I wonder what he will get as an olympic gold medalist? Didnt alan get a new house and some money before? Not as good as HK though, 1M USD would be nice.

Taufik will get Rp.1B from Indonesian Sport Comittee, which is equal to ~US$120,000, and usually he would get extra bonus such as houses, money, etc. from the club, sponsors, etc. Sony will get Rp.250M, and Flandy/Eng will get Rp.375M, their coaches will get some money too ... not much though compared to other countries would give for their Olympics medalists ...

Taufik mentioned that he is thinking about retirement and will probably not going to appear on next olympics. (He said this before he got the Gold Metal)
He thinks many talented young players are rising, and he is very unsure if he can still play that well against them.
When Gade heard this, Gade's reaction was "Taufik is too young to retire:eek: !"
Interesting

YES! Taufik won the gold medal.
He played so well, very patient at rally and then just waiting the right moment for deadly shots. That's why he got many points most from his patience. His mental in this final is really good! his usual nervous and temper didn't come out. He deserved to get the gold.
I hope he will behave better and better after this glorius achievement of him instead of being selfish.

Gade is right. Taufik is too young to retire actually even at 2008 Olympic Taufik still 27 years old, maybe that time he's afraid he doesn't like to compete again.
I saw it on TV 2 as well!
It was an accident actually, because I was at my grandmother's birthday dinner and cursing Mediacorp for not telecasting the match live when someone switched channels on the TV inside the dinner room and I saw.... TAUFIK VS SHON. So I went, "STOP! STOP! I WANNA WATCH!!!!" and haha, I got my way... ;)
The reception was kind of fuzzy and everyone was talking too loudly for me to really hear anything but from what I saw, Taufik did play a very good game, displaying an unusual amt of patience and mental strength like somebody else mentioned.
I thought Shon was going all out for the big comeback assault when he went from 3-10 to 7-10 but it didn't happen. My uncle was saying, "Aiyah, I tell you, Taufik will win one lah. If I had one million dollars, I would put all my money on him..."
So for once, I'm glad my prediction didn't come true. This win made my day, which had become particularly gloomy after Li Jiawei's loss in the semis - not because of the defeat but due to the mindless, insensible attitude of some Singaporeans, of which I am too ashamed to publicize.
Well done, Taufik. Everybody deserves a 2nd chance and I think he has very well earned his.
Well done too, Shon. Like you said, "You made history".

I saw difference Taufik in this final.
He could control his emotion, very cold and patient.
Like he wants to say to us : "I am still the best".
Now he has to prove his quality and win as many big tournaments as he can.
Maybe his win is a "upper cut" to Icuk who want to sack his coach Mulyo and forbid him to stay in his own house.

Taufik HIDAYAT (INA) – Gold medallist
On the match:
"In the beginning, I was very nervous but I knew that I would win. It was a big responsibility because I was the only one who had the opportunity to win a gold medal for Indonesia."
On his performance in the Olympics:
"In other tournaments I have participated in, my performance was not that good. I suppose the main reason was that this is the Olympics, the place. It is the highest goal for an athlete."
On his future plans:
"I just hope I can get some rest and take a couple of weeks off to go on holidays."
SHON Seung Mo (KOR) – Silver medallist
On his performance:
"I made a very good start, but then my attacking moves were forcefully defended and I made a lot of mistakes."
On his future plans:
"I hope I'll have the chance to perform better in the future."
KUNCORO Soni Dwi (INA) – Bronze medallist (pictured left)
On his bronze medal win:
"The semifinal was a very hard match which SHON deserved to win. But today I woke up and realised that this was one of the very few chances for Indonesia to win two medals in the Olympics and I had to win."
That was the most one-sided Finals match I've ever seen. Taufik simply out played Shon in every aspect.
We're lucky here as it was shown stright after Women's Doubles Final - and boy was that a great match to watch too! Chinese women are just too dominant....
Was Shon using the Cab30MS?

Was Shon using the Cab30MS?
yes, i think so.
I'm surprised how shon's performance had dropped in the final.
He had beaten some very good players to get to the final but then he sputtered :o

Taufik did say that nothing can separate him and his coach anymore ... it will be interesting how Icuk would react, is Icuk in Athens too, together with Rudy Hartono, etc.?

Yes, it was an excellent performance. Reminded me of when he played Peter Gade in 1999 AE semifinal.

it was so emotional when I saw Taufik broke down and burst in tears after the final, before then he looked so cool and calm. He mustve been very very focus and his mental toughness at the final is way way on top of the chinese

After years of being tipped to be one of the greatest player of all time, Taufik finally succeded to win a major title. No doubt he has great ability or potential but i wonder why it took him so long to finally deliver.

Starting the career at very young age (16), then soaring quickly but also dropped quickly just when people put the future hope on them. I think it's just a matter of mental problem. They're still unstable teenagers that time. Mia had relationships problem to his father if I didn't wrong?
But for Taufik, he also had coaching problem :)
Sad. I hope both of them will arise soon after this olympic.
he really loves Mulyo. He says from now on he hopes nothing could separate Mulyo from him anymore. Whuwhwu loyal master and discipline.....

Might be but most of the chinese players started young and they manage to take care of themselves. People like Sun Jun, Xia, Lin dan and etc... they all started winning at a young age.
And they never had personal coaches :)

C'mon I know that. :D
Most Indonesian players can take care of themselves like Chinese. It's only Taufik who couldn't.

i know this is an english forum.
but it seems it is a direct translation from malay/indon language.
i transalated it into malay and it made perfect sense (in malay).
i dont think english is his mother tounge and i am assuming this is part of his effort to improve his english. best not to bash his confidence now at this crucial stage.
however i also do hope he does and succeeds in improving his english :)
