come back to the forum to ask abt the performance of the racket..
hmm..one question..r u looking for a head-balanced racket(balanced weight?) or a racket which can perform equally well for both dbls n singles(all round, balanced performance?) :o imo they're quite diff..
at300 sells for below S$190 in queensway..

hmm..ATs are more for attacking play..the control might need some getting used to cause ATs r headheavy..
in that case i'd suggest mp99 or CAB20sp..mp99's around $220 n CAB20 shld cost below $90..can't comment on the CAB30ms cause i've yet to play w mine :p what do e others tink?

I suggest the Cab30 MS. Reasons? MP99 is a really good even balanced racquet. However it's pricey. Since you're used to Oval racquets anyway, the Cab30 MS is much cheaper, and most people say they can easily interchange between the two. It should be alright for singles and doubles. It's a great racquet, everyone who has bought one gave pretty good feedback. It's a value racquet with very good performance. SSM used it and got to the finals in Athens. This is what I suggest.

well if your budget is unrestricted and your skill level is good, I would recommend the following:
-Armortec 800 DE (This a good even balanced racket that is slightly, just slightly head heavy. I think this racket can be suitable for singles too, but thats just my opinion.)
-Armortec 500 (This is another good even balanced all around racket. somewhat similar to AT 800 DE, but the cost is less)
-As for the Cab30MS, I cannot really comment on this racket, but my friends had recommended this racket to me before.
*have a nice day*:D
